Remember Me - Review Thread

Yeah, I'm not surprised. Played this for a few hours, was somewhat disappointed.
You're surrounded by this cool-looking city, but can't interact with it and are locked down along really linear paths. Battles tend to drag a bit as well.
Also, I found the memory remix parts to be more interesting in theory than in practice. Maybe I didn't try hard enough, but it mostly felt like watching a movie over and over again with some trial-and-error puzzle solving.

Remember Me- Cult classic eventually, forgettable today.

BioShock Infinite. 10/10 today, once the Doritos hype train derails, worse than Remember Me.

I think it's particularly shameful that IGN edited the review for content (not just grammar or some such) after being published. I don't think the OT should have the original quote altered.

I would say "Capcom game in failing to live up to the hype shocker!" but Capcom really do seem to have just sent this game out to die.

Shame. It looked okay as well. Will probably still pick up at some point.

I hope your confidence and will to not question the game before its released pays off.
The music, setting and premise look good to me. I can work with the combat if it's not all that great, kind of like Nier.

Awful because the review doesn't validate your preconceptions or because you think IGN writers write objectively poor reviews? I imagine your post would have been missing the latter part had the game gotten 8-10.
The latter. I'm not really a fan of IGN reviews period. Like UnlovedJew said, the reviewer made it seem like a 7-8 only to go, "The gameplay is kind of forgettable, so ignore everything good I said"

Not surprised, didn't look that great. The first trailer, and the ones that followed looked pretty sick, got me interested but once gameplay was shown, it lost my interest.

I don't really agree with that, the review made the game seem pretty average to me.

The IGN reviewer made it sound more like a 7 or an 8 rather than a 5.9 (which is just such an arbitrary score, by the way). I hate it when reviewers say that most of the game is lovely, but gameplay is slightly boring so let's ignore all the good things.

"I hate it when reviewers focus on the gameplay over the pretty graphics."

I'm not defending that review, but you aren't doing much better.

I don't put too much stock in what IGN thinks.

Metro (UK) Review:

In Short: Plenty of smart ideas and some very attractive presentation, but none of the core gameplay elements work as well as they should and the game ends up sadly forgettable.

Pros: Gorgeous art design and music creates a pleasingly exotic atmosphere. Sympathetic lead character and the core ideas behind the story, memory remixes, and combat are sound.

Cons: The combat is repetitive and the enemies bland, the platforming is simplistic, and the memory remixes too few in number and too reliant on trial and error. Languid pacing.

Score: 5/10

reminds me of that one game that takes place in the future....damn, whats it called, the one with the main character named Monkey...

Combat looks the same, and platforming was just as forced.

That amazes me. That and other reviews as well. Apart from the memory thingy, I seem to be reading a Tomb Raider review.

These reviews read like 'good game but we weren't payed enough.'

I'm buying it day one, a game with great ideas is worth playing.
C'mon now
You haven't even played the game yet
Most of the showings looked pretty boring
The concept was nice but the game didn't look all too great

Indeed, but when I think of average I would think of 6-7 (this probably varies depending on perception, so I'm using my self as an example). Dude pretty much said, "Everything works/responds well, and it has cool ideas but it's not too exciting and the combat isn't so hot. So here's a nice 5.9!"

Not trying to make it seem like it should have been a 10/10 but the reviewer didn't make it seem like a 5.9.

It seems to be one of those games that have visionary ideas that are torn down by mediocre execution. But in a few years when every games has these ideas the small group of people who played the game will go all "Remember Me had this first".

The name of the game could't be more fitting though :P

Like i had mentioned in another thread here at Neogaf..this game "remember me" will be prophetic in a few ways, yeah im being a bit silly in saying that but i can see games of the future utilize some of this game's idea's to a better effect and i can see real life actually becoming a lot like what this game is...well that may be going out on a long limb but hey..im still stoked for this game. IGN..they are nothing but inconsistent with reviews.

What's amazing?

The review says they think they nailed the art design but the gameplay isn't good. Why would it get a good review if they think the biggest part of the game isn't very good?

The game sounds like a 7 but IGN occasionally needs to demonstrate they are capable of scoring an average game with an average score.

IGN is the go to for bro gamers and they know teir target audience I won't believe then. GiantBomb on the other hand is one I care about. Edge too.

Big ideas abound in Remember Me but it fails to make the most of them. Cult classic one day but forgettable today.
See? They don¿t liek it cause it's not a blockbuster

Ouch. I like reading David Jenkins reviews. I haven't always agreed with him but he's usually on the money

Cult classic but forgettable? That literally makes no sense.

Years from now, people are going to respect the gameplay innovations and unique artsyle. Everything negative will be ignored, while everything positive will be exaggerated beyond belief.

In the meantime, gamers are just going to focus on its boring gameplay, until one day this mediocre title is hailed by nostalgists as art.

IGN review now edited to say "Big ideas abound in Remember Me, creating an intriguing, beautiful world but the game itself is very forgettable."

Never expected this to be a sleeper hit, what was Capcom thinking, introducing a new IP just when a new gen is about to start. I'm still interested though, will get it once its cheap or go ps+.

I missed a few words in my previous post, doesn't make lots of sense.

What I meant is, the thing amazing to me is that what I read here and there are things that I could have written (and that I have said) from TR. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look like this RM game is very good, I agree with that. I was just thinking about the context of things, how TR being a AAA and stuff had be considered differently on the same exact points that RM is being considered atm.

But I don't want to derail this thread so I'll leave it at that. Because overall, I don't care about reviews and grades. Or I wouldn't have enjoyed my time on Mirror's Edge or Alpha Protocol.
