ReCore ReView thread

At least they were smart in realizing this was not a game that could justify a $60 price tag.

Also, the press and the marketing team have to let those Metroid Prime roots die. Armature has had its time to outgrow that shadow and they have failed. It really shouldn't be brought up again.

I kinda worry for them that if this game fails at retail that they'll basically wind up as a port specialist, and despite the stuff they've pulled off on the Vita, they have nowhere near the renown as the studio down the hall from them.

Seems like the PC version is the way to play. Quick loading and 60 fps. I remember someone in here saying the game didn't have footsteps in the sand but in that Giant Bomb video there clearly is?

Been watching some streams along with these reviews, seems like a fair game overall, nice art and some decent levels. Shame about the padding.

Any word if this is coming to Steam?

IF it does it won't be announced for some months/year. I personally don't think it will but who's to say. All we know now is that it is coming to Windows Store and so far from people who have played it, it runs well on there (at least in comparison to Xbox One).

Man, I hope this is another case where the negative reviews are off the mark, and the game turns out to be fun. I'll wait until more people here play it.

7.3 from IGN.

I didn’t expect ReCore to be quite as big as it is, and from the looks of things it’s possible its developers didn’t either. Its world, while interesting to explore for a good while, is ultimately too big with too little happening in it to be a totally serviceable housing for the strong combat and platforming gameplay within. It feels like a great, arcadey action platformer spread across too big a canvas, and it asks you to draw back over the same lines a few too many times

That's good news, UWP with Quantum Break left such a sour taste. I hope it comes to Steam eventually, but Play Anywhere is awesome.

'the heart of a PS2 or Gamecube-era platformer'

EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear. I'll take 20.

Despite all the negativity, that comment has me REALLY curious. In fact, a lot of the lower scored reviews said things that really tickle my fancy. I am down to give this a try when I buy an Xbone for the 4K player.

5/10 from metro gamecentral

In Short: What could have been a competent third person take on Metroid Prime is brought low by needless technical and design mistakes.

Pros: The movement and combat controls are excellent, and the various robots add a good amount of variety. Joule is a very likeable protagonist.

Cons: The mammoth load times become unbearable, especially towards the end, and the game’s sudden difficulty spike and flood of fetch quests. Bland art design.

Watching the 1080p gameplay steams like the one from Giant Bomb really makes me sad. All I can see is how shoddy the texture work is and how clunky the models and animations are. I could give those things a pass if the gameplay was adequately engaging but the snap-to shooting mechanics, tacked on crafting/RPG elements, combined with the multiple reports of end game padding (and yet still ends up being a SHORT game) just put me off on the whole thing.

Really disappointed. Here's hoping it ends up on Steam because if it does I'd be inclined to buy it on sale. But at the $40 price point? Compared to Ratchet & Clank at the same price point or the myriad of games on Steam between $30 and $40 with better production and graphical design? Can't really justify it.

This angle they're trying to push is really cringeworthy. I'm sure it was in some kind of PR mandate that the game has to compared to Metroid Prime. I'm not even sure I see the (supposed) Mega Man connections.

I think they mean Mega Man Legends???. Still, if you wanna push a game, I find that calling it so many different other games as an example is just straight up selling it short and they need to find something else to describe the game on it's own merits.

Not surprised TBH. There was a long eurogamer interview with the director on some youtube channel and his words about the development process included some not so encouraging words. Something about the game not being fun to play for a long time, and eventually they got it working. His demeanor put his words in a pretty negative light imo.

My IGN Italy review. Rated 7.5/10.0.

Liked the game, the control system and the exploration.

Disliked the loading times and some redundant areas.

Overall a very nice experience and a huge missed opportunity.

"ReCore is in the bottom 19.4% of games scored on OpenCritic"

Yikes.

I had been sort of looking forward to this, based on the original E3 presentation it looked neat. Not enough hours in the day to spend money on mediocrity though.

I'm buying it this weekend.

The pros are bigger than the cons which have been reported. And who knows, maybe a sequel will correct all addressed issues.

It's a big shame because I think there are clearly the makings of a pretty good game here. I think they needed a few things though. Bigger budget/development schedule - the game has clearly been rushed a bit and needed better combat mechanics with much tighter pacing in its second half. Better engine choice - the technical issues on the Xbox version just emphasise that they should have gone with Unreal. Unity should never have been considered for the sort of title this is.

I hope they continue to get work like this because the title looks promising if nothing else. It would be a waste if they were stuck doing ports forever.

Hopefully Nintendo approaches them for a similar styled game in the future. Or Sony. I can't really see a big western pub going to them, but maybe a big Japanese one would like Bandai Namco or Square Enix.

Seems like overall a good game with A few niggling problems , quantum break got similar scores and I loved the hell out of that game .

The majority of streamers playing the game are enjoying it. I'm super curious how grindy the final segments of the game are to warrant most of the game's divisive scores.
