Quartermann: Bionic Commando to Return...Old?

Doc Holliday

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161576

The newest pages of Electronic Gaming Monthly bring a tasty plate of rumors from the Quartermann. Remember when he teased about a Bionic Commando remake coming to PlayStation Network? Turns out development has gone better than expected, as the downloadable's been canned in favor of a full-fledged game. Now, if they'd only get the original up on Virtual Console...

I believe this news...

If that wasn't enough RPG goodness, expect Square Enix to take a break from remaking Final Fantasy games to...remake Dragon Quest games, instead. The first one in the makeover chair? Dragon Quest IV, headed straight for the DS. Surprise, surprise.

Dragona called this the week the FF4 remake was announced. I remember her repeatedly in the thread claiming that the rumors were wrong, and it was DQ4 that was getting a DS remake.

... hrm.

wow!! nice!

sad that I don't have a PS3 but I am glad a BC remake is in the works, the series deserve to live on.

Where are the EGM reviews and rumors anyway? Someone posted the Halo 3 preview but what about the usual stuff?

That was leaked by someone at the printers (and he has promptly been fired as a result), not a subscriber who got the magazine early.

Awesome. One of my favorite DQ games. I remember being bummed out it never got a GBC remake.

I've only played a bit of Dragon Quest, mainly because it's a pain playing it on PS2, but I'd be all over any portable versions. RPGs suit that format so much better for me.

This is a dodgy omen at best, but whenever I've brought up Bionic Commando on the Capcom boards, Sven has always gone out of his way to say how much he likes the game and how much he'd like to see a sequel. I've always wondered if he likes the game that much or if he was tacitly encouraging the faithful to keep the candles burning because a sequel is in the pipeline.

19 years of waiting makes a man grasp at any straw he comes across.

This is the 1up show megaton, confirmed!!
ok probably not.

But a new Bionic Commando would be very very cool.

4 more Level 5 rpgs AND DQ4 remake? now that's hot :D

Are they somehow related, cuz if Level5 is handling the graphics engine, that'd be awesome ><

Next-gen Hitler no Fukkatsu?

I wonder what a next-gen version of the scene where you shoot Hitler in the helicopter would look like. :<

Elite Commandos on GBC was decent but nowhere near as good as the original. Hopefully it stays 2D but I doubt that.

Hell yes, Super Joe needed a comeback.
Here's hoping they keep the graphics style intact (colourful, funny and round-ish even in 3D) and a forest level in which you climb huge trees until you can see the forest below and the ocean in the distance. Ah, the memories.

What about a proper Strider sequel, now, Capcom ?

Here's a question: did anyone actually ever beat Bionic Commando? I would always rent it, play with the grappling hook on the first level, and once I got a few levels in, I would get destroyed and disenfranchised. Love it though.

Why does it always gotta be Nazis? and Snakes...

Capcom USA was suppossedly planning a PS2/Xbox revival last gen, before their internal studio got shut down... I'm guessing this new title is coming from Japan then? Or maybe it's Capcom USA's outsourced UE3 game?

After Contra 4 for the DS being announced and then made reality (of awesome!), I'm willing to believe anything, practically.

On another note, I'm personally leaning towards the DS for great justice. In my opinion, more high-quality 2D action is probably what Super Joe really could stand to need, not UE3 powered high-res visuals and gore that would just make it look like everything else out there...

I do believe it's the first game I finished and I was 8 years old!

I think I'd agree here. Plus with handheld games you have the bonus of "automatic bargain pricing" which would make something riskier like this easier to swallow.

I'm totally split on this - I've wanted a remake/sequel to the NES game forever, but I'm terrified they'll screw it up somehow.
