PSN/PS+ server issues

Truer words have never been spoken... Xbox/Microsoft is the worst thing to happen to gaming ever. Its funny how sony gets ragged on more than Microsoft ever has... For years Microsoft charged people and gave them nothing... Sony gives ps plus and people bitch like the world is ending.

Except for uh.. you know.. a stable and secure online service?

Damn, how did I miss this at the bottom of previous page?

Oh dear Stealthcobra. Oh dear. :-/

I can get behind the idea that servers can get hammered when millions of devices try to download updates.

What I simply cannot understand, is that the 8th biggest tech and entertainment company in the world (by revenue) is...

- unable to update its online stores without completely shutting them down
- unable to update its online stores worldwide at the same time
- unable to regularly provide system software updates with new features (like... DLNA or a build-in MP3/music player
- unable to manage the load on its servers every time again after a system software update comes out

Additionally, I'm questioning some of Sony's decisions (on PS4) such as:

- clearly refusing to give the PS4 DLNA support*
- not opening up its app eco system (why can't developers publish and manage their own apps, like on Apple's App Store or Google's Play Store)**

* DLNA support is still not here. One of the reasons why DLNA is not here (yet), might be because Sony also publishes a lot of TV series (such as Breaking Bad), movies (ever heard of Batman?) and music (you may have heard about a guy named Michael Jackson).
In my opinion, it's clear that Sony is worried about piracy and is instead looking to push legal services, such as Netflix or its own Music Unlimited... which brings me to point two:

** I simply do not understand why Sony doesn't allow for some sort of app ecosystem. Everytime Netflix wants to update its app, it needs to go through a long procedure of approval. And they need to update their app for every single country where the PS4 is available (so while country X may have version 1.3.2, country Y is still using 1.2.6).
Also, if Sony had a more open app ecosystem, the need for build-in features (like DLNA) might evaporate... because "there will be an app for that" (either by Sony or a 3rd party developer).

Especially when it comes to apps, its clear that Sony is very careful which apps they will allow on the PS4. Namely:

- their own services (such as Music Unlimited)
- and apps with at least tens of millions users worldwide, which they simply cannot ignore (such as Netflix)

I honestly believe that if Sony was going to take a more consumer-friendly approach, it would benefit both Sony and the consumer.

Wow.. they are still acting as if nothing happened

Isnt that from 12:13am?

Because 365 days, 24 hours a day and minor hiccups here or there, that may equal a week or 2...Isn't cause for concern if u actually have a life

Na sorry, you can try to be edgy or patronising all you like but that is some lazy and flawed logic. It could be applied to anything. Cop out.

The fact of the matter is we're paying for a service that isn't being delivered on a regular basis at present and it's simply not good enough.

Guys come on though, we can't seriously just mindlessly go through the motions of these threads again every time this happens. And frankly I don't know how some of you guys can do it every time and just repeat the same thing ad nauseam. "WTF SONY." "Ridiculous!" "I pay for PS+ fix this shit Sony!" Every time. Frankly its a waste of time and achieves nothing and its always the same in these threads for the past year. No one is excusing the problems; but maybe time would be better spent doing something about it to let Sony know you think its unacceptable than it is just rabbling here.

EDIT: Also if you do decide to try to communicate the issue to Sony be mature about it, a well-written email or earnest tweet goes much farther than saying "FUCK YOU Sony! Selling my PS4" on twitter.

Bad system moddelling. It really looks like Sony doesn't know how to do it. :/

We know they lurk on GAF though.

At the start of the gen, they were the more consumer-friendly option. That's changed considerably one year in. The XB team has been working hard to improve their lot. Perhaps if XB has a decent holiday season, Sony will start to up their game. At the moment, they don't have much incentive to.

Frankly I'm surprised Update 2.0 didn't immediately break PSN and actually allowed people to get the update before breaking.

If this continues people will start playing their multiplayer games on Xbox Live....

and Psn for single player.

This constant loss of service every bloody week sends a very poor message.

I think I can forget relying on Psn in Xmas holidays...

You're posting this in the "PSN/PS+ server issues" thread. The fact that you're saying "always the same in these threads for the past year" should be a bit of an indication as to how often this is happening and why people are justifiably frustrated.

or not upgrade to next-gen at all.

The image is going to be
XB1 - Always Online
PS4 - Never Online

The PlayStation Network is currently: Offline.

PSN is currently offline, and we are hard at work to resume service. At this time an estimate as to when PSN will be online is unavailable; however, we will update this article as soon as there's additional information. If you would like to receive a notice when PSN is fully restored, be sure to follow the official PlayStation Twitter account and our support Twitter account, @AskPlayStation.

Destiny is pushing a patch live today, players may be returned to the title screen and required to log back in to Destiny after installing.

Fix this shit, Sony, I need to join a club on DriveClub to unlock cars!

I agree with you mostly, except for DLNA. It is a nice feature to have but you knew buying the PS4 that it didn't have DLNA.

Also, you do realize that when you submit an App to itunes or play you also go through an approval process. It would be nice if Sony provided a SDK for creating apps for the PS4 but each and every app developer would still need to go through an approval process.

Just updated fw, tried to go to the store to get some themes, fucking maintenance. Sony has serious issues with their network for months now.

Did you even read my post? Please explain to me where I said this isn't happening often and people shouldn't be frustrated? What I said in my post is that we waste our time complaining for nothing to get done from it, lets do something productive and try to actually communicate the issue better with Sony instead of just complaining in these threads.

you're a brave soul, trying to get connected to PSN *AND* play DriveClub online at the same time? If you're not careful you'll bring down PSN again for the rest of us.

Well I can load the web store now which is more than I could before, but I still can't sign in. Attempting to do so just gets me an unhelpful "Signin Failed" error dialog.

I had to hard reboot my PS4 because it was stuck flashing the orange light at me after trying to wake it out of rest mode. Is that the update or could this be related?

You seem to be complaining about the complaining going on in a complaint thread. If your point is that we need to complain elsewhere too, then it just wasn't clear from your post.

#PlaystationNotwork should be trending. I tweeted (and I hardly ever tweet).

and thats why i dont pay for ps plus

i know i know its not like Microsoft infrastructure and they have computer people making sure this type of thing doesnt happen but, no thanks i will not pay for ps plus as it currently stands

Stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyways- why haven't any video game 'journalists' asked Sony about this constant headache in an interview?!

This is what I'm beginning to wonder. Why the fuck are no journalists tracking how often it goes down and asking Sony about it. The fact there is just zero explanation each time and they haven't sent any message of "we're working to make things better" is pretty infuriating.

PS3 has it.
Sony TVs have it.
You bring up pushing their own legal services like Music Unlimited, but they just added MP3 support.

You're ignoring a whole lot of information that says you're wrong.

You do not understand why Sony is doing what every other console manufacturer is doing? Not saying it wouldn't be good, but no other console is open like that except maybe the Ouya.

Also, Netflix does not have to update their app for every single country. There's 3 regions that each handle certifications for all the countries in their region. And they don't have to support every country. Netflix is available in UK which is under SCEE, same as Australia, but Australia doesn't have the Netflix app.

I posted that they should change the Primary/Secondary thing back to two Primary consoles a la the PS3 on reddit and someone called me a "game sharing leech".

I am having the same issues with PSN since the 2.0 hardwear update.
I have had tons of issues with PSN ever since moving. I used to have Comcast with about 30 mbs hard-lined. I could play all the time just fine minus the PSN outages.
Now that I moved my roommates wanted at&t. We got that with 7mbs and it is communal so I don't have it hard-lined into my bedroom. Destiny just came out and I played it a ton for a week, just fine. Then I couldn't play for more than 30 minutes with out it kicking me off. It is shit. I don't know if it is the PS4 wireless, Destiny, or AT&T. I can watch Netflix or whatever just fine.

Xbox Live on the 360 being down/a mess for weeks during New Year 2007/2008 wasn't such a great performance either. Especially with people literally only paying for online gaming back then.

The reason was that they didn't anticipate so many new 360 users. Could be that the problem is similar for Sony, investments in their online environment might have been planned for lower PS4 sells. Especially considering that apparently >95% of all PS4s are online.
