Ratchet and clank, is the truly nextgen game bar none, not cyberpunk, not metro exodus enhanced not any maybe demon souls. Because its simply breathtaking and using nextgen features that none of the other games have

1.instant level streaming like never before, no game out there can do this magic, streaming a whole game world in a flash. Wish i could drop a gif

2. Strand hair rendering, like fifa 21, miles morales ps5 the hair on characters in ratchet are fully strand based not cards/ alpha textures this is fully cgi material

3. Polygons, so much polygons weve all seen unreal 5 demo, demon souls and alot of talk about ps5s polygon computing capabilities, not sure the geometry engine is on use in this game but they are throwing more polygons per scene than any game out there besides demon souls, from characters and environments i havent seen any sharp edges everything is round, you dont see this in any game, even the stuff you might overlook and doesnt need alot of poly count is round in this game its a phenomenal work from insomniac.
Look at rivets glasses, all round

Even the environments..

You dont see this in any game out there and i think people overlook this quality in ratchet and clank rift apart. This shows nextgen games are now almost immune to poly counts i expect more next gen games to have such geometry complexity, such a quality production from insomniac im a big fan now and this is why ill buy a ps5 and its why nextgeneration consoles are made for, its not just about more pixels, more frames per second and raytraced puddels its the quality of the production its about new features that artists couldnt do before, streaming worlds in a flash, cgi quality poly counts, cgi quality animations and expressions, density of the worlds. New Controller haptic feedback features, its games like this with the fresh new overall experience that shows why the PS5 is a nextgen console.

After 2016 I lost intrest with the series, the gameplay was good but the characters lacked a personality, it also felt easy even on the hardest difficulty. Now though with the announcement that the 2016 reboot effectively does not exist, and well the game looking like this, I'm very interested indeed.

Polygons, so much polygons weve all seen unreal 5 demo,

I disagree on this one - the characters do look superb and very detailed, which is especially seen in all the close-ups, but the environments look rather simple, basic, dare I say low-poly. The shadowing is also off on some objects, 4th screen being the best example here, which actually looks like a PS4 game rather than a next-gen only title, let alone the UE5 demo... IMHO as great as the upcomign R&C looks, Kena takes the crown when it comes to the so-called Pixar-like visuals.

Yes the high number of polygons is possible thanks to the geometry engine (primitive shaders). But I'd say the next-gen streaming is already used in Demon's souls to load new assets during gameplay. It's simply not visible.

You dont understand polygon resolutions, any graphics artist understands what im saying, the environments arent simple in poly counts theres nothing low poly here that is absurd.🤣🤣🤣, unreal 5 is hyper real so the environments are meant to lool realistic, this game is aimomg for a cartoony cgi pixar look doesnt meant its low poly, can you show me any sharp edges in the pictures ive posted?

for reference this is what i mean by high poly vs low poly

The more polygons you keep adding or the more you subdivide thr monkeys edges the more smooth it becomes. The more the memory the more the processing, before only films could have complex poly counts in every object.

and here is cyberpunk, known as the! nextgen game on pc

As you can see highlited are polygon edges, the objects in cyberpunk are made of average polycounts something you see in alll games out there doesnt matter the whatever graphical effects on top of the games whether its raytracing or what but the poly counts are always average its only ratchet and clank thats this smooth. Look at how well rounded that entrance is! Theres no edges.

Look even at this characters outfit the circular things are smooth as butter you only see this in cgi films or pre remdered cutscenes this is the polygonal quality im talking about. Its phenomenal developers would never add such polygon complexity on things you can easily overlook but they just throw polygons on everything in this game its incredible.

Yeah im just curious they might not even be using the geometry engine it could just be the traditional faster processors and more ram but here we go everything is smooth.

Where is 60 fps mode?. 30 fps is not for me.
Wait, what? Guess that's the only similarity between the game and Pixar movies: framerate

The game looks aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but it's definitely not on Pixar's level. No games are honestly. We're slowly getting there, but we have plenty of ways to go. Anyone who thinks differently needs to seriously check out any Pixar movie from the past decade or so, especially when it comes to aliasing (lack thereof) and lighting.

Hopefully they implement a high framerate mode, cause it seems several are complaining about how awful 30fps is after finally playing 60fps titles for the first time.

This is like being used to DF tier analysis and then some random Youtuber wants a piece of the tech analysis pie so he puts out a 15 minute video with a fake FPS graph overlay and says stuff like "look at these pixels wow" and thinks it's some deep analysis. I assume VFXVeteran VFXVeteran is gonna buy Ratchet at some point so I'm waiting for the inevitable real analysis thread :messenger_winking:

Not trying to be rude btw, this "analysis" is just extremely superficial and full of buzzwords that don't mean anything ("cgi like").

I see ur still butt hurt. 🤣🤣🤣 you see buzzwords because you dont understand the technicalities you should go back and do a short course in computer graphics and come back and read the post then youll understand it. Vfx veteran,df or jesus christ wont help you.

It’s all very incredible, the RT, the lighting, the character models, the animation, the fur, the density, how alive it is etc

But to me, the way it does all that so seamlessly is what brings it all together and makes it look like an interactive CG animated movie. It’s like there’s no limit to what they can do, it’s so impressive.

I can only laugh at the fanboy warriors who choose this game to go to war with. You guys look beyond pathetic, and would be laughed out of the room by everyone in the industry.

Nah it doesn't look as good as cyberpunk with everything on full whack including the bounce lighting. Still looks good though.

It looks better than Cyberpunk. Yes I played it with all the RTX on.

I watched this for like the 4th time last night, and it suddenly dawned on me that this looks as good as the Unreal 5 demo. How crazy is that.

I am starting to really think this is more like 1440p than 4k, though, so what that would mean for the IQ of the 60fps mode is a bit concerning.

If they are genuinely doing these visuals at close to 4k30 then, frankly, the PS5 is just way more powerful than I thought possible.

I just don't see the hype for the level streaming. Like what's the gameplay difference between being in the portal for a few extra seconds? Doesn't seem like more than a little QOL upgrade.
Well without the level streaming, youll be on 1 minute elevator, a 5 minute loading screen, a long cutscene to hide the popin thats happening, a long walk inside a cave to hide the absurd popin and asset streaming, basically youd be doing stuff youve been doing for the past 20 years of gaming ever since 3d games where invented. I know devs have explained why the io on ps5 is revolutionary countless times and people are bored of explaining it but atleast try to understand. Its getting old now.

I bet once the game releases and gets looked at by plenty of tech experts it'll turn out that this "streaming in worlds within seconds" is just marketing talk. you can do that on regular SSD's for sure
And you can fly to the moon with a bicycle. People just dont seem to understand things ignorance is really bliss.

You laughed at my post. Why not try answering the question?

It’s like asking what’s the difference to a song if we need to stretch the notes? What happens to the driving experience when a car is slow to shift gears? What happens to a speech delivery when the speaker needs long pauses between delivery? What is rythm? What is flow? What is freedom to deliver on your vision with less compromise? What happens to a joke that takes to long to reach the punch line?

It’s an absurd question. Sorry you force yourself to think like that. Some of us are fortunate enough to be blessed with a different kind of awareness.

I've been using SSDs for over 10 years now and bitched very loudly that Xbox one and PS4 didn't use one. I've said many times that those consoles have been holding back games since launch. Now let's slow down the ps5 SSD to say half speed. What's the gameplay difference to being in the portal for 4 seconds instead of 2? It's a minor quality of life improvement. Nothing shown for this game wasn't possible on PC a few years ago other than shaving a few seconds off the portals.
It's neat sure and it's a QOL upgrade but what's the gameplay difference?

  • Ratchet can now Dash and Wall-Run.
  • Dimensional Tears allows the Player to use the Rift Tether to traverse the level or flank the enemies
  • Weapons use the power of the Dualsense, through Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback.
  • SSD allows Near-Instant Travel to Entire New Levels with Dimensional Shifts.
  • Immersive spatial environments with 3D Audio.
  • There will be Gold Bolts, puzzles, Glitch Challenges, Arena Challenges, Pocket Dimensions to explore, and much more.
  • Photo Mode Returns with many new features
  • Accessibility Options, including a toggle-able Game Speed modes, more to come.

For a PC gamer its another monday, for a PS4 gamer its next gen. They finally realize how bad they had it with the PS4 on the load speeds.

This is the first ps5 game I am buying to play with my kid but let's not kid ourselves regarding the graphics, it's not as impressive as the hyperbole in the OP.

Yet to see anything as technically advanced or pretty as cyberpunk maxed out on PC.

What’s the gameplay difference between what you play on your high end pc today, and what people were playing during Half life 2 days?

Better loadings? So basically just a QoL upgrade. Amazing man.

Love it when PC players think they know anything about game development just because they can turn on settings in the options menu. Guess PC having turned into a console port machine messed with the ego of a lot of people. Yes when PCs with SSDs run console games, loadings are faster. Yay. Now show me a game on PC that does what Ratchet does in gameplay, and show me a Pc game that does what the U5 tech demo did. Go ahead I will wait.

So from very fast to near instant. Slight QOL upgrade if you ask me.

I think that's the issue people are not getting. I double checked, I got my first SSD 12 years ago. For 12 years I've been imaging actual gameplay advancements. R&C really only had QOL improvments and zero gameplay changes.

Okay. We will find out soon enough. SSD's aren't some special sauce like so many people at Sony want you to believe.
Mate its not sony you should be mad about its your ignorance. Somy didnt invent ssds they just made the ps5 efficient in data streaming by not only plugging a ssd but by engineering silicon and apis to remove the latemcy that exists between ssds and gpu, by basically making the ssd a huge memory bank. This is why developers have explained for months not just from sony but different companies from epic to microsoft to metro exodus creators to everybody and why developers are more exited about the ps5s io than anything.

If you could just plug a ssd into a pc like you plug ur iphone charger to a potato and started charging then the ssd tech on ps5 and all the engineers who have worked on the industry long before most of us have been around are stupid and your more smarter than them.

Nvidia adding gpu io data decompression to stream data straight from ssd to gpu on their rtx cards are stupid, microsoft engineering velocity architecture are stupid the whole sony team, mark cerny are stupid and everything is marketing, and unicorns exist, father christmas exists and were all just a simulation.

YOu cant do this on a ssd on pc without technologies that are on ps5 and series x it womt be 4 seconds on pc itll be a minute, remember the other worlds its streaming are not in ram, all those assets are cold data streamed straight from the ssd in a flash. Devs have explained this for months but people still dont get it.
