Rocksmith 2014 announced

*Sigh* I was hoping to skip that step.

I'm currently playing the PS3 version of the original game and that's alright so far. The lag is noticable, but I haven't had any issues with the first four tiers. I imagine it might become a problem with some of the faster songs towards the end.

Well yeah you have to set up your system differently. Turn on game mode, turn off post processing on your surround sound, don't use HDMI for audio, etc.

Maybe a dumb question but... Anyone in GAF really learned how to play the guitar with Rocksmith? I mean, play the guitar outside the game...
Anyone? Maybe a thread about this?

I don't actually know anyone who plays Rocksmith so this is just my experience.

The game is an amazing tool to practice with. The mini-games have been a fantastic tool for getting me familiar with the fretboard and being able to do chords consistently. I had no finger dexterity when I started and would constantly strum the incorrect string and my fingers could barely move when I had to do a chord. Now there are quiet a few chords that my hand just knows from feel and I rarely have to check which string I'm strumming. I'm really starting to to get a feel for where I am on the fretboard too. I've tried to learn guitar so many times in the past but I could never stay motivated. This is the first time anything has actually stuck.

The game is just fun which is why I'm practicing at least an hour every day. Beating scores, watching how song charts slowly fill out. You can see your progress very well. Every time I managed to do a difficulty part I plug my guitar into my amp to see how it sounds... YUP, sounds just like the song! It's a really good feeling.

I don't think the game is a substitute for other kinds of practice and even lessons if you want to get good though. The game will teach you skills and songs but it doesn't actually show you how to play the guitar if that makes sense. 2014 seems to be branching into that that with Session mode though. Looking forward to it.

Looks like Mastodon's "Blood and Thunder"

Here is what I want out of the new version:

1) An "expert" mode. Just let me play it with the full notes without having to work up to it. Or at least not play one note every 3 measures for half the song.

2) A menu that doesn't suck.

3) More hard rock and metal and less hipster rock. Indie rock isn't the most exciting to play. Even the kids today who want to play guitar want to play 70s guitar focused riff rock. (Looks like this one has been addressed.)

4) Just use standard left to right guitar tab. I got used to weird track presentation but would still mess up when it rapidly changed positions on the neck.

Don't count on what I bolded

Once you get to the highest 'difficulty' you just simply play the song note-for-note.

You can definitely use Rocksmith to learn those songs, and trust me, once you can play a thing or two, it's much easier to learn another song. Plus it's absolutely great for practice.

Our Guitarcade games are returning bigger and better than ever in Rocksmith 2014. We’re not yet tipping our hand about the specifics but old favorites will be returning in improved form, new games centered around new techniques have been added, and we’re even introducing longer form Guitarcade games which feature storylines, discrete levels, and even cutscenes! Much like everything else in Rocksmith 2014, the Guitarcade games have been designed with learning in mind but we wager that you’ll also find them more fun and engaging than ever before.

One overarching theme of our improvements and new features is a greater sense of control. This is most clear within the new on-the-fly Riff Repeater, which gives you near complete control over the way you practice riffs or full songs. This same philosophy extends to other features like our new interactive lessons, which you’ll be hearing about a little later. This isn’t to say that we’ve removed the guidance that many fans and beginning players enjoyed. We’ve kept and improved our dynamic difficulty system while modifying our ‘Rocksmith Recommends’ algorithm so the option is still available to let Rocksmith 2014 provide a lesson plan that allows the player to learn at a more gradual pace that adapts to each user.

Somewhat off topic - I bought the original Rocksmith on PC about a month ago to try and learn lead guitar but couldn't find a way to practice just learning lead. I've been playing rhythm for about 20 years so everything they were teaching out of the box was mainly focused on that it's not what I need. I didn't spend a whole lot of time trying to navigate the menus and learn the intricacies of the game, but is there a way to get lessons just on lead?

Most of the time you want Combo / Single Note when you pick your song.

Looks like I finally have a reason to buy a capo:
Paul Cross
capos are now supported! I think the alternate arrangement of Paint it, Black requires one, will add more on dlc.

Maybe they'll do slides too. I think there was at least one Rocksmith 1 song that left a slide part uncharted (can't recall which at the moment).

logged over 250 hours into rocksmith and after travelling asia and moving to australia I just bought a new guitar soley to play it again., 4 months without practice has me pretty rusty though :/

Yes, but not when it comes to rock. They have plenty of talented artists making jazz and electronic music. To be fair, I haven't heard of any of those artists so I'll cue them up in my playlist. Maybe I'll be surprised.

hehe, I think you might recognize "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" as soon as you load it

I sold my Xbox360 and now I really need this game. I don't know should i buy a new one or maybe wait for X1/PS4 version?

Get it on PC, you can get hundreds of free songs. Both indie and well known stuff. People convert the songs to Rocksmith in the same way Frets on Fire had a community doing the same.
