They've been running on a stripped down version of MT Framework since MH3U. Even a simple bump to the full engine would do a world of good for the visual quality.

Well I'm just thinking of they had enough of this game done they could just switch to UE4 if the NX is running the 2X.

They don't think it would sell well in Japan. Didn't on PS2 or WiiU.

You could argue that the PS2 was early in the life and the Wii U wasn't that popular, but I think really it's just a game that most people in Japan want to play on a handheld.

Although if NX is what is rumored lately, we may yet get HD monhun again.

X1 supports UE4 I think, they were demoing Elemental on it.

It'd make sense for them to go with UE4 on NX as they already are with SFV on PS4. Not sure about other games.

I just want a good looking MH game that preforms well (MH Online is pretty but runs bad) and NX is looking to deliver

True enough. The first two games were modest successes on the PS2 in Japan, though sales abroad were tragic, to say the least.

Monster Hunter Frontier Online 2 has cancelled. ;(

Not sad about it, and not too surprised either. Even by using a good engine like UE4 it was probably a lot of work. Wouldn't be surprised if they make a deal with Tencent to make a console version of Online for Asia instead.
