Well, just don't have to buy 60 $ games for the phone so....

The first manufacturer who figures out how to combine the console with a game subscription pass like Gamepass in a meaningful way can charge 1.000+ $ for the console.

True, but they're not shitty mobile games. Also, thousands of people buy games that are $1-10 for mobile phones, on top of what they already paid for the phone.

500$ with VR2 sounds unbelievable to be honest. Rest is pretty plausible also it fits with the announcement of no E3 for Sony next year. None or less I am already excited and want to pre order XD

Think you mis-read. This rumour states 2020 as the year. Not 2019. And it’s coming from the same person who started the rumour of Sony not attending E3.

He said "march or november". Why would Sony release a console in March? So they kill their own sales for christmas? Anyone can guess that the next generation systems will come out in 2020, you don't need to be an insider to say that.

This is obviously fake.

You realise this is the same person (even the same thread) that predicted Sony will announce the next day that Sony will skip E3 2019 and was 100% right, right?

That’s not something you can just guess, the person obviously has a legit contact which makes the rest of the information very possible.

Kill? If they believe in their console March would be perfect to get it hyped up. A launch console will always be limited in terms of sales due to production shortages. If they however start selling in march they have a much longer time to prepare for a monster Holiday season.

4K/60 is a reality... in some games. If you consider that as a whole for the console, then nope.

I'm ok with 500$ as long as it is a nice hardware and not a laptop cpu like this gen.

Why would Sony release a console in March?
IKR - just look at the Switch. Released in March, it was a complete failure.

(or perhaps, since there will be supply shortages at first, releasing in March could satisfy the enthusiast market, while preparing for the mass-market during the holiday season)

The Switch followed a failed console nobody cared about. I think Sony fans are in denial. They won't show up, simply because they have nothing to show. There's no "major announcement" happening any time soon.

It says literally that in the OP (if you would read it) that they’re not showing up because they have little to show for E3.

they have however showing Death stranding for example as cross gen game would be fucking huge. And they can gather way more people for a single event. Like Apple does for example. n meeting was a huge success and now combine it with a PSX in which you maybe can even tr out the PS5 would be insane.

It's 2018, people are stupid enough to buy $1500 phones ffs, a $500 console is nothing.
Apple has cut production of the new iPhone and forecasts have been downgraded.

But again, phones and consoles are nowhere near similar. One is a status symbol for everyone, while the other is a status symbol for nerds. One goes with you everywhere and is responsible for keeping you connected to friends and family while the other sits in a basement and disconnects you from friends and family. What drives one to buy a phone versus a console is nowhere near the same impetus.

The “well if someone has $1500 for a phone they have $500 for a games console” argument is patently absurd. It’s like arguing that if someone buys a house for $300 grand then they obviously can afford a Ferrari.

Uhh, yeah? I don't think anyone is disputing this. They've pretty much laid out the plan for the coming year, we know the titles that should appear. And since even Sony (hopefully?) wouldn't be as braindead as to steal its own thunder, they will be released next year, without any hardware announcements. Or hardware releases, rather, there may be announcements.

That still doesn't explain why launching in March would be a bad idea. As said, supplies will be constrained at first, so why not release early for the type of people who'd get it on day 1, and by the holiday season Joe Average can get it easily too.

The problem is that PSX would disencourage people from spending money on the PS4 during christmas, because they'd want to save it for the PS5. Even if they don't announce it at E3, they must at least show it there, so the press and the fans can see it in action and new games for it.

Sony will have Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima I think this will be enough for the holiday season. You can not break records each year but you need a phase to prepare for the next gen.
Having not a stellar holiday will help with the pre production of the PS5 IMO.

Also showing it at PSX is also a huge blow for journalists which barely did attend PSX because there are no special times reserved for them. Which I personally think is great.

A 2020 release for PS5 seems all but locked at this point. But yikes at $500 though. I hope Sony doesn't pull a PS3 and expect us to work two jobs just to afford it.

Adjusted for US inflation, the launch price of the PS4 is roughly USD $440 in 2020 prices, so USD $500 is not that much higher considering it will have a custom chip to handle the VR split image stuff and extra inputs. We can't expect the same price forever, inflation will eventually push prices up.

500 dollars?
So I imagine £350-399/€450
I can see that being a possibility.

Americans don‘t have hidden taxes in their retail prices like socialist europe does. This will rather translate to 600 EUR. And I‘d be totally fine with that price if I‘m getting a Ryzen 2 4K „Monster“ 😅

Does it really matter when they release it? The PS5 will be sold out for some time regardless of when it hits the shelves. At least in March it'll be a bit easier for them to re-supply.

Nah i will be 499 Euro as well. There is no way they are going for 600 Euro if the base one is 500$. They are not apple.

not sure if this has been answered, but, under possible launch games, what does it mean by 'the main event'?
Exclusive Final Fantasy or Marvel Avengers^^

The main event will be the announcement that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be cancelled.
Now a PS6, Xbox Two, Nintendo Switch U, and Ouya 9000 release. With PS6 getting early access to DLC one day prior to the other consoles. Sony wins!

Cookie monster you say, how about confirming BC and start giving more DS4 options, Xbox controllers are better now because of the options they give.

The Switch sold well at 300$ with completely outdated hardware, so 500 seems reasonable if we want a significant jump from the mid gen refreshes.

I don't care about it being a graphics monster, I have a PC. I just want solid BC and 4k media support.

Also as someone else posted, if game companies keep selling physical games that require you to download half of them, I might just give up on major consoles all together.

It's some kind of monsteeeeeeeer!

Some kind of monsteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!

Some KIND of monsteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!

This monster lives!

I'm often feel like I'm the only person on earth who liked that album lol.

What the hell is the main event?

It has to be some kind of exclusive title, right? As great as I'm sure TLOU2 and Ghosts of Tsushima will be, a console launch with ports/simultaneous releases of previous gen software would be a little underwhelming, and wouldn't offer much beyond hardcore fans. Knack 3 it is then!

PS4 Pro is already there. This kind of claim is completely dependent on how developers choose to utilize graphic assets. Everyone with a gaming PC knows this.

If TLOU2 etc will be 4K checkerboard (at least) 30fps with those crappy Jaguar processors, then I'm sure the PS5 can up the framerate to 60 and the resolution to a true 4K. I suspect that true next-gen titles will be another matter entirely (likely back down to 30 fps with fancier graphics).

People aren't that broke

If they can spend $900 every two years for smartphone then $500 for a console that last for 7-8 year is a piece of cake

If it does end up releasing in Nov 2020, then you only have to save $5 a week until then (or a cup of coffee). Not such a big deal. Since it seems there are going to be a lot of PS4/PS5 cross-gen titles, I don't think there's any need to rush to buy it anyway. Your PS4 will be well-supported for at least 2021.

I'm OK with 500$ if it has decent cooling, no jet engine noise and no touch sensitive buttons. I still don't expect more than 16gb ram for that price since ram prices are insane now.
Maybe 16gb GDDR5X/6 + 4/8gb DDR3 for the secondary processor to deal with downloads and DVR.

I really hope Sony sorts this out. Whatever mistakes Microsoft may have made this gen, at least their hardware design of the last 2 years have been top notch.

EDIT: also keep in mind that by some estimates only half the country will have a 4K set by the time this launches. I understand the idea of future proofing but as of right now, the term 4K doesn’t mean fuck all to most of the public, which will replace a TV organically when it fails but not to play a video game on a $500 console. People are way overestimating the lengths people will go to play what is essentially a toy.

Actually, 50% sounds like a pretty large proportion to me. Does anyone know what percentage of people owned a HD TV when the Xbox 360 launched back in 2005? IT'd make an interesting comparison.

I played Horizon on my Pro, I don't remember it looking like ass. Was quite impressive for a console tbh.
As far as tech goes, its great. The environments/weather effects are just amazing. I spent so many moments staring at sunrise/sunset (hint to RDR2, you are doing it way too quickly). And while output is 2160c (i.e. 4K checkerboarded), for the most part it looks really crisp. There are some issues (like individual strands of hair against a heavily out-of-focus background) inherent with the process, but otherwise, it looks fantastic.

But while the motion blur implementation is good and helps to "soften the blow", so to speak, you missed a key element in the bit you quoted, which is "60fps", and which HZD is not. Personally, I'd take 2160c + 60fps any day, as opposed to native 2160p + 30fps.

Yeah I did pass over that bit :messenger_astonished: and yeah, 60 fps makes all the difference.

if i remember correctly it was about 30%. but those are % that would ever buy a console to begin with.

I think we get caught up in semantics sometimes.

Yes, 4K/60 has already been achieved on both X and Pro in certain games. I don’t think that’s the point.

I think when people tag next gen consoles as 4K/60 it’s talking about a promise of uncompromising native 4K and locked 60fps system wide, across the whole library.

(I’m not saying I expect either next gen console to pull this off. I’m just saying that’s the point of the tagline)

I’m not sure why it keeps getting pointed out that 4K/60 has already been done in some cases on X and Pro.

will it run CP2077 4K60? thats the real litmus test.
My sauces tell me that Cyberpunk 2077 will run at native 4k 59fps on PS5 and reserve true 4k 60fps+ for the PC elitists to justify their $3000 gaming rig and lack of any real human contact.

The above text is a joke. Please take it as such.

The most likely time for an announcement would be PSX 2019, given that December 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the PlayStation brand, so what better way to celebrate 25th years of PlayStation then announcing a new console?

And about the pricing, regardless of what we feel about $500, the only was that this would be a bad thing for Sony is if Microsoft comes out and says that the Xbox Scarlett will be $100 cheaper, otherwise this would not affecting the PS5's sales.
