So does anyone know whether the allocation of medals in the challenges is proportional or if there's a set number? It's difficult enough as if is; imagine a couple of months from now when only the really good players are left :/

It's proportional. For the weekly challenge you can get a bronze at the beginning of the week and it might turn even into a gold by the end of it, if enough weaker players play.

I remember reading that the diamond medal is awarded to the top 1% of players, so if your in the top 10 on the leader boards you should be a shoe in for a diamond medal. That's easier said than done though, I've only managed it a couple of timed on the ps3 and vita so far. Grinding to the last level of awesomeness I'd going to take me another couple of months or so...

For the Achivements I thinks it's more effective to just play the challenges once to thrice, instead of going for diamond (most people will not be in the diamond ranks after a few tries I guess - I know I am not at least ;)), over playing for a longer period of time to get diamond. When I got my (only) diamond on the PS Vita version, it took me about as much play time as (at least) 20 gold trophies. So, not really worth it for me.

I spent 3 hours last night grinding the same daily challange just so I could shave of those last hundreds of a second and beat all on my friendslist. Its so effin' addictive D: Reminds me of playing some old sport game (track and field??) for hours trying to break my friends records :) Good times.

Can we thrown our PSN names on here so I can have a bit of GAF competition? None of my friends play anything other than COD, FIFA or GTA5.

G-FYoshi, but I guess, looking at the names of the games, you are probably playing on PS3, aren't you?

Game is so good. Shitty playlist I'll never finish because of GTA V/Online, Battlefield Beta, new consoles and all of that, but this game, man. If it just released at a better time...well, no one would give a shit then either. But it's so good. I want to live in the Enchanted Forest, fighting weird dudes, running up trees and fucking around with fart flowers. Want it more than anything. Maybe have a daughter who is a viking. Ok, not more than anything, but you know what I mean. So good.

Anyone have a recommendation for the best level to lum farm in?

I just got all 700 teansies so I just need to do some clean up and get 1000000 lums.

I dont even want to think about 8bit levels on the tiny 3DS screen.

Oh man when everyone in here was talking about 8 bit levels I was expecting actual 8 bit versions of the levels, not shitty camera and graphics so horrible it's impossible to see what you are doing.

Yeah, I didn't see that coming. I was looking forward to real 8 bit graphics..

My pick would be the music levels, as you're bound to do them quickly, and they're the most fun.

Good god. I keep automatically dying halfway through the 8 bit day of the dead music level? I jump perfectly to slide down the chain and the fire catches me. Any help?

I adore this game, but this 8 bit section sucks.

How is this different from origins?
It's not vastly different. I feel like they've tightened up the controls. Added Murphy levels change the pace but I find them very enjoyable. Unfortunately an easier game, but the levels, art, music, and gameplay are bliss.

Unless you hated origins you should give it a shot.

I just tried the demo of this game in Wal-Mart on a Wii-U. It was also the first time I had tried a Wii-U.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't a BIT.TRIP RUNNER style rhythm game with Black Betty playing in the background. The art was kind of neat, but I don't know that I would want to play the full game. I didn't notice any checkpoints since it always placed me back at the beginning when I failed. However, I stopped failing after maybe 1/3 or 1/2 through the level so there could have been later checkpoints. The touchscreen seemed to work well though of course I didn't need it for the game. The controller seemed comfortable.

Of course, I gather from this thread that the particular level I played may not be representative of the game as a whole, and other levels might be more traditional platformer-style.

The game has a great checkpoint system for the most part. Checkpoints are usually in between parts where you are likely to die, so you don't have to restart the levels. Some levels such as the musical levels or challenge levels don't have checkpoints(because they are quite short) but other than that you don't need to worry about it.
The game is quite varied so you get different types of levels all the time. But if you like what you have played it only gets better.

All the music levels have checkpoints except for the very final bunch
the 8-bit versions

The problem is that once you 100% the main game, the only way to get trophies is to do the daily/weekly challenges, and you only get two a day (plus the two weeklies). Considering you need about 1,900 points from challenges to make the final rank, that's going to take just under 12 weeks of playing every day -- and that's if you get gold on every single challenge. Each Diamond trophy you get cuts that down by about two days. If you're constantly getting Diamond, you'll have it in a bit over two weeks... but that's really damn hard. I've been playing on XBL and the Extreme challenges typically only have ~2,000 players on them, which means about only 20 Diamond cups per day given out.

It really comes down to a question of time spent playing over calendar days. I've gotten good enough at the Survival and Dojo challenges that I can get diamond in most of them, but man that can get annoying (especially since it feels like the later segments of the survival courses were not fully playtested -- there's lots of random little placement issues that can completely ruin a run if you're doing things the "normal" way).

PSA: PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 versions are all now $40 at GameStop.

Edit: Also on Amazon! Well, for the Wii U version, at least.

The murfy levels suck so bad on the PS3, they should have just had him auto do things or just change those little things. It works semi ok in coop if one person just stays bubbled and does the murfy stuff.

Yeah it can be frustrating. They're not horrible, but my wife and I both grumble every time one comes up. But I could have bought it on Wii U and didn't, because I don't want to be forced into the touch screen stuff when playing by myself.

So, I bought this game on the Wii U, and I am bummed out that I need to use the gamepad. Is it possible to play with the Pro controller only? Plus, are murphy levels fun? I enjoyed the game when I played the PC version, and somewhat regret not buying it on the PC now.

Shit, I was planning to buy a PC version, but a day ago I bought WiiU, as I had a very nice offer to buy it for a small price.

So, now I have a choice. On one hand, I can play it dirty cheap on PC, or pay more and play it on WiiU. While I was playing the demo on steam, I remember saying, that those shoehorned quasi-touch elements would work better on WiiU, but then I wasn't even thinking of getting one.

So, WiiU Rayman owners, is it worth it to pay more and play Legends on WiiU?

if you have any inclination to do co-op, WiiU is a no brainer. Looks like you didnt like the controller variation of Murfy which also makes me think you should pony up for the WiiU version.

Yup, wasn't a big fan of it. Also you reminded me about co-op, and now I think it's a no brainer for me to go with WiiU version. Thanks.

Is Living Dead Party a world, or just one single level?

I just beat the main game, and I need to get more Teenies to unlock it. A few more Origins levels should do it, but I'm just curious.

Its a world that consists of
The Livid Dead musical stage, and "8bit" (read:CRT/Static Effects/Extreme Pixelation that looks more like you have glaucoma than 8bit) versions of all previous music stages.

Just finished all the 8-bit levels. I didn't struggle with them as much as I expected based on what I've heard from people here, but that doesn't change the fact that they're unfair. I can certainly see how some people would struggle with them, and they're completely out of place in this game. The hardest levels in any game (especially a platformer) should test everything you've learned up to that point, but the 8-bit levels don't do that. You're tasked with beating some levels you've already done before, but this time with the bizarre handicap of poor visuals.

Furthermore, it's also anticlimactic. Rayman Origins' final level was not only the hardest level by far, but it was wonderfully designed, and had a completely different aesthetic from the rest of the game, so it felt like a true reward. These 8-bit levels might have been OK if they were presented as extras that were available immediately after beating each respective musical level, but they're poor end-game content, as they're not new levels.

Now all that's left are a bunch of Origins levels. But though they're good, and their inclusion is really neat, I've already beat Rayman Origins, so I'm not particularly inclined to continue with them now that I've seen all the new content Rayman Legends has to offer.

Overall, I've had a fantastic time with Rayman Legends, but I wish it were longer. If you don't count the Origins levels in Legends, Rayman Origins has more levels overall. By a large margin, if I recall.

Still, I can't fault the time I did have with it. Few games get platforming this right. Rayman Legends is my first Wii U game, and I don't regret it.

EDIT: Oh wait, I forgot about the Invasion levels. I haven't done many of those. I might stick with them a while, but I'll be surprised if I finish them all.

This is one of those weird instances where both the game and a dumb achievement got me playing it as long as I have. I don't think I would have stuck with the daily challenges if it wasn't for that one absurd achievement... but there's no way I would grind that achievement out if the game wasn't as good and as fun as it is. Currently at 5,045 points... so I'm over halfway there, but it's still so far away. ;_;

I kind of wish the daily challenges included time trials on the regular levels. If they did, anyone who hit the final level of awesomeness could probably speedrun the game at that point.

I've got to a point now where I only play them for 10-15 minutes each. I can get silver on everything and I can usually get gold in the "get as far as you can" ones. But I have no interest in playing one stage repeatedly for an hour to get gold or a platinum. I'd rather hit my target as quick as possible and move on.
