I remember the old Neogaf being just as intolerant as Resetera is today. People were reportedly banned for having the "wrong" opinions. Because of the massive amount of content that’s put out almost daily. It’s definitely the place to be for good ole fashioned gaming discussion. Even niche games usually have an active thread.

Which is exactly like old Neogaf, and why conservatives went to 4chan instead. Funnily enough, the moderation on /v/ is more intolerant today (after the channel change) than here on Neogaf. This place here reminds me of how Gamefaqs was in the mid 00s.

I think it already is hurting the forum badly. Lots of great posters have left or stopped posting, activity is down, and discussions are constantly stifled or derailed over the most inane and deranged identity politics bullshit. It's still a big forum and there are quality posters over there for sure, but the inquisition can only escalate. Posters who have safe opinions today will be tomorrow's heretics.

Owner had trusted the mods and admins to be the custodian while they arguably took a backseat. At the end of the day, like most of us if you had a bit of bank and opportunities to travel, I'm sure most would take it. Have a look at the new owner at Resetera - he's presiding over just as many (if not more) bullshit bans, many illustrated here, twitter and the farms banbot.

So most of the community decided they no longer wanted to be part of a community like that and decided to create a new site, with new mods and new admins. A co-ordinated effort took place where they basically DDoSed this site as it was on pretty old software, posted porn, invalid accusations across the internet which were signal boosted by certain game media outlets and if you so much as said 'hold up' you were labelled as misogynist, alt-right, rapist apologists and so forth.

Anyway - coincidentally or not - resetera appeared on the exact software version etc. that had been on the project plan for GAF (apparently by various statements), the community that decided it was fed up of itself all migrated to this new site. At first they all pretended it was Utopia and some people who thought the whole thing was a sham, decided on principle to stay here and try to rebuild an actual new community. Not content with that, the campaign of hate persisted (and still does) against anyone who posts here being called sexists, alt-right and any other headline title. They left here declaring themselves full of virtue and the 'good ones' yet every day they embarass themselves. They have had like two mod team, and most are far, far worse than anything on GAF. The semi decient mods who make an attempt to shape a community are cycled out. Have a look at the names who have survived the staff recycles and you'll see a pattern with those so desperate to cling to power that they'd never 'step down' or admit they were wrong/complicit in any wrongdoing.

GAF is back to what it was years ago and it's recovered a lot though it might not seem it. There are still good people on era that are there simply because of the quick aggregation which is fair enough, but more and more are returning and it's really nice to see. A lot of people have stuck round here and though we only rub shoulders in passing you can see a genuine attempt to build a community that sort of looks after itself - and the new mods/admins largely keep out that side which is perfect. Sure, sometimes I see shit and think wtf, but read through the thread and the exchange of ideas takes place. Era by contrast is like soem weird digital watseland rife with expurgation. Their motto is basically "don't @ me - just let me babble my ill informed views without contestation because I'm terrified of having to explain my views under a microscope of actual debate"

GAF maybe was more intolerant than today because most mods were the mods from ERA.
But ResetERA is in another level of intolerance.

To be fair ERA biggest issues is how the community has preconceptions and anybody that didn't have them is asked to get out from there.
In their bubble they become racists, sexists, sociopoliticalists (exists?), etc etc etc.

I hope this drops even more. I cut my visiting down by like 90%. Just need to keep the gaming content current here and the moderation needs to stay how it is. To be fair, i visited neogaf for the first time following the controversy. So im one of those who stuck around necessarily. I was an avid IGN forum member...but then decided to look for a more refined experience. Neogaf has definitely provided that. I feel at home here, i check the site everyday, multiple times a day, looking for the next hot debate topic.

Got to be honest, the only reason I moved ship to there was because of how populated the gaming forum was, and this place did seem to dry up when the exodus happened. However, I now come to realise, that this site has pretty much the most important gaming discussions going on anyway, and most of the additional chatter there, is either repeated content or frivolous anyway.

I rarely posted there - I was mainly active in the TV thread for crying out loud, and politically I am pretty much as far left as you can get, so banning isn't tied to your politics. The moderation there is terrible, at least in the off topic sub-forum - I mean, I was banned for suggesting that Ricky Gervais openly mocks marginalised groups, because he has admitted that no topic is off limits in his opinion, when it comes to comedy. I was merely repeating what he said, and copped a ban for it. I realise now, that they are actively targeting trans threads and overcompensating, because they were called out for their pathetic attitudes in the past towards such marginalised community threads on there, and even indeed the whole pedo controversy, which no doubt again caused more of a clampdown on moderation, but I really don't have the patience to walk on eggshells with every post I make, so fuck them.

In regards the admin - I can't even get perma-banned. I've repeatedly contacted them requesting it, and even the removal of my account (which their own t&cs says is possible), but so far all I have managed is a one-week ban extension. They can't even get that right. Utter incompetents. It is a shame though, as there are good members on there, for sure, and dev contributions always welcomed in the gaming forum.

Interestingly enough when it started devs were already complaining and making jokes about Reset, the guys who made devs leave gaf weren't going to go to a place worse than what Gaf was, with the same people that made them leave and then some, and what's funny is even now the most relevant people from the industry there is one NPD guy and 343 dev Stinkles, oh, and Dark10 but he's here as well.

Basically, someone made an accusation against the site owner which was unfounded and unevidenced (and still is). Then some people dragged up some juvenile shit from years ago that most of the community already knew. The community was already at breaking point because of all the bullshit bans and bias moderating like you mention. Owner had trusted the mods and admins to be the custodian while they arguably took a backseat. At the end of the day, like most of us if you had a bit of bank and opportunities to travel, I'm sure most would take it. Have a look at the new owner at Resetera - he's presiding over just as many (if not more) bullshit bans, many illustrated here, twitter and the farms banbot.

So most of the community decided they no longer wanted to be part of a community like that and decided to create a new site, with new mods and new admins. A co-ordinated effort took place where they basically DDoSed this site as it was on pretty old software, posted porn, invalid accusations across the internet which were signal boosted by certain game media outlets and if you so much as said 'hold up' you were labelled as misogynist, alt-right, rapist apologists and so forth.

Anyway - coincidentally or not - resetera appeared on the exact software version etc. that had been on the project plan for GAF (apparently by various statements), the community that decided it was fed up of itself all migrated to this new site. At first they all pretended it was Utopia and some people who thought the whole thing was a sham, decided on principle to stay here and try to rebuild an actual new community. Not content with that, the campaign of hate persisted (and still does) against anyone who posts here being called sexists, alt-right and any other headline title. They left here declaring themselves full of virtue and the 'good ones' yet every day they embarass themselves. They have had like two mod team, and most are far, far worse than anything on GAF. The semi decient mods who make an attempt to shape a community are cycled out. Have a look at the names who have survived the staff recycles and you'll see a pattern with those so desperate to cling to power that they'd never 'step down' or admit they were wrong/complicit in any wrongdoing.

GAF is back to what it was years ago and it's recovered a lot though it might not seem it. There are still good people on era that are there simply because of the quick aggregation which is fair enough, but more and more are returning and it's really nice to see. Got to be honest, the only reason I moved ship to there was because of how populated the gaming forum was, and this place did seem to dry up when the exodus happened.

I was here after when 50 people were on lol. But I think a lot of people who stayed looked at as if a party was thrown here and now it was time to clean up the mess. I was never happy as to what happened, but I can't say I wasn't happy that the trouble makers left.

I mean yeah, DJKhaled was an obvious troll, but the posters and staff there take any marginalized concerns at face value no matter how absurd. And then there's the threat of suicide there, which I'm fairly certain the site is supposed to take every single one seriously regardless of how viable it is.

Lots of us consider that he was a troll, my conspiracy theory is that he got so much attention for that account and more than he planned that the "backstory" was over complicated and inconsistent. So he nuked it planning to start a new one for 2020 that will play to the strength of the DJkhled account by just being trans and suicidal. That or he actually was a fucking nutter.

I remember the old Neogaf being just as intolerant as Resetera is today. People were reportedly banned for having the "wrong" opinions. You couldn't register using a free mail address because they wanted to keep a kind of elite society. And now this is one of the most tolerant gaming forums on internet and anyone can register. Yet the owner has been here all the time. What's up with that? That's what I don't understand.

Best way to summarize it is resetera was the cancer that was cut from gaf

As shitty as it sounds their failed coup to take over here and them creating resetera was a blessing as it has meant we have a real level headed forum now and that cancer can stay over there

People are already starting to realise what has actually occurred and have came back over and others will likely join them

I rarely posted there - I was mainly active in the TV thread for crying out loud, and politically I am pretty much as far left as you can get, so banning isn't tied to your politics. The moderation there is terrible, at least in the off topic sub-forum - I mean, I was banned for suggesting that Ricky Gervais openly mocks marginalised groups, because he has admitted that no topic is off limits in his opinion, when it comes to comedy. I was merely repeating what he said, and copped a ban for it. I realise now, that they are actively targeting trans threads and overcompensating, because they were called out for their pathetic attitudes in the past towards such marginalised community threads on there, and even indeed the whole pedo controversy, which no doubt again caused more of a clampdown on moderation, but I really don't have the patience to walk on eggshells with every post I make, so fuck them.
