This is what a friend who is clued up on this stuff messaged me with:
' Teraflop: floating point operations per second. ie. the number of operations that processor can perform on a single floating point register in any given second.
Since that's what graphics and physics is mostly about, you would think the higher number means a faster overall console, you would be wrong though, that number only comes into account when you assume everything, EVERYTHING you're going to do, is loaded into the processor registers, which it never will be, EVER.
The stuff that requires manipulation, presentation or just simply needs to be checked on, will be held in RAM.
The key to a faster console, is more RAM and FAST RAM, ie. 8gb of DDR2 dual channel is worth less than 4gb of DDR3 tri or quad channel because of the throughput on DDR3, its so much faster, it can have stuff loaded in and out so much faster, that you dont need as much (although as RAM gets faster, applications get bigger and you need more ram anyway, so this is moot).
Also, the bus speeds of the cpu and the ram should match, the closer they match, or if one a multiple of the other ie. both 200, or 1 is 300 and the other is 150, these all add up to over all power. So, what i mean by, what does FLOPS mean... it means pretty much fuck all on its own'
