Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

And Zoe also explains more to Ethan than he would have known otherwise. I would say canon should be a mixture of both endings. Zoe can stay 'frozen' so we can assume she might be saved and Mia shouldn't get killed.

I can see Capcpom releasing an epilogue DLC and have the sequel resume from there.

Okay one more time for you people, here is the reveal trailer of RE: Revelations back on the day on the 3DS. It seems even then there was this idea of Hunk being Chris clone or something, and we can see Jill, Chris, and Hunk in the mix, heck the lines in the trailer could totally fit the new "Not a Hero" DLC. Take a look:

Been mentioned many times, especially because the director of 7 was Revelation 1's director.

I think the Old House is pretty easily the worst part of the game. It's got some good vibes and it has two of the absolute best moments in the game (when you first see Marge grab the lantern and the whole second floor), but neither of these are as good on replays and you're just left with a boring area and swarms of annoying bugs. At least it's easy to run through.

I'm in the camp that they forgot they even made that trailer

Yep, even on my first playthrough that area was very weak.
Like you said you get the flamethrower, burn wasp nests, then run past Margarette with ease.
I get they wanted to change it up after the main house, but they should've figured out something else.

I agree. It was even more annoying for me, because for some absurd reason I thought I needed three parts to create the flamethrower, so I was just wasting all my bullets on those freaking hives. During the Marge fight I was like 'why the hell haven't I found that third part yet?', so I tried combining the two parts I did have and spent the next minute banging my head on my desk.

Ok so I just beat the the game, and am pretty satisfied with how things went story-wise.

But I have to ask what's the deal with Chris at the end there? Is he running with umbrella now or is there something else going on? I realized this has probably been discussed to death at this point, so is there generally accepted answer at this point?

There is no general consensus. Some people, like myself, don't think it's Chris at all. While others think it is him. We probably won't know until the Not A Hero DLC is out.

No consensus yet. It may or may not be Chris.

so Ethan must die has some Souls in it. you start every time outside the house. there are woodboxes with randome loot in it. if you die you can go to the place where you died an get back one random item. first run i had only chemicals, second run ive found the P19, third run now i have the double barrle and the burner.

I cannot wait to play this tomorrow!

goal is to kill Spider Mag in the Greenhouse and the key is in the living room but you cant go straight to the living room. i was in the basment where you fight Chainsaw Jack and then there was this box. dont know yet if you can unlock shortcuts like in souls. the way till now was into the hous, left throught the scorpion door which is closed then, into the basement left arround the strais down to the jack fight and up arround where the dead cop is. problem is you will never know wich box is a trap until you have some psycho pills.

Started my Madhouse run and Mia was actually really easy once you know that her rushes are 100% blockable. You kick her away, shoot, repeat the process. Did her without running out of ammo.

Yeah, once I figured out you can grab the chainsaw when she does that lunge attack it was pretty much over.

I find the idea of any sort of "reformed" Umbrella to be quite dubious. A company that literally destroyed entire populations and ruined ecosystems is gonna rebrand with a bit of savvy PR and a new logo? And that Chris would ever consider working for them, or that Umbrella would want Chris to begin with. Who does that benefit?

It's all red flags, everywhere I look. It's rather a ruse to trick Ethan (I hope), or Capcom has gone off the deep end with the direction of RE's story.

The only think I can really think of is that somehow the BSAA/Terra Save/SOMEBODY decent got in control of old Umbrella assets and are now using them for good rather than evil. It's meant to be a kinda "bwaaaaaah?!" moment for the player though, that's for sure.

But yeah it really should have just been the BSAA, or not have Chris at all and instead have it be Umbrella back to their old tricks.

I thought they did the last part :p

Yknow, that conversation with Jack in the molded shared conciousness was probably the most emotional and tragic thing in the series since maybe Lisa Trevor. Lisa is still more depressing though. Third would probably be Piers sacrificing himself.

lmao Jack's wandering around the main hall on Madhouse already. You don't activate his appearance on the second floor - he's already roaming around. Jesus. I just ran in to him back in the starting hallway and he's fucking going through every door he comes across. Nuts.

Edit: Circular Saw fucked him up. WHO'S GOT A BOOBOO NOW AY SON.

I just finished RE7 and it made me want some more RE. RE7 felt more like that original Resident Evil's so I was leaning that way.

haha same. except i've never played any RE pre-RE4 so i went and bought the REmake on Steam last night to get myself acquainted. pretty pumped to dig in.

IMO it's canon because it makes way more sense. Sure, the bad ending might seem more fitting in line with horror tropes (how the hell did Mia get off the ship anyway?), but why would Ethan ever pick Zoe, who he doesn't actually know, over his wife for whom he came to the Baker estate? I know the writers make up some sort of excuse when you pick Zoe, but honestly I don't buy it. There's no way anyone would ever pick a random person over his/her spouse, even if that random person possibly has all the answers.

lol I picked Zoe the first time because Mia took my hand and tried to kill me multiple times while Zoe never bothered me and tried to help me.

Everyone always forgets Mike's brave sacrifice

Until you realize he built this madhouse and had possible shady connections well before Eveline showed up, and most of that stuff may have been a lie.

One of Chris's very first lines of dialogue in RE5 is refusing to be called Redfield.

!!!

The 4 legged Molded on Madhouse don't fuck around. One right outside the second save on the other side of the Scorpion door. They fuck you up even with both defense items.

Fortunately if you hold L2 and R2 with the circular saw then they will jump right in to it and die instantly but other than that they are fucking ruthless.

Did he build all that stuff before her? She's been there for three years after all, plenty of time for her to start her influence and make them go crazy (it takes less than a day for her to start getting in Ethan's head after all). It's implied that Lucas was a bad egg from the start but I only got the impression that the other Bakers started to go crazy after Eveline showed up.

Also Chris is a very different person since RE5, hell, he was a very different person in RE6. Dude has been through some serious stuff since the early BSAA days.

Just started Madhouse, not using any special or DLC items. Saved right past that enemy... Almost laid an egg when he showed up. So lucky I had bullets to kill it.

Man, Madhouse is rough... I'm loving it.

Just beat the game. Loved the ending. I know sometimes I'm really slow but I didn't see granny/Eveline coming. And loved the REmake-like connection back to the house at the end. Boss fight was whatever.

Yup! He built it in 1998, at least the secret passageways and stuff. And still... it's a hint!

I think I started to think it was weird that nobody ever mentioned the grandma once you go to her room but I just wrote it off as a plot contrivance. Plus so much starts to happen at that point with Lucas and the ship that I just sort of forgot about her. When you read that email from Lucas though, all the lights came on and I had a great "ooooooooh damn" moment.

Lol alright then. I guess I just didn't think too hard about it. Suppose it says something about the series that at this point I take things like secret passages and elaborate puzzle doors for granted. All of the kidnappings didn't start until after Mia and Eveline though, right? I know there was that one incident with Lucas trapping the neighbor kid up in their attic but I don't remember finding anything that implicated them in wrong doing until after the shipwreck.

Didn't Lucas win some awards in engineering? Maybe the shadow doors and stuff were his ideas,

Mhmm. Basically Lucas has always been a weirdo genius and has been pranking/tricking/murdering people for years, which is why it's possible he was in contact with whatever organization before Evaline showed up. They don't start kidnapping people until he locks up Mia because she gets so crazy violent some time in 2015 and Evaline starts looking for more family members. And yeah, somehow I feel like Lucas might be partially responsible, but Jack's name is on the renovation bill in the attic so who knows.

The stalker stuff in general is weak. For one, they're slow. And they're not really dangerous. Jack is ok, but Marge is a total wacko. You can't compare these to Nemesis, who was brutal, who ran fast, who was actually tough to put down, and who genuinely surprised you when he appeared. He felt organic and alive. And he was ugly.

I actually really liked the old house b/c the atmosphere is just ridiculous in VR but both stalking encounters were very weak.
