This could be massive news if true. That would mean Rockstar would be all Sony again right?

That doesn't seems financially possible - more realistic would be some kind of merge but I don't see much benefit for Take Two in it.
 
That would be just as messed up as one of the console companies buying EA


I would only agree with something like this if the games continue to be made for all platforms.

Couple of articles but they are all the same and sourcing the same person.
From a business point of view it would make sense but it's unlikely I think.
 
Would be terrible, if either company (Sony/ms) bought them. Also would make no financial sense in the long run for take 2 to do this.
 
Buying a game studio would be more believable... A big publisher like take-two seems a bit impossible, unless some scandal that hasn't surfaced yet is threatening to take take-two into the ground.

It wouldn't make financial sense for Sony to do this. There's no game that Take Two/Rockstar makes that doesn't come to the PlayStation anyway, and the Switch isn't even a factor they don't even have GTAV a last gen game. You'd essentially be paying billions to keep them away from Microsoft, who by the way you already stomped down by more than 2 to 1 this gen and who has one foot in the multi-platform door anyway.

No no no, its only terrible when Microsoft do it. This is just good business, and a great buy, because its Sony.
 
Sounds like complete bullshit.
Rockstar aren't being bought by anyone so even if Sony does somehow buy Take Two I doubt the deal would come with Rockstar. The deal just doesn't really make sense for Sony or Take Two.

Not sure I believe this at all but if both companies believe in cloud streaming, Sony already has their infrastructure built so there could be benefits. (don't confuse this with my opinion, I'm saying their opinion or belief)

Rockstart is not independent... it is just a Take 2's studio.

If Sony buys Take 2 then Rockstar come together.

I highly doubt that Sony have the cash for that. Take Two own Rockstar, Firaxis and whatever Ken Levine is working on. Not to mention all of 2K Games. I also doubt that Rockstar and Firaxis would be happy to develop just for one platform, as that would be quite the step back. But mostly, I don't think that Sony have the cash.

I think the difference with EA is many of the titles are licensed IPs like the sports titles, as part of some of the licensing including opening to many platforms. Those license holders want a ton of money, a little more difficult to do if you are only targeting one platform, generally speaking.

I don't believe this rumor (but you never know), but it doesn't have to be an all cash deal, something like this would probably be a mix of cash and stock.

Maybe the meetings are for a deal for an exclusive game or exclusive content /marketing and things are being blown out of proportion as usual...
 
I love console warriors lol. M$ buys a studio and it's one side of DEVIL!!!! and Microsoft fans saying how it's so great and they'll flourish under Microsoft. Sony rumor comes out and it's the opposite. However if this deal meant we could maybe see other studios aid them and I could get an MLB The Show level NBA game? YES PLEASE!
 
If Sony does end up buying Take Two, their franchises will not become first party exclusives. This is because Xbox could've done the same thing with Minecraft but they didn't due to a sheer amount of lost revenue if they chose to do so.

Ease of development+shorter dev time because of only having one platform to code for+guaranteed the biggest console install base VERSUS pissing off a HUGE portion of their fanbase+getting dragged through the mud on every social media outlet = I doubt it. Reputation is far more relevant in the long run than short term gains (hello MS). Unless they put a deal in place that prevents GTA and RDR from becoming exclusive? Then I could begin to believe it.

Make no mistake I am against this move as Take 2 is one of the better puiblishers and feel it is better for the industry if they are console neutral.

Put it this way if MS acquired EA and Sony Acquired Take 2, there is no question Sony would get the better end and it's not even close.

i think sony is too cheap to acquire anything. they have only closed 5 studios since 2012. they are playing it safe this rumor sounds like bs.

This would dwarf whatever Microsoft's acquisitions and everything else in the industry but there is like ZERO chance this is happening. I doubt Sony or anyone has that kind of cash to throw around for a single studio.

I'd love seeing it just for the meltdowns over the internet from videogame boards to youtube it would be fucking epic. But it doesnt any make any financial sense whatsoever. GTA is the biggest-selling IP because it's multiplatform. Having that as exclusive would be stupid as fuck.

It doesn't have to be an all cash deal, probably mixed. What are you talking about Microsoft acquired Lumia Windows Phone division for like $9b, wrote the whole acquistion down in about a year or so. (just saying :messenger_grinning:)

This would have to involve stock as well, it doesn't have to be all cash - it can actually involve no cash, depends on the deal.

Maybe Sony saw the post here from a week or so ago about gathering all of the great game studios together to make the GAME OF A GENERATION

If any of this is really true they wouldn't become title exclusives, Sony would just be able to make money from not only their platform, but from Microsoft, Nintendo, and PC platforms as well.
