I assume it was taken not long before Ethan arrives. Also, don't forget that granny Eveline was in the photo on the TV's with the clown during the Happy Birthday segment.

I wonder who that clown was by the way? At first I thought it could have been that person who Lucas locked up in the attic?

So at the beginning, right after releasing Mia, she says that the family used to bring her food this way. I have to wonder why it was used in a past context. Did Lucas isolate her and not tell the family about it? Shouldn't Evelyn know since she is tapped into Mia and everyone else infected? I know I read something about Lucas separating her from Evelyn and her not caring, or something like that.

I tell ya, this game is full of tragic victims that you first think are simply evil, and I absolutely love it! It gives them some nice depth and you actually do feel sorry for them. It strengthens the story greatly.

Eveline - Completely screwed up by an evil corporation that wanted the ultimate bioweapon. All she really wanted was to be loved. She didn't know any better. : (

Jack and Marguerite - Just two normal people until they stumbled upon a damaged ship and took in what they believed was an innocent girl that survived.

Mia - I even felt a little sorry for Mia. I got the impression that the job she had got way out of control and she regretted how it all spiraled out of control.

It's damn tragic! They totally took the sympathetic Lisa Trevor angle from REmake and ran with it.

I still find it extremely difficult to believe that's the real Chris Redfield in the ending. It just doesn't make any sense. And clearly that was Capcom's intention.

A more appropriate way to have done this would be for the Chris we know to have made an appearance, with different dialogue that doesn't have him explicitly mentioning his name.

When I was returning to find the Snake Key inside the cop, I was running because I knew exactly where to go. But then the fact she just pops up in the Boiler Room before the Dissection Room.

I just froze in place. It's crazy, I know she doesn't do anything. But I still froze.

The first time this happened to me and I saw her there up on a floor right after some stairs, I muted my PC. once i walked past her and figured out everything was alright, I unmuted, but still goddamn

I didn't give two shits.
Thought that scene had no reason to be added. You could've pushed that angle better by having a video tape or something. There was already enough hints in the game that they were obviously normal people at one point. Just not a fan of stuff like this pushed on the player.

Definitely suspected that they were just normal people as the game totally telegraphs to you throughout the environment and some dialogue, but I still thought it was a great moment to actually interact with Jack as his regular self.

Would a video of jack donating to charity have been more effective for you? because while i could see that, that seems like it'd "push on the player" even more than what they went for

I think a VHS Tape of say the family while they were normal and taking care of Mia/eveline before the infection got to far would've been better. I originally thought that was what the happy Birthday Tape was going to be.

I disagree, while yes it easy to think they were normal at one point, we didn't knew about their personalities. For all we know they could have been some crazy psychopaths even before they got infected. The scene makes me like Jack even more.

That's why I said a VHS Tape showing them as regular people would have been more viable than just dumping it all on the player in some weird flash back. Or maybe even seeing the bakers while fighting them sort of go back and forth, where they're able to fight control of it for just a little bit.

I just really dislike "hey we were actually good, feel pity on us" when it's shoved right in your face. Especially in such an odd way. Like Nemesis said if it had maybe at least been done while jack was dying, that probably would have worked better too.

side note: I got frustrated on the Happy Birthday tape and couldn't figure out the solution, so I ended the video tape just about after I found the doll and didn't know what to do with it. So while I love the game, I was looking forward to playing a different last act with Zoe, what a dissapointment, that choice is ridiculous now, and the fact you still play as mia and she teleports to the wrecked ship is bullshit.

Is this true? I thought he was under Evie's influence (infected) since he grows his hand back that was cut off. Everyone there is infected. At one point when watching a tape before you enter his party house he tells Evie to "shut up" meaning he is seeing her appear to a degree and is influenced by her

Lucas was given a serum by someone, I can't remember who, either the new Umbrella or their competitor, to resist the mind control of the infection. He was still infected, with all the benefits (ie. regeneration) but was not able to be controlled by her.

So maybe I missed something crucial along the way, but was it ever stated if Ethan was in the early process of getting infected and actually had some degree of the virus during the events of the game? Reason I ask is because having watched gameplay online, I didn't get the moment after the dinner scene where Ethan's foot gets cut off should Jack attack you and Ethan can somehow reconnect it very easily with first aid. Could that be why his hand was also seemingly reconnected without worrying about muscle/nerves/bones etc? Maybe that's just bullshit Capcom writing, but then again given the December demo had the player-character get infected at the end should you get hit by the Molded - and the fact Ethan shows no signs of infection after taking damage from said creatures - I'm more inclined to believe he had somehow benefited from Eveline's virus minus the negative symptoms that came with it.

I'm also leaning more towards the argument Ethan is/was in fact an Umbrella agent/employee sent to either investigate his partner's disappearance or possibly cover the whole thing up. Whether or not Mia is part of Umbrella or a rival company altogether is another thing. His ease of use with weapons also tends to suggest he's been trained with firearms; I also like the idea that he pretended to be scared/innocent/desperate to the Deputy so as to not blow his cover.

All just speculation and as stated could very well just be plot-holes in Capcom writing, but this has indeed been one of the better post-game debates I like having about the lore and whatnot.

There was something really weird about him picking up both serums. Zoe yells "Hey, I need one of those!", and he needs to give one for Mia, but if he wasn't affected, why did he originally take both?

It seems like there is a hive mind element to the virus where infectee's are in a sort of limbo. Because Marguerite and Mia calcified and fell apart they are actually dead. Jack and Zoe are just calcified statutes and still connected. Lucas isn't there at all because he's not apart of the mind control and is just a dick.

I don't know it's abit all over the place.

Jill is probably the easier route, she starts the game with a gun and has a bit more inventory space, whereas Chris only has a knife at the beginning.

Just finished, really great game, loved every second of it. The atmosphere and lighting is superb, I nearly shat my pants multiple times.

Things I disliked:

• I must admit that the ship section was kind of a drag (lots of backtracking and not knowing where to go), it was intense though.
• You can run away from 90% of the regular enemies (this was especially apparent in the mines, where they spawn in HORDES - I think I skipped all but one molded and the two big ones)
• Safe-rooms being safe, as in monsters despawning when you enter them. As soon as you know this fact, the game loses quite a bit of it's looming dread, especially if you factor in the point above. Would have loved if they chase you into them if they're directly behind and you can't save then. It was clever though that they reappeared at different points in the same area though.
• Replayability is kinda meh. You have to sit through the very linear beginning every time, can't even skip the intro cutscene. I was hoping I could skip to the dinner scene honestly after my first playthrough.

• Who is the person Ethan talks to in the intro cutscene?
• What was the meaning of the crumpled embryos inside the suitcases? Especially the scene where you neutralize the serum and the embryo deflates? What are they, where are they from? I noticed the certificate mentioning some company in London, anybody knows more about them?
• Mobile phone vibrating in the end? What's up with that?
• Was the clown a real person or an inanimate object? Wasn't really clear
• Did the Bakers know of the base in the mines?
• Until the end I was of the impression that the corpse of the little kid in Evelins room is actually Evelin. Who is the corpse?
