I was referring to the protests re "the new characters dont hold a handle to the original ones." imo the character models of remake are leagues better than the original ones, in all regards onc art style.
As for the game itself, the remake has better environments, pacing, less silly puzzles, heck everything is better, as it should be all these years later.
The following is ofc my own humble opinion but here goes. Rose tinted glasses can play with our visions. Recently I re-watched the original terminator. Before I did so in my mind T1 held its own vs T2, the sequel. Hell no, whilst the original started it all, compared to its sequel it falls flat in so many areas like effects and acting. So in a nutshell, old memories cannot and should not be trusted lol.
Well, you're "humble opinion" isn't very humble when you squeeze in the "rose-tinted goggles" argument as an attempt to invalidate someone else's opinion,
I think even the most hardcore RE2make fans will admit that the scenarios were handled far better in the original than in the remake. In general, the story in the original RE2 was more complete and paced better with a stronger, more satisfying ending. The game took the time to build up your first meeting with Birkin. Not only do we meet Sherry who is running from a monster (who we later find out is Birkin), not only do we hear his roars throughout the RPD, not only do we see Irons (or Ben) get torn apart by a g-spawn first, but Birkin's theme is heard subtly throughout the soundtrack in the various bg tracks played throughout the RPD. The remake has no build up or subtlety. Birkin just drops down on you with no build up, Chief Irons is immediately a crazed, cartoon villain, and the soundtrack no longer has any meaning.
Then of course, we see Leon and Claire actually team up to save Sherry rather than Leon meeting her for the first time on the train. Heck, even Ada had a key connection to Sherry, finding her pendant, leading Annette to think she killed Sherry for it. It makes the climax feel way more satisfying. In general, seeing the other side of the story by played the B scenarios is pretty great.
As far as the environments go, I really love how the remake handled the RPD, but there is never a moment as powerful as coming out of the sewers to see this the marshaling yard. It's one of the most atmosphere moments in the series. The remake was missing something like that, especially after extending the sewer section.
I think the city was handled much better in the original as well because it gives you time to see the chaos, but also wander the empty streets to see how hopeless things are before entering the RPD. Much more effective than what the remake had to offer, imo.
And the lab. So much better in the original. No contest.
Still love the remake. Amazing game--one of my favorites this gen, but it fails as a remake in my opinion. REmake is a much better example of how to reimagine a game while still keeping the spirit of the original, as well as adding content over removing content (but that's a whole different discussion).
