That's was the whole point, though, step away from the convoluted mess that RE plot became.
Anyway, how RE5 resolve most of the connected links to past RE was totally insatisfactory for me, that's another reason why it's worse.

The files are just there to fill the holes (more like blackholes) in the plot.

Oh, I enjoy them too, but Umbrella and whatever new virus is/was being collected by Wesker randomly is not fundamental to that enjoyment. RE5 however had too much of a ridiculous story to enjoy, that's why I'm always bemused when it's being lauded over RE4's hilarious script.
I just want Wesker in, in one form or another. Even if he's just in mercs again that would be fine with me.
And Jill.
Not going to disagree with this, but discovering that Umbrella's true goals were not, as previously assumed, to make a shitload of money by nefarious means, but were rather to force evolution so that only Wesker and his brothers survived while everyone else was turned into a mass of writhing black noodles, was on a level with the worst JRPG plot for stupid plot twist and definitely a low point for the main series.

Despite gripes about RE5(and much lesser extent RE4) Im just hyped for RE6. Feels like it's been too long already. It would be nice to have a rouge version of Umbrella back in some form or another. And add a NEW formidable villain you care about like Wesker, too

I don't really see the CoD or even Gears stuff. It just seems like their going in the direction they were last time. If they'd just now gone from REmake to RE6, I'd see the parallel, but you could cut RE5 to look very very similar to that trailer really, other than multiple characters, which is a series staple.
That post of his wasn't defecating on CoD though. It just shows that CoD is the holy grail of popularity now.

Jill is in Revelations. She was also in RE5, Mercs 3D, RE3, and RE1/REmake. Also, Umbrella Chronicles.
If you look at Chris, it's similar. He's in Revelations. He was also in RE5, Mercs 3D, Code Veronica, RE1/REmake and Umbrella Chronicles.
These characters already have a lot of non-bullshit representation in the series. Leon, for example, has plenty of representation, but look at this:
Leon is in RE4, RE2, RE: Degeneration (a movie that no one cares about), Operation Raccoon City (where he plays the dumb role of the guy you want to kill), and Darkside Chronicles. Oh, and RE: Gaiden which nobody cares about or wants to remember.
In terms of the main Resident Evil cast, I hope for there being no trace of Jill in RE6 and I was originally hoping for no trace of Chris either. We've had enough of these characters already in the RE games that actually matter. I definitely want more underrepresented characters like Barry and Rebecca in RE6 as well but I doubt I will get them so I won't keep my hopes up. I like that Leon was included because he deserves to be in another game that people actually care about, even though he's already been represented a lot across the franchise and is in the arguably best game in the series (RE4).
Claire is similar. I'd take her over more Chris or Jill as well. Again, she's made multiple appearances but only two of them are really worth a damn.
So in short, I don't see how anyone could want MORE Jill in RE6, and I don't see how anyone could not be disappointed in MORE Chris considering that these characters are already overly represented in the series and are actually the main characters of a new full-fledged RE game that's releasing in a matter of days.
Leon, Claire, Ada, Barry, Rebecca. This is what people should want to see!

I think Jill will definitely be announced later, along with Ada. Jill being in Revelations and being the predominant character in that game will ensure that Jill gets the backseat again in RE6, but I think she'll be there.

This looks like they added the ability to move while shooting, something RE has needed for a WHILE, but I still get a bad feeling it'll be decent at best.

RE CV is the obvious one really.
If it was an Ubisoft game, that would be guaranteed. But it doesn't happen to all big games.

RE fans are nothing compared to Zelda fans. Zelda fans as a whole can't even agree which are the best games and which are the worst. RE has a general consesus in terms of which ones they liked and didn't like. Also, some enjoy the plot there's nothing wrong with that. Even though the dialogue is really cheesy and there are some inconsistencies. However, regardless of whether RE4 was intentionally cheesy or not, you can't argue Capcom and even Mikami put a strong emphasis on the story. They wouldn't have created as complex of a plot with RE4 or written all of those files and created backstories for tons of characters throughout the game if they didn't care about the plot or didn't take it seriously. Still there's nothing really crazy about RE fans. It is a pretty typical GAF response to judge the entire game by a three minute trailer.Do you mean I'm delusional or they are?

There also seems to be some cross contamination with the godawful films. If so it looks like the cats out of the bag now, and we're moving into post apocalyptic territory. So without a reboot if it continues along this line from a story stand point there's maybe one more game. Which I guess will be Leon as a Mad Max/Omega Man/Children of Men type as he escorts some chick across the wasteland to the last human city.
I meant, the post you quoted was me referring to the second half of his post about the carnival of stupid, not the top half about RE:R, after he stated the two things were not connected.
