He basically made a Twilight quality game, without any rifftrax to be able to enjoy it.

off topic here, but TWILIGHT is such an easy target that you're working on a jay leno level of comedy.

Fuck brah, we're all laughing and joking in here... not sure why you had to take it down to that level.

The first one was an above average game that got shit on because of its developer and lack of 4 player co-op (which makes it kind of funny someone would recommend Torchlight). It would not take a whole lot of tweaking to make the game incredible.

What would you categorize as a current-gen below average loot game, if Too Human is an above average game?

I'd probably play a sequel if it ditched the dual stick garbage controls, was longer than 5 minutes long and didn't have that fucking Valkyrie

I didn't find the first game fun, and I certainly played it as a button mashing arcadey game. I assume all of the other people saying "against" feel the same way. Doesn't sound like "GAF being GAF", but rather people not liking a game that they didn't like.
Eh, all that matters is if Too Human 2 is a good game or not. If SK wants to spend there time making a Too Human 2, they can. Maybe they will make the game they wanted the first time, or figure out why there first game was well received.

Games so unmemorable can't remember the name of them? But I am not going to take that fight.

I didn't say it was an above average loot game. I said it was an above average game. I enjoyed it a lot more than many higher profile games since it came out. Not going to turn it into a "your game sucks because I like my game" list war though.

Loved playing coop in the original and I can't wait for a sequel to be confirmed. If this is true, here's to hoping they take the time to get it right.

I distincly remember there also only being about 3 different types of enemy and four levels all of which looked pretty similar.

I did actually thoroughly enjoy that which was implemented but it was by far not enough to do justice to the homerian scope of epic hype said developer disseminated.

So I say FOR completing the development of Too Human. AGAINST Too Human Too.

That being said the FOR/AGAINST thread was so amusing I decided to apply for gaf membership because of it :D

Actually I don't think I care.

Too Human was first mentioned in 1999 and then it took nine years for it to manifest on a store shelf.

Too Human 2 is being mentioned in 2010 and it is really long way down to 2019. By the time it comes out it might as well be a Facebook application.

Joke post?

If you think Too Human was an above average game I'd say you need to play better games.

worse games have produced really enjoyable sequels. still, i question the logic of even bothering when you've got a real quality i.p. just waiting to be tapped. then again, i guess the whole ED thing is tied up with nintendo, so that could straighten the slinky.

Torchlight was not made for COOP, Too Human was.

Also what pissed me off greatly was with a focus on coop, the game had no local coop options even though they toned it down to 2 player.

It would take a TON of tweaks to make the game "incredible"

- Fix the awful chugging framerate
- New art design that doesn't make everything neon glowy blobs of machinery
- Get rid of the stupid control which were needlessly complicated and could have accomplished the exact same thing with a more traditional scheme
- Make the story not laughable/suck
- The custcenes... lol
- Actual 4 player coop
- Get rid of all the stupid backtracking and teleporting just to press a stupid button
- Local coop options
- Levels that look different and not same repeating nonsense
- More enemy variety, not same things just higher stats

Basically make a completely different and better game.

better yet I should just have you tell me what to think of the games I play

Too Human had an ambitious, and a very unique setting. Nobody can take that away from it.
It lacked polish, and its combat had its good and bad moments - one can argue the amount, ofc.

Btw I would seriously recommend some people in this thread to go and play with some REALLY bad games, and then go back to Too Human. Not in the same page. Go, play with licensed budget stuff, go play your Horse XY game, or some bad XBLA titles, go for it. And then try to be rational about what is "average"*

*hint: most games today are above average, or they would not even be greenlit. Of course, all above average would make good the new average, but whatever.

I don't want it to be a list war, I just really did not find it to be an above average game (whether in genre or for the generation) for so many reasons. Virtually all of the gameplay itches that would be scratched by Too Human were better scratched by other loot games this generation, for me.

for mutha fuckas!

Looking forward to the sequel (if true) and looking forward to all the twelve year olds (Kotaku included) showing up to sling shit against Silicon Knights and Dyack.

I'd buy a Too Human sequel if it actually improved upon the previous game... by a lot. I don't have faith that they would be able to pull it off though.

That's cool. I'm not saying you should like the game, just that some people did. It's doesn't seem like Silicon Knights is working on anything else though, so if you didn't like the first one why would you care if they make a new one?

better than FFXIII, and I'm not hoping Square stops making final fantasy games

Was one of my favorite games for coop this generation because it was different. Was disappointed that it wasn't 4 player but this is a chance for them to fix it if this is true. I hope this is true. I think I'm going to go play too human

For, as long as the death animation is skippable. I like Norse mythology and Too Human had a creative take on it.

This story reminds me of those news reports you see on movie sites all the time where an out of work director or producer or actor is quizzed about a sequel to that one cult franchise they made a decade ago and they say that it's coming real soon like hope will buy shit in Hollywood and the movie never ever gets greenlit.

I had high hopes for Too Human and even enjoyed the demo a lot. I was disappointed with the final product however. It was just too flawed. I really ended up hating the controls and targeting system. In the final level, I died so many times of crappy targeting and enemy design that I just gave up and sold the game. I don't think I want a Too Human 2 unless they fix the controls and game design flaws. I think the game world has potential.

I'm picturing Dyack rocking back and forth in his garage, reeking of piss and muttering to himself, attempting to build what he thinks is Too Human 2 out of bits of tin and wet cardboard.
:lol

Since Denis is probably reading this: GO AND HAVE A LOOK AT DARKSIDERS

That is something what could be the perfect vessel for carrying the Norse Cyberpunk storyline.

FOR.

I really enjoyed the first game, and look forward to an improved sequel.

Um, am I alone in thinking that's just a masked loading sequence that -- as annoying it must be for some -- is better than the usual "YOU ARE DEAD. Continue y/n?" screen?

I am for this as I liked the first one with its myriad of problems.

Human Too 2 needs a solid new art director. Make this shit happen!

I don't really get the hate for the first game. I played the demo and thought it had a lot of promise. I especially liked the tech/Norse mythology mashup that they had going on story-wise.

It certainly had gameplay problems, but I dunno if it's worth casting it onto the Bonfire of Hate +6 for all time because it had some gameplay foibles. It's hardly alone in that regard.
