• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Ryse locked at 30fps, no screen tearing.

I don't want to say it..hmm no i don't because well i laugh and cry at the same time now.

Whats better?, the only game that imo can match it is Killzone, in fact its only those 2 gmes that really stand out as what i expected from next gen games (from the launch games).

Killzone says otherwise.

1080p @ 30/60 fps with a ton more shit going on.

Overall Killzone is doing more things on screen and the resolution/MP framerate are better, but if you asked me which game looks better based on in-game screenshots, I would go with Ryse. Mind you that's entirely my opinion and I can see how Killzone would look better to someone else.

Either way, even with the apparent spec difference between PS4 and XBone, Ryse is still one of the best looking things we've seen. To have the game running at 30 fps and 900p seems about right.

Killzone, Killzone, Killzone.

Game looks amazing, but for hardware that is only 66% as powerful as the PS4 and is apparently harder to develop for, I think Ryse's graphics are quite an accomplishment.

Both games still seem somewhat boring to me.

I would assume that they mean min fps 30, locked only means it will not go over 30, TLoU and GTA V were both locked 30 fps games....

Game still doesn't look that interesting, if I can find a demo unit with it running, I will give it a try, but it certainly doesn't entice me to buy a Xbone at launch.

Well it looks next gen

On screens at least. They need to get some new animators.

Eh..... Ryse has KZ beat in quite a few visual areas. the facial animations and character models are near cgi.

I never understand how cgi became a word for like movies only (?), video games are Computer-generated imagery too, even the shitty looking ones... not to mention there's lots of shitty made animated movies.

How do you know that the AI in Killzone is better?

We can only hope nothing goes below this next gen

I love such a sentences :) More things? Like what? :>
Killzone has more particle effects and the draw distance is greater. MP FPS games always have a lot of things going on simultaneously whereas Ryse's MP is pretty much confined to a few characters in a smaller arena.

Also, I was just using his/her phrasing.

ehhh. kinda wish they toned down the character models during gameplay (camera is already quite zoomed out anyways and you wouldn't be caring about faces much) for a bit higher framerate.

I'm usually fine with 30fps for games, but 60fps would be ideal for action games especially ones like this where timing is a crucial part.

Cool. The latest trailer had tearing in some of the gameplay footage scenes, but not in others, so must have been created in part based on an old build. The portions with no tearing had frame skips though (but not much). I wish they would release some single play gameplay footage of the game, the last trailer was mostly cutscenes, and they were indeed frame locked.

I believe the Ryse twitter also tweeted we could expect some new gameplay trailer soonish.

Sweet! Reading everyone on here's initial impression almost made me cancel my preorder. I'm glad this game as come a long way.

Sparks, smoke, npcs, particle effects, ai etc

Sparks? Nope.
Npcs? I havent seen any scene from KZ:SF with 40-50 npcs, so nope
Particles effects? Beach scene has tons of particle effects, so also nope
AI? Could be.

What about post processing effects? Shadow Rendering? Water rendering? Vegetation Rendering? Cloth physics? LoD transitions? Lighting?

wow.. the guy watching a offscreen video of a demo of a multiplayer is really trying to argument with someone playing the final game?

btw that build from the gamersyde video was bugged. There were others videos from the same location running without tearing.

Actually water looks honestly so-so. Those splashes the characters make are just simple round expanding texture on flat surface. It ruins any kind of more advanced stuff they have going with reflections and whatnot. I also hope they don't do the single frame DOF switch like the last trailer showed, and can pull off something more gradual. That has always bothered me in games last gen, and the last trailer of Ryse had the same thing.
