I just completed this for the Winter Backlog-o-thon and it's easily one of my favourite games ever. I even re-bought it on GOG.com for being DRM-free and having the extras.

Wow @ the naysayers in this thread, though it seems most of them played the PS2/Xbox versions. The PC version is beautiful on my 1080p monitor, with the exception of the rendered cutscenes which are blurry and horizontally stretched. I don't know why they didn't do everything in-game.

The 360 controller works really well. To save you some faffing around in the config menu, find Profiles > Profile 1 > Profile 1 - ***.ini and add the following lines:

These controls should be similar to the setup in the Xbox version.

me too. i still bought it on steam though.

i'll play it on my pc with my wireless 360 pad on my couch with my HDTV and surround sound.

what about playing it on console tops that?
 
I've got a nice big backlog from the holiday Steam sale alone, not to mention I already have it for PS2, but at $2, I couldn't resist double dipping for myself and picking it up for a friend. <3
 
EVERYBODY that has a Steam account should buy AT LEAST ONE COPY of Psychonauts.

I don't care if you hide behind some mythical thing you call a "budget" that can't overdraft 2 Dollars, if you use phrases like "I already have a copy of it on WHATEVER system" or "I really don't care about it". You should buy it. You WILL buy it. And you WILL enjoy it.

I already have this, and honestly, I don't see what the big deal is.
The game isn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but it's definitely not worth the insane amount of praise that it gets.
 
Just putting this out there, this game is beatable with a mouse & kb. So if you don't have a controller or are waiting for one, try it with a mouse & keyboard. It may takesome getting used to but it's completely doable.
 
Bought it without a second thought the minute it was available.

I did not experience it at the time of release some years ago but I know people love it. And that price is a steal so I went ahead and purchased it.

Now I need to find some time to play it...
 
I always felt guilty for renting this game and not buying it. It was the first time I actually felt that after playing a rental. Anyway.. bought.

The Meat Circus almost had me throw my controller at the screen, that BLOODY escort mission. I kept with it though and eventually got past it. It was so worth it!
 
I've wanted to try Psychonauts for a while - the crazy aesthetic attracts me. This deal is too good to pass up. Just to be sure though, are there any compatibility issues with Windows 7 that would make the GOG version preferable?
 
Amazing deal, bought. I'll have to get a USB controller for this though, I can't imagine kb/m controls suiting a game like this very well.
 
Sweet, glad to here the 360 contrller works with it fine, also I've just read you can edit the DisplaySettings.ini file to get 1920x1200 which is good news.

I'm all for having a budget, but MISC should be part of it otherwise you might miss out on awesome deals like this.

This is possible, but according to WGF, there will be stretched HUD, FMVs and journal screens.

This just popped up on my screen after I was playing some Max Payne which I bought during the holiday sales. And I just bought Company of Heroes which I've had no time to play yet. These steam deals are eating up my time and wallet at this rate. Yeah, even at $2. :P

I tried psychonauts before, but it didn't really do much for me. The first level seemed like a simple uninspired collecta-thon type of game, but I'm guessing it gets better quickly then? From reading all the comments I can't really make out what makes this game so special. Also I couldn't get my DS2/3 to work properly with this game, but I suppose that issue has been fixed in the meanwhile?

Lastly, I tend to completely avoid buying games with DRM. Does this mean I can only install this game 5 times until I'm not allowed to anymore? :s

The sheer amount of dialogue and how even the small characters get their own story arcs is awesome. Also it remains the only platformer with the good sense to make levels based on the journey to the center of the mind concept.

It was worth it for the Milkman Conspiracy alone.

Well, I downloaded & played through the basic brain training on a Windows 7 notebook with a 360 controller.

No problems here. You just need to set the controller bindings.

You can view this as saving money. Some time when you were going to the bar to have a $5 beer or going to a $10 movie . . . play this instead. And it will actually save you money. :D

Re:DRM . . . does it have any DRM on the Steam version? I don't see anything about it?

Is there a good script or something for the Dualshock controller to be used on the PC? I tried it with Left 4 Dead and the analog sticks messed up and would not let me aim properly...I guess the axis couldn't be assigned well.
 
Buy it, but be prepared for an awesome story and horrible, horrible platforming. The final level in particular is enough to make you quit gaming altogether.
 
What was so bad about the plattforming? Didn't remember it that way. Everyone who claims this: explain yourself. Maybe next time I can judge myself what bad plattforming exactly is.

And: Where's the milkman?
 
I bought it with no real intention of playing it anytime soon. Ugh. These amazing steam deals are killing me slowly.


I buy with the idea that even though I won't be playing it now, I may eventually have some free time not reserved for another game and I'll be happy to have it.
 
Bought! I played it a bit back on PS2 when I found that for 10 bucks, and really loved what I played, but I got sidetracked and haven't come back. It'll be nice to play it on the computer where I'm sure it'll be less blurry now. Mainly, though, my girlfriend wants to play it. She loves platformers much more than me.
