PS5 Pro Reveal Thread - Not Flops, TFlops

Arguably less of a presentable difference than the one between PS4 and PS4 Pro. Can't see this doing nearly as well this time around with no system showcase sellers.

Right now all my hopes are on GameStop trade-in program

800 € with no drive

Maybe GS will bundle it to for a discount. They are fucked selling an all-digital console anyway, might as well bundle the BD drive

They will show the bloodborne remaster at the end of the month, PS5 Pro exclusive, Dual Sense Edge V2 Exclusive, then all you naysayers will be BEGGING to get one (and complaining about the lack of available pre-order units).

(none of this will happen... and EviLore is right, different strokes for different folks)
Bloodborne remaster is coming to PC Pro. Havent you heard?

I’m a pretty basic guy. If they squared the console off and gave me classic PS grey color it would be a no brainer. This thing is so ugly.

I'll take no chances with you. Enjoy your console warring.
It was an honest question in response to your fake outrage, but whatever.

You avoiding the actual question says enough.

Do you really think the CPU would be the bottleneck not allowing the game to reach 60? Name one game not potato-coded where that is the case.
ff16, ff7rebirth, space marine2, wukong, hogwarts legacy, obviously incoming gta6 if it looks even 50% as good as the reveal trailer, the matrix awakens demo, that first UE5 ps5 demo that only ran in 30fps with that flying section at the end, im sure there are more but thats just from the top of my head.

Mckmaster uses MasterCard to buy Slave drives
If built from the ground up sure, but if you upgrade a current PC (depending on your specs, I don't think it would cost much more.
Plus PC comes with a ton of other benefits like mods, emulation, much bigger library, bigger sales for games, etc

Most people don't have gaming PCs.

Companies are increasingly realizing that to maximize revenue they should release a mainstream targeted product that regular people can barely afford, plus a lavishly priced but properly differentiated premium product for STEM nerds and Finance bros, where margins are high and it becomes a status symbol. Seeing it everywhere, from smartphones to concert tickets. The high earning segment can afford $1000+ for every transaction and will treat it like a normal purchase.

The times when it was profitable to release products that were good, durable and attractively priced are long gone, even more so in rapidly evolving industries
which gaming devices are part of.

The idea of constant growth coupled with demographic decline over the last few decades has called for a change in the way customers are treated and these are the effects of the model we have been forced to get used to. What we once called an "average" product is now labeled (and priced) "premium". A clever way of exploiting the middle-class mentality, but also the result of the natural adaptive evolution of markets.

Although with such margins one might wonder whether this trend is still a reflection of generational changes or more often a rip-off.

The new Warhammer game?
Yet that game seem to run much better on the XSX with nearly identical CPU. Hence why I believe much in that game can be further optimised. After some optimization that game can be 60 on the Pro and I have a hard time believing GTA6 is going to be heavier than that on the CPU.

FF16 and 7 is CPU bottlenecked, really? Wukong is potato-coded. Matrix demo seemed to be GPU bottlenecked or would you say it would run the same fps with a 4090?

Having a good PC makes it easier to pass on this.

And before someone states that PC is all digital: Yes, it is. But even on Steam alone there are different sites that offer games for better prices. PSN does not and that is my issue.
I have a decent PC, but I can still think of plenty of reasons I still would want one. I also don't play PC games on a 4K TV, nor do I currently have a 4K Blu-ray player.

For reference:

The PS4 launched at $399 and 3 years later the PS4 Pro launched at $399 with 2.27 times the performance of the PS4.

The PS5 launched at $499 and 4 years later the PS5 Pro launched at $779 (disc drive included) with 1.7 times the performance of the PS5.

PS5 handles games good enough. For PS4 Pro it was the only way to play TLG at a playable framerate.

4090 cant keep solid 60 even at 720p coz matrix demo isnt optimised, got stutters/compiles shaders and got streaming issues, basically devteam focused on console optimisation and not pc optimisation.

ff16 in perf mode drops to horribly low res and still cant hold 60 on ps5, so yup, cpu is at fault, maybe ps5pr0 will help here a bit but dunno about stable 60.
topend pc can bruteforce it tho

The Gamestop equivalent in The Netherlands and Belgium has gone tits up last week. No trade in programs over here.

I just bought some blu-rays again since streaming is getting worse by the day, and my PS5 is my only blu-ray player. So the real price of the PS5P for me is $780 + tax.

Maybe $300 resale value on the PS5 Disc? After taxes and fees it's a >$500 upgrade. Tough pill to swallow without a system seller title.
100% agree. And, no disrespect to you using the PS5 as a blu ray player, as its fine. But the drive for PS5 is definitely not as good as my dedicated players. So for all that money...

I'll probably still get one, but I'm definitely being rogered here.

The presentation was dogshit. Digital Foundry do a far better job highlighting differences - maybe they should've just hired them to help. You don't sell this thing by doing little side-by-sides of insignificant background details in a tiny window. 9 minutes is not nearly enough time to properly explain the advantages, especially when 1/3 of that time is devoted to outlining the PS5's current performance vs fidelity dichotomy. They needed an easy mic drop moment of "why not have both?" with Pro and fumbled it hard.

They also really needed to show it off flexing its ray-tracing muscles. That's where the current consoles are very weak right now. I saw Alan Wake 2 in the sizzle reel and it's like a top 5 best looking game on the market. Showing that off with more ray-traced effects would be an easy difference that even laypeople would notice. Not this zooming into fuzzy edges bullshit that people think their TV sharpening setting will already do (and tbh they are partially right - my LG C1's sharpening is great).

There is also another problem with the presentation: DO NOT SHOW OFF PS4 PORTS AS A FLEX OF WHAT THIS CAN DO. The Last of Us Part II in 4K60, wowee! This is like what Polyphony was doing back in the early PS3 days when they were showing off demos of Gran Turismo 4, a PS2 game, running in 1080p.

Serious Donald Trump GIF by Bombay Softwares

It's ridiculous to show off the PS5 Pro as an upgrade to the PS5 when there is already barely anything on the PS5 showing an upgrade from the PS4. I actually laughed out loud when Cerny was touting the PS5's RDNA2 GPU as being able to render vast open worlds, and the game on screen is fucking Ghost of Tsushima which ran on a 1.84TF PS4 with a netbook CPU.

Finally they really need some sort of comparison page to really let people pick apart the details. Youtube compression destroys it all and makes it impossible to truly judge:

Do a Digital Foundry style site with screenshots people can magnify and compare. And talk up the AI upscaling every game is supposedly getting. SHOW, DON'T TELL how our old 1080p PS4 games can be enhanced to 4K.

All the xbros crying right now after telling everyone most gamers don't care about 60 fps. 3 quarters would rather pick performance mode over fidelity. £700 is pretty high but it’s for enthusiasts anyway.
On the 2 enthusiast forums I’ve looked at (GAF and Ree) the vast majority of posters and voters in polls seem to think this product at this price point is an absolute disaster.

If that’s what the enthusiasts think this product is DOA for the casual market.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.

In Europe the PS5 launched at €499 and 4 years later the PS5 Pro will launch at €920 (disc drive included). The value position of the PS5 is all out of whack here in Euroland.

Anecdotal my buddy last month said hell naw to a pro console this time around but after the reveal he's all in 😆 makes zero sense to me but here we are, just last week ps5 was fine for him, this thing will find a large audience even at $700. I definitely wavered after that price but after a brief moment of clarity I'm in.

Come on man, at least watch it yourself before inflicting it on us. Tip: he doesnt have the Pro!
Dude just gets to play with all the shit before even most pro sites.
He actually kind of pans it even though he is going to pick it up on Day 1. Probably because he can just write off the costs

One of the previous rumors said it’d support Dolby Vision for video streaming apps + blu ray. Is there any confirmation of this?

Absolutely crazy

As I said, i hope retailers have some room to adjust the value proposition with bundles and trade-in programs...

Otherwise, they are not selling this console in Europe
