Ps4 Software sales Reach 401.1 million

has anyone made a lame "no games" joke yet?

anyway, I've added my fair share. I'm not exactly sure how many games I have, but it's probably around 20?

And I'm going to be buying a LOT more this year. 2017 is looking crazy for PS4.

Also, yeah, I think PS4 software can hit a billion.

It's just mocking that in every sales thread for a while Xbox fans would bring some kind of various reasons why Scorpio will sell tens of millions and save the brand, win the war, etc ... It's kind of a funny jab but got overused alot. Also exagerated truth wise because they weren't all delusional or fanboys some were just discussing Scorpio possibly

man, don't throw Xbox fans under the bus for statham's shenanigans.

Yeah no like I said it was overused and overattibuted to everyone... It was kinda funny in the right setting but spread to derail any Scorpio topic . It wasn't just attributed to Statham after a bit though.

I wouldn't read too much into this. Those numbers are so good that the PS+ games surely account for half of dat 400M. Sony just throwing out big numbers to make their console look relevant. All these data are meaningless without dem MAU's, smh.
And Scorpioooooooooooo....

/S

Nicely done Sony and well deserved imo.

I think some people still don't understand how good the digital sales have been. Especially up here in Canada with no tax. Those sales move a lot of units. Also would not be surprised people that have gone fully digital have two to three times the catalog compared to physical only people. The sales especially on some of the indie games become just inpulse buys.

$5 sales help. Hahaha.

but GG Sony. The PS4 is a beast and one for the history books. They really did everything right from sticking it to MS and delivering a robust console with great games.

October through March (well, first week of April) will go down as a six month release slate on par with some of the best PS2 phases. A lot of that credit goes to third parties, and also Japanese devs joining the party with several kegs. And May through August of last year was hardly anything to sneeze at.

Hopefully devs and publishers don't take too much of a hit with everything appearing on the market. There are an effing lot of high quality games coming out very soon.

The PSN sales the last couple years have been amazing and a big contributor for why I'm buying a lot more games than PS3 days.
Diablo 3 was £11 the other day, couldn't resist.

As others have said, 2017 will push this number all the way up with all the crazy number of exclusives and multiplatform stuff coming through.

Personal theory:

I think we must look beyond the core games crowd to see the source of the inflated attach rate. We have more popular annualized series than ever, and gaming is more widespread in general.

So you factor in:

- The annual online shooter (Cod and/or Battlefield, etc.)

- Compulsory annual sports game (Fifa, Madden, NBA, NHL, MLB based on preference and geographic location)

Sony being in the lead means they can secure much of the above, which would surely help push the attach rate up.

Great news all around, and well deserved by Sony.

Congrats. Sony plays it safe but clearly there is a market for that lol.

It’s a hit-driven business. We look at our financial results of the titles, and probably three or four out of ten make money, and maybe one or two make all the money to cover the cost of the others titles. So we have to be able to maintain that hit ratio at a certain level to be able to continue in the business, so we always try to find out and support and help grow the talent. That’s the most important work that I believe myself and some of my management team at worldwide studios are doing.

Playing it safe?

I'd argue that they take the most actual software risks amongst the platformholders. Funding a big console sequel for Gravity Rush, keeping The Last Guardian in development and allowing one of their premiere studios to spend 5 years on a genre they've never tackled before isn't exactly playing it safe, I dunno.

24 of those are mine. All physical except for The Witness and Octodad which have no retail version in EU.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

I also have the PS4 versions of Journey and Flower but I'm not counting those as I was given them for free due to having bought the original PS3 versions.

Is just me or anybody else haven't bought a single or at least bought way less used games this gen compared to previous one? There's so many discounts across PSN and online retailers that I don't even need to look at Gamestops/Cex used game section.

Hahaha that's rich. Ps2 and ps3 were a bitch to develop for. And your last line kinda sound like that ps4 is only successful because of their competitor's fuckups

Nah. They were riding a wave from PS3, which they fixed themselves. Sony deserves credit for that.

I have no idea about the PS2, but the PS3 was definitely worse to develop for, but they went back to their roots with PS4.

PS1 was very notable for very robust developer tools.

And of course the fuckups help. Doesn't take away from Sony from taking advantage, nor was it the sole reason for their success.

I just bought Rogue Galaxy and Sleeping Dogs for like $10. Sleeping Dogs was $5!
I've actually bought more games digital than I did last generation with the exception of a few collectors editions.

I still think the attatch rate is too low. If I was an executive I'd devise a plan to make a 10 games epr console attatch rate a reality.
