I had no interest in the PS4 because of weak software lineup but this would actually make me purchase the console.
People want it for discs because the original console that played them is old, no longer in production, and might break at some point in the near future, so being able to play them in a newer machine extends the playable life of the games. Which is kind of, you know, the entire reason BC exists in the first place.
Sony already uses a blanket emulator for its classics on PS3, PSP, and Vita. Why would they suddenly switch?
This nullifies the existence of Playstation Now. I doubt it.
... Wait, what? You'd buy the $399 console not to play inFamous, Uncharted, The Order, Destiny, etc, but to play 10-20 year old games readily available on other consoles?
I am serious. How much anyone here played PS2/PS1 games in early PS3 models?
And what would be more replayable now, GTA San Andreas or Mario Galaxy HD?
PS3 games? Other devices? This nullifies the existence of Playstation Now. I doubt it.

It's certainly for disks. It's not for discs, though.I don't think this is for disks.
I'm honestly surprised at the number of people who still have PS2 and PS1 discs they want to play, yet don't have the backwards compatibility versions of PS3. It seems like that would have been a pretty quick pickup at the time.
Please

Just fixed that for you. Finally able to buy all of my ps2 games again? This would be glorious.
You've just reminded me that I bought it a few years back... and that I need to play it.Still can't believe Rez HD is still XBLA exclusive...

I had a b/c PS3, but it died late last year, so I bought a new PS3 to replace it, but it isn't b/c. I replay my old games quite regularly, so having b/c on PS4 would be a huge deal for me.

Never going to happen.Hoooooooo shit! I reeeeeally hope "local" implies using the PS4 disc drive! I'd jump all over one ASAP if that's the case! With the 4's inability to play CDs, I'm guessing it'll work for PS1 PSN downloads, but hopefully PS2 will be streamable straight from the disc!
That would mean I'd have my PS3 for my PS1 and PS3 games...
And I'd have to get a PS4 to play my PS2 and PS4 games...
I'd be in heaven.

Both? Your logic on the HD remakes are flawed because 99.99% of games aren't going to be remade. Most of the stuff i enjoy playing on PS1/PS2 will never, ever, ever get a HD remake.I am serious. How much anyone here played PS2/PS1 games in early PS3 models?

Hahahahaha at back-loggers.
I could play this quality of PSOne games for the rest of my life.
Amazing, simply amazing.
Care to do Gran Turismo 1/Gran Turismo 2 if you have them? Front Mission 3? Colony Wars?
Thanks in advance!
Lots of us did pick them up. And then subsequently many of them bricked. I sent mine in to be repaired, but it was replaced by a new model without BC.
Is it really that mystifying?
Because they would probably prefer to sell digital copies of each game, rather than allow you to insert discs? Services services services - not BC.
This isn't happening.
This is a fool's dream.
As much as the existence of DVDs nullifies netflix. Also, PS3 games are not included. So why do people keep repeating this? This nullifies the existence of Playstation Now. I doubt it.
I wonder who still cares ?and not the hardcore gamer but casual gamers
All signs points to it happening, why is it a fools dream?
No it doesn't, not even in the slightest - PS Now was always primarily for PS3 titles, ever since Sony originally bought Gaikai and announced their early intentions. Having PS1 and PS2 titles emulated directly on the console from either download or disc-based is a good idea, and even if you have to buy the emulator itself, I'd pay NZ$10-20 for it.This nullifies the existence of Playstation Now. I doubt it.
