Except games support vrr on the series x through hdmi 2.1This is due to hdmi hasn't confirmed hdmi 2.1 cables. Cables should be certified within weeks
Nope, being hdmi 2.1 doesn't mean it will have the features.Doesnt HDMI 2.1 do this regardless?
You don’t need it to run over 60. If it runs at 40+ it eliminates frame drops and tearing. As if many games will run over 60 fps right
4k 120hz would not be possible if they used itI hope they didn't use those broken Panasonic chipsets all the AVR's did and are hoping to silently cancel the feature to avoid a catastrophic level recall.

There are no specific version cables.
HDMI at say a 3m length of decent quality will carry anything over it.
but it does mean that the ps5 not support vrr isn't due to the lack of cables.Doesn't change the fact that there are zero certified hdmi 2.1 cables
They already confirmed VRR support
Sony said the PS5 will offer "support of 4K 120Hz TVs, 8K TVs, VRR (specified by HDMI ver.2.1),"
Probs just software doesn't use it yet

Do Sony TVs not have VRR?
Will VRR work on my Q70R on regular HDMI? I don’t have 2.1.

Yeah I could have worded it better, by eliminate I meant made it virtually unnoticeable to the viewer. It doesn't eliminate frame drops, they still happen, it just smooths it out and prevents tearing
I was under the impression that since I don’t have 2.1 then I can’t do 4k 120. Which I don’t really care about since it won’t be a feature in many games. I thought I could do VRR as long as it’s not 4k 120.Depends if PS5 supports Freesync. Freesync and VRR in practice is the same, but I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to support just the HDMI standard.

I must be very out of the loop... thought that by vrr he meant the fan noise.
VRR is a gimmick (on consoles).
Devs HAVE to optimize for stable 30/60fps because all TVs support that, but tiny minority supports VRR or 120Hz
So, stable static modes are must, and VRR maybe for some unlocked mode
They just cant be like "yeah let the game run 25 - 150fps and vrr handles it!" When all dont have it.
And it will be patched in most likely.
How many even have vrr tv, 0.1%? Many even use 1080p tvs
