I loved R&C. I own every game. WHen I heard Insomniac was working on a PS3 game, I thought, awesome, new R&C, i'm there.

But no, we get this generic Mac and Cheese brand of FPS.

I'm sick of them.

Before you complain about weapons being unimaginative, read a preview or two. Jeez, read the one linked to on this thread.

And R&C for PS3 is coming.

How is the game generic? Unique enemies, unique weapons, physics that are definitely FTW, certainly a unique storyling and probably unique vehicles...what else can an FPS do to differentiate itself?

That is one tag thats just going to stick on FOM by the sheer will of those imposing it to belittle the game.

I will say that entering into the FPS genre will open Insomniac up to the kind of criticism they never received before. Vicious fans.

Well, they did show that R&C PS3 tech demo a while back...

I know! And it hurts me more to know that there's that beautiful tech demo sitting on a HD somewhere while they work on this mediocrity.

These guys are super talented, but I dont see what happened with this game, I didn't expect this from them. I do expect a new R&C with close to Pixar quality graphics though. The tech demo was very promising.

Also, if Incog comes out and says they're working on a Space Marine FPS, i'm going to hurt someone...bad.

Again...you haven't been following Resistance. The sniper rifle itself is creative. They have even talked about different guns throughout all of their interviews...

It's the same color as Call of Duty 2, and the game isn't really artistically beautiful. It's not nice or particularly well though out, but that's the answer.

Not much. But I do remember reading how these guys were known for creative weapons in R&C and this game would boast an amazing array of weapons. I saw nothing of that in the trailer. Everything looked severley generic.

Here are a few from the info thread at the IG forums

Bulleye

By using its alternate fire to "tag" an enemy with a single shot, the player can then shoot a rapid-fire stream of bullets that will home in on him from around corners. You can even tag the ground, then fire bullets that will swarm around the marker until you decide to send this "ball of death" flying at someone.

Primary fire: Rapid fire ''red plasma'' bullets.
Secondary fire: Shoots a ''tag'' that attracts all bullets. Shoot it a second time to send all the bullets on an enemy.

Hedgehog

Primary fire: Throws a grenade that spreads spikes everywhere when it explodes.

M54 Law

What makes this PSM's favorite weapon (besides the big booms) is that you can guide a missile after you fire it by aiming at a laser pointer. You can even put on the brakes and freeze the missile high up in the air until a worthy target appears, and fire off dozens of mini-rockets from its smoke trail by using its alternate fire mode.

Most of the weapons have yet to be revealed yet though.

Certainly an upgrade but Resistance is never going to be a looker. Call of Duty 3 retains its FPS graphics crown.

Of course, the actual game sounds fantastic, but it seems no one is bothering to read the preview..

Seriously I swear to god COD3 doesn't really look all that to me. It's about a 8 in the graphics. It's nowhere near as great as some people here make it. But the video for Resistence needs to be on IGN.

Gamespot videos suck.

How was his quote insane? We are talking about ps3 and 600 bucks to buy the damn machine. I, along with many others have been expecting more then this out of the system..with its launch games. Not saying all ps3 games have been subpar...im looking foward to a few titles on ps3 during the holidays/newyear but i just dont see anything we havent seen on xbox 360 or the pc for that matter...

For this state of the art cell chip, uber powerful rsx...im still waiting for sony to make my head turn...seriously.

Lower your expectations. You are paying extra for Blu Ray. PS3 and 360 both look to be nearly awesomely equal.

What I'm trying to say is that maybe Resistance isn't the only game Insomniac has in development.

EDIT: I see jett beat me to the punch there.

The footage in the new vid is looking great.

I do have to agree to some extend that the textures might be somewhat bad, just a little bit tho, but I have to say that they really nailed the look and feel of this game. The use of textures and how the levels are designed is just great and I really dig the coloring.. kinda brownish.

That aside I kinda hoped that the game would have focussed more on some tactical shooting instead of facing 10 or more enemies at once and just blazing thru them.

robots + cool guns = buy

Exactly. Compare this to Bioshock and you'll see a grave contrast. Bioshock oozes creativity in a genre overburdened by these generic "me too" games.

Bioshock has atmosphere that refelcts the desperation and mystery of the story.

This, I see big robots walking around and people shooting at it. Its been done before.

This argument again? You're not paying for a generational leap over 360 games... you're investing in a superior storage format. How is that a difficult concept to grasp?

When I pick up a PS3, it'll be to enjoy the traditional eastern classics only found on a Sony machine and to have an affordable Blu-Ray player in my house.

Watching the interview now, and I just don't see what makes this game so special. Its exciting me as much as Timeshift.

Yep your right. The game is pretty much a D- game, that doesn't have any exciting/different gameplay going for it.

Wait, you're complaining this concept is tired right after you just got done whining that they're not making the fifth Ratchet & Clank game fast enough?

Of course, in that town. But a screen like this is very much artistically well done:
rst01.jpg

Thats unique and definitely its own style.

(of course this is probably the best screenshot period, because it shows off sweet shadowing of the chimera against the wooden rail, and no bad textures OMG :p)

Nah, its easily contender for best graphics. In fact its the best gameplay graphics I've seen outside of a couple PC games.

Sounds stupid, but yeah. I've had more fun with R&C than most FPS games because the whole look of the games and the feel is fresh. FPS games tend to follow along this predetermined design path that people hardly tend to break.

Yeah, that looks nice. Kind of Ratchet and Clank/Metroid Prime in black vibe about it. Of course, what's remarkable to me is not what you mentioned, but how clean it is.

I seriously doubt they'll be writing stories about this game's lighting for years to come, but Insomniac has an attention to quality that keeps its games running brilliantly with crystal clarity.

YOU ARE MISSING EVERYTHING!! You see Bioshock and want every game to be like it. Resistence in itself is different. You just don't know anything about the game.

Tell me something about the game right now. I bet you can't.

I agree with you on about 95% of the stuff you say, BUT I'm sorry COD3 is not even close imo "best gameplay graphics". Not even close. It's nice and all but to me it's just an enhanced COD2.

Yeah i know.. i agree about the blue ray being a major steal with the ps3..big reason why im buying the ps3 , but im a gamer at heart, i want to see more then what im seeing with ps3's videogame library..or i should say their launch library..i just dont see much other then MotorStorm and a few others...i want to be excited during ps3 launch day.

By the time ps3 launches... Gears of War will be raising the bar significantly for videogame visuals, beyond anything we'll see on the ps3 during its launch..i guess thats my point.

Glad to know that I am not the only one who doesn't see the incredible graphics of COD3, it looks good sure but nothing out of this world.

just watched the footage and read the 3 page preview, but footage always tells the most. The new footage is pretty unremarkable, just like all the Resistance footage in the past.

Resistance is getting the small things very very wrong. One quick example is the sniper rifle. There is no recoil or feedback from the weapon when it fires, just a plain boring sound effect and even the scope looks bland and 1 dimensional. The melee is really rough as well. It's too quick and doesn't have a nice weighty snap to it. Reloading is also too quick and uninspired. There are just problems everywhere. I want to like Resistance, but it's just not winning me over at all.

And what about Bioshock?

In bioshock, you shoot at guys in scuba diving suits who escort little girls and mustans in an ruined underwater utopia that feels like it was created in the era it was meant to be.

Amazing how a game that is being developed by an already proven developer, is trying to change up the FPS genre, is concentrating a lot of it's development time into it's story and plot can be torn into 7 million pieces. Congrats GAF, you always out do my expectations of internet forum posters every time I come here.

but I digress. Its too early to tell anything about this game, and maybe it'll have some amazing gameplay sequences, like driving in a jeep as a huge mechanical walking thing chases after you, destroying all of the buildings in its path. You know, something more than typical run and gun levels.

Well, I already said earlier that its IQ is the only thing I find remarkable about the game ;)

Nithr said:
why does that look way better than the new screenshots?
It was only released a couple of days ago. Same batch probably.

I think Insomniac has built an ugly, ugly - but large- town that to completely redo would take too much time, so instead they focus on improving more closed sections so that the visual quality is consistent in each area.

Well, I think the screenshots look kinda bad, but the movie (which is newer), looked amazing. Prompting that thread 'XXX has nothing on CoD3s new footage' by someone else ;) Anyway, thats off topic.

i really think the game is too ambitious for insomniac as a launch title.. they need a little more time, plus they are trying for 1080p.. that makes a big difference in graphic quality

I seriously think they simply were aiming for the march launch date, which is why the game looks like this.

So Gamespot got a preview but with three old screens, one of which we'd already seen before? Damn they're keeping this game on lockdown. ;P
