I don't think there will be anything wrong with the servers on launch day but it doesn't hurt to download as a backup.
FAT32What filesystem does the PS4 support?
Does it support NTFS?

I don't get why people are so worried about the update crashing the servers, there's only going be 1-2 mill? on day one vs. however many million on ps3 that update regularly.
Wait wait wait...Downloading now!
Dat 1 minute download.
And yeah, just in case PSN is slow at launch I have it ready.
Yeah it was the same for me, I hope this is a good sign, although PSN has always been fast for me.
where is this sandwich joke coming from?
where is this sandwich joke coming from?
anyone else having trouble downloading this? Im using my phone and it just shows a bunch of garbled text.
That would be great! At least then I could stop endlessly looking at every bit of ps4 info and just get playing already! That is the download transforming your phone into a PS4...congrats!
They use a similar URL syntax for all their system updates. The premature file they posted last week gave me enough to piece it together.

So your a pirate? Arhgggg mateeee!
What's in this update?
Troll or have you never experienced the launch of an online service?
It finally fixes the clock. What's in this update?
Hopefully that includes install time, because that is incredibly slow. That comes out to a little over 1MB/s.It probably means little, but for reference:
When PS3 launched, Kaz HIrai said something along the lines of "go make a sandwich" when users complained about loading times.
It's considered bad form to automatically accuse people of piracy if they want to hack their console. Homebrew can be very useful as well as remove limitations forced by official firmware.
What I wanna know is if we have to make three folders, one in the other and that one in yet another folder, and stick the firmware update file in the deepest layer like for PS3 and PSP.
The recovery file just failed for me. Maybe these aren't ready to go yet.
Failed? You have a PS4 already?
Can't use it until the 29th, but downloaded anyway.
Speaking of downloads though, the updated PlayStation app is now available to download on Google Play.
Whoops, I meant the download failed. Sorry.
My own assumption is that the recovery file is the full (1.5) OS and the system update file is just the updated files. Sony hasn't detailed how the software update process/HDD installation will work, but considering the PS3 HDD installation procedure and the two PS4 software files on the servers I believe the recovery file will be required for HDD installations. Will we need the recovery file if nothing is on the hard drive? I plan on swapping out my drive before I even boot up the console and I want to know if I need that as well and how to go about using it.
It'll probably be similar to the PS4, PS4 -> UPDATE -> PS4UPDATE.PUP. The system should be able to detect if the file is a full recovery file or just the system update. I'll make sure to update the OP with the procedure once Sony releases it.Do we know what we should name them yet? The Recovery File has the same filename as the system update so I need to change them.
What's in this update?
The blog post on the update was a posted a while back.Where the official article from sony about this?
I cant find anything.
In what region? Not finding anything in the US.
They have an embargo, it doesn't end till tomorrow morning (9 AM EST).I'm surprised no one in the media has commented since updating their firmware.
