Top Hat, Tap Shoes, and Cane...its coming.

How can you be coming when I'm already there?

So after many months of pressure due to whips and chains from Nintendo, I shall have a PSP in my hands within the month.

First definite games are Metal Gear Acid and Ridge Racer.

Should I really bother getting GTA: LCS?

No, wait for the superior PS2 version.

Or is that wait for the eventual superior Xbox version of the PS2 version of the PSP version?

I forget.

What about PC version?

That really depends if your idea of portable gaming is sitting on the couch with a handheld or if you want your favourite franchises with you out on the road I guess.

Got Legend of Heroes for Christmas and played for an hour or so... now that I got FF4 Advance beat, all of the MKDS characters unlocked, and I'm stuck on the end boss in Sonic Rush, I'm gonna make this my portable game to play for those lunch hours at work. Legend of Heroes seems cool so far, although with a horrible translation that harkens back to the days of old. "food friends" being my favorite mistake in the script so far. The battle system is kind of like Lunar where the guys will run to the enemies and strike, instead of lining up, attacking, and walking back - didn't really fight too many battles so I don't know how range affects spellcasting and movement, if at all. Graphics I personally think look pretty lovely - 2D sprites, some nice high resolution character portraits, and decent (although slightly jaggy) 3D. You can't rotate the view though. I am especially pleased with the quality of the textures used, very organic looking. the music is pretty decent, too, but I haven't heard any of the classic amazing Falcom buttrock so far. The game definitely has 16 bit stylings in its story and gameplay, but in a flashy PSP coat of paint.

But then again I guess I like what MAF calls "vanilla RPG fare" - DQ8 specifically is my favorite game in a long while...

I didnt say vanilla RPG fair is bad, but DQ8 and Legend of Heroes aside from the story stick so close to the conventional RPG mechanics its pretty safe to call it the vanilla.

These DS/PSP hate fests are just sad.

Is it more fun to rant on a Forum instead of enjoying what both systems have to offer?

Oh...wait it is isn't it?

Haha I own both and the DS gets like 10x the play time my PSP does. Still waiting Sony...

I finished Kingdom of Paradise the other day and if you like ARPG games you might like this one. The story is not that hot, but the graphics are good and the combo system is pure genius!

Kingdom of Paradise is fun, but IMO horribly broken. I liked the combo system but the fact that there was no real way to block until you had already taken 3 hits is stupid. I mean attack and block should not be the same button.

Plus the story did suck.

MAF, why do you need to be so angry? I play my PSP too but I am just waiting for a game that is not underwhelming. It is the perfect handheld for a good quality original RPG, but there isn't one.

Meanwhile the DS has already delivered a lot of what I want.

According to MAF, you don't want quality.

I know, that was just one example. I really just find the PSP library dissapointing so far. There are no stellar original games. Here is hoping 2006 will be better.

Lets see...(Checks his DS game case...) stupid...stupid..stupid shit? Nope, don't have any of that.

I have a good strategy RPG(Advance Wars), I have a new original touch screen game(Kirby), I have a class 2D adventure game(Castlevania), I have an awesome online game(MarioKart), I have one of my favorite 2D sonics to date(Sonic Rush), I have one of my favorite puzzle games to date(Meteos), I have a silly fighting game to play with friends(Jump Superstars). Oh I'm sorry, no friends MAF? :(

Haha, nope no stupid shit.

Lumines

I can see the whole 'original' argument being somewhat supported, but you cannot deny that there have been several stellar games.

You also have a DragonBallZ game name in your handle :p

Just sayin'

People shouldn't complain about originality and then use Mario Kart, Advance Wars, Castlevania and Kirby as examples of something better. :lol

Actually that name isn't coming from the Budokai game. Budokai in Japanese just means tournament. I made this handle up in around 3rd grade.

And if you can't call the Kirby game original, then you obviously haven't played it.

And no I don't own AC or Nintendogs. I abhor them.

And by original I really meant not a port.

Well safely assuming you haven't played every single PSP game released that didn't seem to stop you from labelling the entire PSP lineup as underwhelming, no?

It really doesn't stop you or MAF from saying that there is no quality games on the DS either does it? The DS line-up doesn't go past "wash a dog and plant trees" right?

I didn't say that, please be more accurate when quoting the semi-literate tripe that makes up the content of my posts.

I love how I come in and make a light hearted comment, including my personal taste on the two console. And then damage control begins.

I have played a hell of a lot of games on the PSP. I stand by my opinion that it is underwhelming. I am not hating on the PSP, I just hope this year turns out better for software.

And don't talk about misquoting. Look back at my post. I did not say " the entire lineup is underwhelming." Instead I said I am waiting for a a game that is not underwhelming. So, like from my own point of perspective, a game I will thoroughly enjoy. Oh..oh wait? I can't have my own opinion? :(

And about Lumines, I played it and enjoyed it. But I just feel it is outclassed by Meteos. I love the touch screen action.

But yes it is a good game.
