RUMOR: Assassin's Creed 3 set in Ancient Egypt?

I'm excited. Ancient Egypt is without doubt one of the interesting and underutilized settings in fiction.

an Imperial Russia one in the time of Peter the great would be awesome
just imagine running around in Moscow and Saint Petersburg as it is still being build

I'd say Napoleonic wars with Paris and another city or two. Moscow and London make sense but levels as I mentioned earlier could easily be in Egypt, Spain, Italy etc. but Napoleon is the ultimate PoE dictator whose crazy rise to power and swift collapse fits the history well. He hit all the areas of the previous games and we know he was a Templar.

Fucking hell, I need to start playing the second one because they're clearly making them faster than I can beat them.

I'm still a fan of that rumored French Revolution setting. Especially since it's a Ubisoft game. They got the Italian flavor right as far as I could tell, so they should be able to nail France.

I always thought Egypt could work for a new God of War game although it might be too close to ancient Greece for some people. Still - sooo many Gods to kill.

Yeah Egypt does seem kind of samey. Alexandria would be cool though. I just don't think there's a better setting than the Italian Renaissance.

I think modern would be a bad direction to go. You would have to completely change the gameplay or set it in some type alternate history universe(where guns don't exist, for example). The incredible vertical variety of the New York skyline would kill most of the horizontal momentum; moving vehicles really changes the dynamic; also you're not going to stab 20 people in the face in New York and then 'lose' the 'guards'. Hope you can lose helicopters and GPS tracking. Also I don't think New York has many hidden tombs...

You know what? Paris. Modern Paris might work.

What are people's #1 want for a time place/location/era?
Eastern Asia myself. I wanna control either the Chinese Assassin or the Japanese Assassin in this pic:

I think they mean Medieval Europe? Altair was an Ismaili by historical accounts right?

Ancient Egypt = pharaohs and shit upto and including Ptolemaic and Roman rule which pretty much ends when Arabs take it over in the 600s.

From what AC:R is probably about (Ezio searching for more of Altair's loot) this is probably just a detour in the Animus for AC3.

I can't wait to swan dive off of the tip of the Empire State Building into a dumpster full of bum shit.
I chuckled at this one.

I think Egypt would be a pretty rad setting--I'd play it.

On second thought, how about we make AC3 whatever city/time period that chick in the lower left-hand corner resides in.

Grrrrrwwwwllllllll.

Ya that's how I feel. Was going to pick up AC:B early next year but then I'd still have AC:R... and possibly AC3 later in the year. I'm not even sure I'll be done with Skyrim by then.

pics made me think...can we get an Assassin lady up in this piece? I'd love a tortured, vengeance-seeking equivalent of Ezio, fuckin shit up in her time and place of choice.

The whole reason they can crank out AC games so frequently is because most of the assets are in place.

If they're going to make a female character then they're going to have to completely reanimate most of the moves to make her look right.

Not likely.

The only Assassins Creed I'll play again would be if it's set in Desmonds time period. Give me some Minority Report type Tools (as that was the vibe I got in the first half hour of so from the first game.)

The historic periods just couldn't hold me attention.

Eh.. I'm not confident that Ubisoft could do much both weapon and architecture-wise with an Ancient Egypt setting that would improve upon what the AC2 games already established.

However, I would love some French Revolution or 18th/19th century London.

To each his own, but I find that concept incredibly generic.

Well, plus I like Desmond :D

The only other character Nolan North is allow to voice without me rolling my eyes straight out of my head.

I'd prefer that since it will finally move the story over more fillers (more old time periods).

Yeah and it totally doesn't have anything to do with the 500+ people working on it.

Going forward will only make guns prominent, which would be a shit direction for the series.

It doesn't have to be that way if they are creative and smart. I'm looking for something more contemporary...even futuristic.

Ancient Egypt...tired.

Contemporary Egypt? Now you have something...

You can't just go to China/Japan. Shit needs to fit together in a logical way such that it relates to both storylines and the aesthetic of the series that has become its hallmark. Knights Templar in Imperial China doesn't make sense, you miss out on identifiable and memorable locales for the audience (who is overwhelmingly American and European), nothing in the story has lead there.

It doesn't make sense in the context of ending the trilogy.

they could make an imaginary city, like an Atlantis or something. would be awesome, and could make sense. AC2 spoiler:
especially given the ending of AC2 where there was a glimpse of an ancient sophisticated civilization.

alternating between that setting and present time setting would be best for a conclusion to the series i think.

No sword fights in london :\

Fencing dude.

French Revolution would make sense, mostly because it's actually not that different from the Italy setting. Similar level of tech and so on.

But really I wouldn't mind something a bit more out there, like having a bunch of different eras in the same game, or do prehistoric times, or modern times. Stuff like that would have to make them switch up the gameplay as well.

Yeah, I kind of figured the conclusion for the story would have to deal with that.

Ancient Egypt would be a great setting. I wouldn't mind that at all, although I'm also intrigued by the idea of turn-of-the-century London. Or medieval China, perhaps.

It'll probably be Napoleonic France, though, which seems similar to what they've already done. :( I do hope they at least decide to stick with one setting, though, and don't turn it into globetrotting.

Never really cared about AC but oh my, will buy if true.

Oh look japanophyle gaf wanting Japan, come on guys.

Feudal Japan would be a really, really cool setting, man. It's not like we're saying AC needs to be more kawaiiiii and uguuuu or whatever.

One of the top Google Image results for "Feudal Japan" is this:

Why not a modern Assassins Creed set in New York? :P

Because a modern Assassin's Creed would be incredibly fucking lame?

The entire central appeal of this series is the opportunity to explore these historical cities as a sandbox setting. That's what makes it different (and better) than the more generic GTA ripoff sandbox games, and the modern story is only present as a thin unifying element to keep people on the hook for their silly storyline.

In terms of potential settings, revolutionary France definitely works but it strikes me as a bit tame given that we just spent so much time in Italy. Egypt strikes me as having the problems people have already mentioned -- not enough buildings, not enough distinction from the Middle East setting we've already seen. China during the fall of the Ming would be amazing and it fits well -- takes place chronologically later than AC2/B/R, takes place during a big societal upheaval, involves some significant, big cities that would be awesome to explore -- so it'd be my personal choice if anyone asked me.
