Rumor: A new Splinter Cell could be in development

Why not something in the middle?

I think most MGS fans can at least agree Ground Zeroes was very good, and that's what id like to see a new Splinter Cell go in the direction of. Not open world, but larger and densely packed levels with multiple routes, options/tactics, and objectives compared to the newer installments like Blacklist.
Yeah, Ground Zeroes would be a solid place to start.

I can see Ubisoft eyeing three possibilities

1) Following the success of Siege, they're doing a SvM multiplayer focused title.
2) An open world/sandbox level reboot
3) A mix of both, but leaning heavily on integrating the multiplayer and single player stuff. So less Sam Fisher, more customizable agent that carries over between solo and online

Basically sounds like what Splinter Cell Conviction was going to be before they reined it in a bit.

This is pretty much what I see too. Personally I'd be down for the SvM eSports-focused game if it actually stayed true to classic SvM or at least didn't feel like some COD upgrade scheme.

But knowing Ubisoft, if there is still a campaign Splinter Cell, I see it taking the Phantom Pain route. Phantom Pain pretty much WAS the Ubisoft formula but with more open-ended level design and a more satisfying gameplay foundation. The best case scenario would be a series of Ground Zero-esque levels but I don't see Ubisoft not doing open-world for a AAA game at this point.

That's what id put my money on. I feel Blacklist was already heading in this direction, with the optional side missions that could be done solo or co op.

They already have the 4-player squad mechanics in place with Ghost Recon: Wildlands , combine it with what's above and you might have something Ubisoft would release in 2017.

Yes please.

Please add a museum level, and a bank level, and a ship level, and a casino level. Those kinds of levels are just cool in a stealth game.

And bring back using the mouse wheel for your speed.

A new Splinter Cell like Chaos Theory, and the new Assassin's Creed could make Ubisoft's E3 show amazing. Can't wait to see what they're doing.

Please don't be action trash.

Be a stealth game.

I always thought Splinter Cell had a good foundation, but either went too far action (later games) or always felt mechanically clunky AF (early trilogy).

Something that takes the smoothness of MGSV and gets back to the hardcore stealth roots would be nice.

But I doubt that happens. I'd take a re-imagining of the first game for sure though that's like that.

I wish they'd make bl backwards compatible I'd buy it again.
Splinter cell prequel set in Cold War would be dope
I'd also be into a reboot with new protagonist

Blacklist was a mistake. They should've phased out Sam Fisher and kept Ironside as a "handler" over the comms.

What? No. What? Come on. Blacklist was easily the best entry since Chaos Theory.

Yeah this is the truth, I really loved Blacklist.

Personally for a next game I think it would be best if they focused on the single player and filling the needs of the stealth genre's future

but again, Splinter Cell always had strong local multiplayer roots, it'd be great if they expanded on that as well with the online modes

I want this to be truth, so, so much!

Blacklist was incredible (except for the lack of Michael Ironside). I dream of what a new SC would look on Scorpio.. I image something like Chaos Theory looked back in the original Xbox.. There was nothing like it.

mgs5 shipped 6 million copies
Sure, but Kojima is gone.

Metal Gears IS dead.

Splinter Cell game for 360 was on sale last week and said available to play on Xbox One. MS retracted the BC part of the release.

New Splinter Cell coming with some sort of exclusive Xbox content or deal and 360 versions availble to play on the One right now announcement at E3?

I'm 100% here for a new Splinter Cell. Bought Blacklist on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Base the new game on that and expand what was good about it, and it's bound to be good.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
This would be the only announcement that would genuinely catch my attention during Ubisoft's E3 show. Please be true and with Ironside on board.

Honestly, I'm not even sure I want Ubisoft to bother at this point. None of their AAA games have clicked with me in years and Conviction/Blacklist were too "arcadey" and neutered in comparison to the masterpiece that is Chaos Theory.

Just go back to making shitty Asscreed and Watch_Dogs, Ubi.

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Hopefully another title where they're using that motion matching animation approach... that worked incredibly in For Honor.

Splinter Cell deserves the best animation possible.

Get Ironside and Amon Tobin back, the soundtrack in Chaos Theory was (and still is) superb. As for the level design, a mix between Blacklist and Ground Zeroes would be good.
