PS5 shell discoloration

So after seeing a few people post concerns with "burn" spot on there PS5 shells i started to take a close look at mine. I did notice a small area of discoloration arounf the center of the left panel in almost the same spot as othere have complained about. Now mine was very minor and was in a perfect circle as you can make out in the pictures. It has a pure white color to it in that circle and the rest of the panel is greyish. I poped of the panel to see if it was heat related and what i found was quite interesting. There is a circle shaped grove on the inside of the panel in the exact spot of the outside discoloration. The plastic is way thinner here and it is also the focal point of the entire warped shape to the shell. There were no indication of overheating on the inside and every time i felt the system in that spot during play it was warm at worst. My conclusion is that the contort of the shell with minor heat coupled with the thin plastic in that area is whats causing the color change (like when you bend plastic). Annoying but nothing to be concerned about and a shell swap or paint job will easily fix the issue.

can you draw and circle around it please and do a 800% zoom, cos i cant see it

So yours is a lighter spot? Like whiter than the rest of the shell? Also, thank you for including the inside of the panel. Something missing from the two mysterious brown spots.

Do you keep it in the shelf seen in the photo? It does not look very ventilated and wondering if that causes any issues.

Yes its a bright white spot. I keep it vertical on a stand isolate behind the tv with plenty of room.

It's BARELY visible in your pictures OP... use stronger lighting if you want it to stand out more in the photos.

Still, it seems completely unrelated to the twitter images. I don't think bent plastic turns brown, and unless there is a catastrophic chain of malfunctionings going on, it's impossible the console gets that hot in a specific spot on the outer, detatched shell with nothing blowing air against it (by then, the inside would be half melted).

Some retard probably smudged or burned theirs with a lighter to post online because they are mentally ill, and after seeing the picture getting traction Odium did the same to his because... well, you can guess the rest yourself.

BTW, if you read the replies on Odium's post, suddenly a LOT of usual suspects (including some very high profile people like Dee) claim to have burn stains on their PS5 as well... but I'm yet to see any other pictures of it apart from those two. Makes your noggin joggin'.

EDIT: I'm not an expert in industrial plastic production, so it could be some legit manufacturing issue related to the paint or a chemical reaction making it discolor when undergoing repeated heating and cooling, even just by 10-20 degrees. What I'm saying is that you would need to bend physics and logic A LOT to assume the plastic itself is legit melting for the heat.

I agree, my point was to highlight that there is not indication of any type of heat related malfunction as indicated by the internal pictures and that overall its a minor issue. Who knows maybe some others are more significant but to me it looks like a minor issue that has been exaggerated and used for FUD.

Worst example ever because nobody can see any discoloration and if you keep it hidden behind a TV who gives a shit, it's not like you'll be able to see it.

I paid way too much for that TV in 2014. Was one of the very first with 4k but sadly no HDR. I want to upgrade but cant bring myself to do it.

Far too nice a reply for me being a jerk, thank you.

I'll help you find a new TV if you PM me, to offset my jerkery. It won't be a Samsung though unless 2019 models are still available where you are, because 2020 models suck baaaaalls and even in 2019 there is only one 4K set worth getting over other brands' models.

Not at all I just can't see why this is thread worthy. Your console has no discoloration , maybe if you see it in person it's very minimal 🤷‍♂️
Its thread worthy to highlight that the discoloration "concern" is minor and does NOT seem to be heat related. I also took pictures of the inside of the panel because for what ever reason noone else has when experiencing this issue. Thought people would like to "see" it thats all.

I might let my 6 yo niece decorate the PS5 flaps with a design of her choosing, can only improve its looks imo.

I saw someone on here painted theirs and it looked pretty good. I mean i think the design and color are pretty ugly. But looked much better in black imo.

Im trying hold out till at least next year, i doubt i could wait for a redesign.

Imagine a world where only Xbox fans and people that have been constantly lying about the PS5 have PVC showing burn spots. Has any of you touched the sides of the PS5 while in operation? It's lukewarm at most. PVC melts above 100 degrees Celsius, and I'm pretty sure the console would be shutting itself down by then.

Did you read the OP or just read the thread title look at the pictures then jump to conclusions? Unless you are talking about those twitter FUD posts then i apologize.

It was me, I broke into Odiums house and did this

I was feeling my ps5 around last night after gaming for 8 hours straight, and it felt cool/normal everywhere except the back. The back felt hot

consoles are designed to be cheap toys imo. As much as the makers try to glam them up, dont expect too much for 399/499.

Thats why it is better to keep the design simpler.

that said, even Sony >$1k phones have QC problems, search xperia 1ii pain peeling. 🤷‍♀️
