I wouldn't recommend it.
What are your reasons for that?

Well, to be fair, I haven't finished it. I ran out of stream at something like 38 episodes in, it just wasn't doing it for me, even in the 2nd half.

I'm sure I'll finish it off one day.

well not really...yet

Raphxenon, Full Metal Panic, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I would go with Full Metal Panic first.

Since this is a recommendation thread, might as well ask. What would people recommend as a show similar to Eureka Seven? In regards to scope, character development, production values, and romance.
I'd watch Escaflowne if you haven't yet, and perhaps Turn A Gundam

I think that's the tail end of another bit of poor pacing in the series. Picks up and finishes strong from 39 on iirc.

+1 vote for GaoGaiGar here. I don't really think skipping episodes is necessary, but it is very monster-of-the-week for the first half.

There are sort of two major characters, Guy (the pilot) and Mamoru, who is a kid. However, he's one of the most tolerable little kids I've seen in mecha anime, and he holds his own rather than be reduced to rescue-fodder.

For bonus points, a purple transforming police car ninja robot is voiced by Kamina, and the main character (Guy) is voiced by Viral.

This is my favorite show of all time.

I also loved Turn A, and Zeta Gundam is awesome because of Quattro.

If you want Macross, I'd recommend starting with the Do You Remember Love movie. Macross Plus is also good. Macross 7 is my personal favorite, but plenty of people can't stand the main character.

I actually really loved Gunbuster because they dealt with some interesting implications of gravity and traveling near the speed of light, which puts it more in line with science fiction books I like to read. I didn't care for Diebuster because it moved away from that.

I have a soft spot for Blue Sub No.6 even though it isn't really mecha.

Shows I didn't really care for: Macross Frontier, Code Geass,
Gurren Lagann
.

This. Evangelion done right.

what... What?!?!??!?! MY head's gonna explode reading this thread, because some of these comments go far beyond terrible and just blast full steam ahead into crazytown!

OP has already seen Gurren Lagann, the magnum opus of Giant Robot Anime. I would agree that Giant Robo would be a good thing to watch next. Also I really should check out this GaoGaiGar show.

What's the problem? Rahxephon is a better anime then Evangelion, even if it drove on the road that eva paved. This is coming from someone who's first anime purchased with my own money was eva. VHS then DVD when it came out.

Big O, Bokurano and Giant Robo are all awesome. Especially Giant Robo, it should be watched by all!

anyone watched "Panzer World Galient" before? it's probably the father of low tech/sword fight mecha genre aka Escaflowne.

Watch RahXephon, not really into a lot of anime but that is one of my favorites.

The art and the music are amazing and the English dub was quality too.

Seriously though, the art is amazing.

Yeah, that was definitely an ill advised idea.

Yes that is annoying. It gets toned down later.

I still think everyone in this thread who hasn't seen Gunbuster needs to. I mean, it's only 6 episodes. And it's a classic.
If you're going to watch it for the first time... you have to remember it's the precursor to a lot of the modern anime themes, but it does it so much better than them even to this day.

Escaflowne, which IMO is much better than E7. Not everyone likes the character designs (dem noses), but it is very much a classic and does all those themes you're looking for extremely well.

I've known Donkey Show a long time, and would strongly suggest you ignore everything he says about anime at any time.

L-Gaim is pretty much the foundation for Five Star Stories as most designs were taken from there.

I watched Giant Robo. It's Big O + Naruto + X-men + AMAZING. I give it a magnificent ten.

[edit] RahXephon is ok... If you haven't already seen Evangelion.

haha just finished up Dancouga Nova which was super short and kinda meh. Felt super low budget, but I enjoyed the cast. hot headed characters in mech shows are the best ;P

Working on Eureka 7. Ep30 or so. Show is ramping up which I do hope it doesn't end badly in the 40's like pretty much every mech anime that are ~50 eps length.

Isn't that new gundam show coming out this fall? Seems 'different' in ways, but that's how 00 was at the beginning as well.

What would you guys recommend for someone who just enjoyed Pacific Rim? I also liked the old USA Robotech cartoon.

If you could suggest a few realistic oriented robot animes and where I can stream them Netflix? Thanks

I've seen pretty much all g gundam and up except Wing (characters just seem...meh). Code Geass. Nadesico (loved that one!). Gurren Lagann. Basquash (should count). Macross Frontier and the first macross film (haven't watched show yet). Evangelion and films.

Currently watching Eureka 7.

Real vs super doesn't matter to me. Only pref I have is that main character must mature to a badass SOMETIME during the show.

Patlabor.

Shin Mazinger Z.

Drop Eureka 7 because it won't fulfill your preference. Sorry, bro.

Wing is the best full Gundam series though.
