Interesting. I thought the Baker's did go crazy and violent after Eveline appears.
Correct for everybody but Lucas.

who asked ethan to come to the house anyways? he said he got a message from mia right, but then early on in the game she says "that wasn't me"
Its never said. The message we saw was for him to "stay away"

E-mail in inventory at the start of the game.

E-mail in inventory at the start of the game. I guess it's implied that there were directions or an address. And of course Ethan never saw the "Stay away" message.
I totally ignored that and didn't read it. Anything worthwhile or note-worthy in it?
Am I the only one that feels this game shouldn't have Resident Evil on the title because the connections made with the previous game or lets say universe is pretty fucking weak. It would have been a stronger game without RE on it. I mean don't get me wrong, it's a damn great game but it feels like having RE just creates expectations and shit.

It's probably not Chris dude.
What the theory for Ethan being an Umbrella Agent? I've only started the game but I give no fucks about spoilers.
So After finishing the game, I can say this is probably the best Resident Evil title so far, also it is so full of fan service that I was losing my mind. Here are quite some interesting things -probably covered in the +50 page but what the hell-:
During the start of the game in the dinner room, you can read a file signed by O'brien, hinting at a connection to Revelations, then the molded appear which resemble the Ooze then the mutated weaponized arm molded and it came clear to me that this is somehow connected to the T-Abyss virus. of course I came to know that this is a different strain, but I think the connection is valid.
The ship sequence bares an uncanny resemblance to Queen Zonobia, especially looking at the navigation cabin (?), so similar to a crazy degree and generally the inside looked so similar too.
At the end during the fight with Mia's ghost, I felt homage to The Hook Man from RE3.5, I found it to be very cool, and it took me by surprise, too bad it didn't cause any damage.
The ending scene with the operatives reminded me of RE2 opening where they came in to collect the G-Virus sample. The helicopter scene with Ethan and Mia surviving also felt like reliving the moment of escape from the Mansion with Chris and Jill. The Umbrella new logo, now that was a big surprise I couldn't wrap my ahead around, yet was so awesome.
Overall this was a crazy good Survival Horror game.
The director also worked on Revelations, so your links aren't really that strange to make. Although disappointing as I abhor Revelations.
There's more subtle things too at work I feel - the crows on the door, the crank, the lantern weight thing was straight out of a classic RE game. The whole "feel" was just there.
I really liked the dream sequence but I didn't really understand where it occurred?
At the time both Jack and Zoe had already been turned into stone and splintered into bits, effectively killing them as far as I understand. Does the sequence mean they're not really dead after all or is it just supposed to be some kind of remainder of the Bakers mental image? In any case, Marguerite died the same way, so why wasn't she there with them?
It's just a dummy, dude.
A very creepy fucked up dummy.
Old Eveline appearances
I think I got them all. No idea why she spawns underneath the house, because she only appears in that location after getting the keycard from the Workshop.
She appeared in the boiler room before the Dissection room when Lucas asks you to get the item from the cop's throat. That part really caught me off guard because I was sprinting like crazy there, cause I was expecting the couple of molded there that would be there otherwise.

Almost done with my first play through. Is there enough of a difference in the Zoe v Mia choice to play through as the other? Jack wasn't that hard but it was a bit of an annoyance to have to fight again just to get a slightly different storyline.

Granny Eveline humming 'Go Tell Aunt Rhody' was a nice little touch. Her just stopping when I got close to her kinda freaked me out.
When Jack is chasing you around the house, she can be seen in the crow room through the window, 2F recreation room side.
There's a picture of that in the post already.
Lol this ain't Metal Gear yo
Did anyone notice that Marguerite is having a conversation with someone in the yard early on in the game? I thought it was weird background noise from my house but then realised it was actually her. She then walks away (slowly) towards the old house.
Did anyone catch what she says? You can see her from the balcony thing near the rec room on the second floor of the main house.
Granny Eve was infected with foxdie tho
Yeah that's done really well. Not only that, but she resumes AFTER you walk past her. Then of course most people will just turn around to see her actually singing. And bam she's gone.
Kinda nuts how much just her presence amped up the tension. I always wanted to get a closer look at her but was too scared she'd jump at me through a jump scare. I like that Capcom really kept it pretty tame on that front. It kept things a bit tenser when it came to her appearances.
I really like how all of the jump scares are subdued, sound-wise. Maybe a piano or something, but rarely, if ever, a really loud noise like in the movies or Outlast.
The old Evie crying blood and asking why everyone hated her actually got an emotional response out of me.
I don't think there was a single "cheap" jump scare in the entire game. They were all well done from what I can remember.
The one where Marguerite throws you away from the door with the Crow Key was ruined for me by some footage they released, though. Didn't get me at all since I was expecting it.
I thought everything related to eveline was the worst aspect of the game. Not counting when she was just in the wheelchair and would pop up randomly in throughout the game. That was fine. But starting at the ship to the end of the game felt like a train going off the rails.
Agreed. Even that jumpscare was actually pretty effective if you didn't expect it. I elaborated why in another thread, here:I don't think there was a single "cheap" jump scare in the entire game. They were all well done from what I can remember.

The devs should also be applauded for how masterfully crafted the horror elements are in this game. Before executing a jumpscare, the game builds up the tension continuously. Many areas make players go "nope!" just by how unnerving they look, whether it be pitch black, dilapidated or covered in mold. You know a jumpscare is coming, you can feel the tension building, but the path only leads one way. You prepare for it, but when it hits, it does so really well. The best example I can think of isMarguriete immediately before her mutated fight. I was preparing myself to go up the stairs, knowing full well that shit was about to go down, but when it happened, I screamed like a girl.
In addition, the game attempts to toy with players' expectations. Again, bringing upMarguriete. Prior to the first fight, she only wanders a specific corridor, so after escaping her and fitting through the narrow gap, you're given a false sense of security, but surprise, she's behind the corner.
But I feel the most effective ones are the sequences without loud jumpscares, it's the ones where tension is constantly building as you explore..The dark rooms in the old house is the best example
So, what do you guys think? Agree or disagree? Personally, I think this is by far the scariest Resident Evil has ever been in its 20 years history.
I don't know any horror stories that make good use of evil children. it's always my least favorite part about them.
The Shining does it right I guess. and I hear babadook is okay with it? never saw that

The only section I can applaud capcom on is the kids room after you get the lantern from margarette. That was done extremely well. Only time where I was like "I think capcom might have this horror thing down". Too bad that was the only moment in the game that was executed well from a true horror angle. The rest of the game did hold a tense atmoshpere however due to the controls and speed of movement. When either Jack or Margarette are chasing you (Even if it is rather easy to get away) is a lot of fun.
With RE7, it's an obvious case of going back to basics with the story. Things just got so overdramatic and obtuse by the time RE6 happened, that even though fairly Louisiana bog-standard, giving fans something straightforward and derivative (though with intentional influence nods) is... well things could be worse.
