Resident Evil 5 to see some changes to the camera?
By Keza MacDonald - 23/08/2006 - 12:54pm GMT

Snippets of info from Leipzig suggest that some changes are being made to the over-the-shoulder camera.

Pro-G's intrepid wonder-reporters in Leipzig have gleaned a little snippet of information about Resident Evil 5 from Capcom's Jun Takeuchi (the interview was supposed to be about Lost Planet, but we just couldn't resist). Takeuchi-san confirmed that the game will indeed use the third-person perspective utilised in Resi 4, but it will also have a perhaps surprising measure of the new - although he refused to be specific, Tekeuchi happily recounted how production staff at Capcom had groaned "Oh god, he's gone and invented ANOTHER one" at each of Mikami's ideas for the new instalment. Promising indeed.

Takeuchi also went all uncomfortable and apologetic when we asked him about Resident Evil Wii, saying he didn't know if there would be one. Although when we put our puppy-dog eyes on, he did at least concede that there might be a teensy chance of seeing such a game. We're taking that as a promise, and if we don't see a Resi Wii eventually we're going to call him up and cry down the phone.

In other words, I'll doubt we see any Resident Evil Wii version soon :(

strange. RE Wii was on a press release in which Capcom pledged full support for Wii...

Meh. RE5 is enough for me..

i call bullshit, capcom had this as one of their wii games for E3 and the possiblities that you can have with a resident evill wii are endless. as long as the use res evil 4 engine i will be happy

Probably got confused somewhere in the translation and he thought they were asking about a Wii version of RE5.

Resident Evil Wii is already confirmed.

yes they did, but they have never spoken about it...wonder if it's canned or something.

DAMNIT DAMNIT DAAMNNITT!

I had my fanboy eyes on, and came in expecting info about RE5. Reading Ftw.

Anyhow, that would suck if we doesn't get any RE love.

huh?

nintendo put re wii in some list of games circa e3, but comments from capcom staff -- and not just this one -- seem to indicate that re wii isn't something they're currently developing. remember that old interview in which some capcom guy said that they wanted to do something else on wii before they attempted resident evil?

"The next-generation console Wii is garnering much attention with its groundbreaking new controller. The new Resident Evil game for the console will combine the series' intense gaming experience and atmosphere with the revolutionary control system of the Wii," Capcom said in an official statement.

It's not like it was just a random game on a release list which may or may not exist, they actually commented on it.

I assume that something got lost in translation, or he's joking, because the E3 press release is about as official as you can get:

Resident Evil, the Survival Horror King, is coming to Nintendo's Wii™!
Capcom Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that the development of a new game in the Resident Evil franchise is underway for Nintendo's next-generation Wii system.

The Resident Evil series, which began in 1996, has helped to propel the survival horror genre into the mainstream. The series has shipped over 30 million units (as of March 31st, 2006) and continues to entertain fans worldwide.

The intense story and cutting-edge graphics have combined to create a deep gaming world that has even been expanded into non-gaming media such as the Hollywood movie series of Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse, each earning over 100 million dollars at the box-office. The most recent game in the series, Resident Evil 4, has been honored with the Award of Excellence at the 9th CESA Game Awards and the Game of the Year Award at the 1st Famitsu Awards, further demonstrating the worldwide recognition of the game's top-notch quality.

The next-generation console Wii is garnering much attention with its groundbreaking new controller. The new Resident Evil game for the console will combine the series' intense gaming experience and atmosphere with the revolutionary control system of the Wii.

As always, Capcom will continue to strive to produce great new game titles and expand its appeal to a broader audience across the globe.

About Capcom
As a worldwide leader in the gaming industry, Capcom is on the forefront of this new cutting-edge technology, and is proud to have produced a number of hit products such as Mega Man, Street Fighter, Onimusha, Devil May Cry and Resident Evil. Capcom will continue to provide customers with the best possible forms of innovative entertainment in this new and exciting media.

I think the issue has to be that he's apologetically saying that the game "Resident Evil 5" will not appear on Wii, a statement we were already quite sure of and which does not necessarily reflect on the release of an independent and distinct "Resident Evil Wii" game.

I'm guessing the development team isnt too enthusiastic about a Wii version ("went all uncomfortable and apologetic"). But the guys in suits r demanding there be Wii version of Resi

I would really like to see a direct sequel to RE4 where Leon and whats-her-skirt return home and she infects her father with los plagas or whatever and then Leon has to take down an infected US government and with the White House as the last act.

Not ONE single capcom game has been announced yet. WTF is up with that.

Except RE.

Even then. we just have know that a "RE" installement will be on the wii. We don't even know if it's part of the main series. I HOPE it's not dead aim. The smartest thing to do is re-use the RE4 engine and add waggle support.

Also, concerning the wait for TGS, that means we'll just get announcements there.. No Capcom titles for the wii for at least a year. That sucks, i love Capcom.

Are the possibilities for a Resident Evil on the Wii anything like the posibilities for a RE on the DS? Because that worked out really well and if that's the case, I can't wait to see what they pull off on the Wii!

Even if there is a RE Wii, it's probably been relegated to one of Capcom's B teams since all the A staff are working on projects for either 360 or PS3.

I am telling you guys, Capcom's mindset is like a pregnant woman. They have the most ****ed up mood swings.

Last gen they supported PS2 and Gamecube (RE4 porting to PS2 confirms another moodswing) but ignored Xbox. Now they are supporting Xbox 360, the PS3, and completely not giving a shit about Wii.

I wouldn't worry about it. Even the Capcom 5 (good times) weren't announced until a year into the GC's life, I'm sure they'll have some more Capcomy goodness for us.

Capcom also said there's no way in hell RE4 would end up on PS2.

no they didn't, Mikami did. Mikami had zero knowledge of the upcoming port and was fed up with everyone asking about it when he was sure in his own mind that Capcom didn't have any plans for it. to stop everyone asking the same questions over and over he gave the "cut-off-head" comment.

How much did that sell for on ebay?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi said the game was exclusive, and he was the head honcho to RE4. So yes, "Capcom" said the game was exclusive -- at that point in time.

IGN also did interviews with Capcom who stated it was exclusive.
