What's there to be worried about? All they are spying on are my podcasts and plans to meet at Dave and Busters.

We love Dave and Busters for some reason.

I still don't understand how people can think this way. Having all this spying infrastructure makes it so easy for abuses and real nefarious purposes at any time at the flip of a switch. (If we're naively assuming its only being used to catch "the terrorists" now.)

Still, i doubt NSA is going to spy grandma talking with her grand-son on Skype.

But hey, what do i know.

Describe the possible abuses. I think that's the disconnect. It's a simple matter of "how does this actually affect me". I don't get caught up in "ideas". The "idea" of being spied on is rather sketch but the reality is that the chances of it actually affecting me in any drastic way are pretty small so it doesn't really concern me all that much.

Unless you can further explain these "abuses and real nefarious purposes". I'm asking because I'm genuinely curious. Not poking fun.

Control.
The more we are involved in tech the more we are controlled, to be honest before be angry about this, i would like to know why we are all spyed.
Govs around the world look at their citizens as a menace?
All this power is for what?Who?
The preventing terrorism thinghy in my opinion is a very unimaginative excuse.
Terrorists do not skype around, or they do?
Seems to me that their are looking in the wrong direction for that purpose.

Remember McCarthyism? People were being branded Communist spies and traitors purely for a senator to score political points for himself. One of the ways he found these "Communist infiltrators" was by looking up who went to communist or socialist rallies or meetings during the Great Depression. Socialism sure sounded like a good idea at the time when a good chunk of Americans were in bread lines. But then the political winds changed and those in charge are parading those who attended those rallies in front of the House of Un-American Activities Committee to name names and be blacklisted.

And abuses aren't limited to events sixty years ago. Consider the recent IRS crackdown on the Tea Party. And what's the Tea Party's crazy, radical agenda? Lower taxes.

Now it's getting to a point where they don't need you to sign up as a member to a political movement for your opinions to be known. You just have to mention it to someone over Skype.

Now, you yourself may have absolutely zero interest in politics and hey, maybe you're right and it may never effect you personally. But for everyone who do want to utilized their right to be involved with the future of the nation have to worry that everything they say and think can be used against them if the future political winds turn against them, discouraging people from taking part in the political process is fucking unacceptable!

it's already started. Obama wants federal employees to keep tabs on one another. only a matter of time before it's on a citizen level.

astounding to watch us fall down the slope, backed up by evidence, and still... well what are the kardashians up to...

This is literally how my friends think.... I was talking with them about how I feel its bullshit to justify spying on your own citizens with "well, terrorism!". They feel that if they have to lose their privacy to ensure a "safe" america then so be it because they "aren't doing anything illegal so they wont look at me". One them tells me he doesn't care because it isn't affecting him and the other tells me I should have known this was happening since the Patriot Act was enabled and that I sound like a republican! LOL. This nation is truly fucked for the future if this mindset is adopted by everyone.. I guess now I am a tinfoil hat guy...
