Saints Row Demo in stores now!

Nope - there's probably another incredibly handsome and intelligent guy that thought the same thing elsewhere - unless you meant what I wrote a couple posts up, which slightly resembles what I wrote just now...

Try to hit EB today or tomorrow. The one near me just got there's this morning.
Heh, wow, I checked another gamestop and another 2 EBs and they didn't even get it in the shipments. I wouldn't mind so much if I had internet at home, and could download from xbl, but I don't, so I'm screwed.
I just can't believe I cussed out the manager at toys'r'us XD

I can't believe you cussed out the TRU manager either, it isn't that crucial.

I am going to give some impressions about the demo, if someone thinks I should spoiler the impressions, let me know.

I got the demo at EB. I checked out the "making of" movie on there. For some reason, seeing HD content no matter what it is, is impressive. The "making of" was pretty light, talking more about the game itself than the making of it. About the only behind the scenes info was showing the Violition studios and the celebs who did voice acting. An impressive list of people. Throughout the movie, they make comparisons to GTA, without mentioning the game.

There are also a themes and gamer pics from the game to install to your 360. There is a bit of the soundtrack, like 4 songs you can listen to. The David Banner song is better than anything that was on his last CD, IMO. There is a trailer for the game on there. Basically telling the story of the game. Seems it is going to be a deep story well past the premise of the demo.

Then there is the demo itself. I had a ton of fun with this game. If you saw the video from the demo in this thread you know what to expect. But seeing a GTA game with 360 graphics is incredible. So clean, so detailed, I like it. Just a few things not on the demo, I went to a clothes store to get gear the same color as the gang I was in, as I got all purple stuff, a meter that looked like a respect meter went higher. I think I got it to like 90%. Not sure what effect this has in the game though. One last thing about the store, the clothes I got were on sale, 30% off. I didn't hear a commercial on the radio about it as the car I was in at the time didn't have a radio on and I couldn't figure out how to turn it on. I did jack alot of different cars and they all drive differently. They all can take alot of damage, but they will all eventually blow up. But I did find a garage that could fix your car for you. Looks like that the cost of the repair varies based on how much damage is done to the car. That same mechanic does upgrades to the car as well, but not in the demo. Back the the radio, I did some looking around the options, it appears you can pick playlists from the 360 as well to play. This would be cool as you can make a station of all NWA, Easy-E, 90s gangsta rap if you want. One thing I really liked was that if you are on foot or even driving, if a car drives by that is playing music loud, you hear the bass just like in real-life.

As much as I hated the GTA shooting style, I did miss the ability to lock-on to people. I really didn't notice much aiming assist or anything, but it took a minute to manually lock on to people you wanted to shoot. In one part of the demo, the cops chase you. I let them catch up and tried to lost them. Just one cop stays on your ass like you had 4 stars in GTA! But I did get out, he got out to shoot at me (all the while ducking behind his car so he wouldn't get hit), and I blew up his car with a pipe bomb as he was calling for back-up. At that point the chase was over, no back-up showed up or anything.

Obviously this is a GTA-Clone. It seems like a next-gen GTA to me, or what I would expect of a next-gen GTA. Not much difference there and definitely no disappointment overall. As far as the complaints of it being a ghost town, in some areas, like on main streets there were tons and tons of people all with their own AI. Like some would run when guns are fired, some will just sit there, some will fire back! Same thing with the amount of traffic on these streets, those streets had a ton of cars and would get into their own wrecks. Some would speed, some would drive slow though things seemed alot more orderly than GTA in that respect. But there were some streets that had NO ONE on it. At one point in the demo you have to get a vehicle to fit 3 people, I botched the first carjack attempt, then I had to wait a minute or 2 for another 4-door SUV. During the wait there was literally no one on the streets. As I drove a few blocks away, there were tons of people and traffic.

Last story about it, I carjacked an SUV with a bike on top of it. I thought it was some good variety. I got to where I was going and got out and realized I had jacked the car with a passenger in the back! He never got out and was on the trip with me! He jumped out running and screaming.

I have no doubt that Rockstar will step it up for GTA4. That is the only thing making them money, so they can't afford for Saint's Row to be better. But I do think that SR will be VERY popular. Very popular. It will be interesting to see if this cuts into GTA sales.

Cars with four passengers is one of the little things that makes this even more awesome, hijacking a family trip! :lol

As for Rockstar, Saint's Row is a good thing for the consumer. Rockstar now have to look at Saint's Row and attempt to better it in every aspect!

I don't understand how the **** a demo can be instore and in the new OXM, but god damn Microsoft still won't put it up on XBL.

The demo is an incentive for people to preorder the game and from my understanding, it's not in this OXM, but in the next.

Pre-orders ofcourse :). But then again, what about the people overseas? They don't get demo discs with pre-orders and neither in OXM ( yeah well, 3 August ).

The EB guy called me about 8:30 and told me the demo disc was ready for me to pick up. Too bad they close at 9, so I'll have to pick it up tomorrow.

Good shit man. This game is pre-ordered. **** the demo. I wont even play it now.

I placed a preorder today and was disappointed to learn that instead of the demo I get a Saint's Row faceplate. Exclusive to NZ apparently. I hate faceplates.

It's so weird that a game that has always been so off-putting to me has gotten such positive impressions.

I mean, I thought I knew the gems from the duds on the 360, but this shocked me.

I just checked the www.THQ.co.uk site for details on the Euro demo, but there's no info up there yet... there's a pretty impressive looking preview round-up though... even ultra-cynical Eurogamer seems to be impressed.

Mind you - that is according to the THQ website, so I dare say it's quite selective.

... and there's virtually no info on the THQ.com website. Which is odd, considering the US has to be the bigger market for something like this?

I demand some kind of pre-order gift and I demand it now!

Holy shit this game rocks. Two examples of rockage:

1) I hit a guy with a baseball bat. As he ran away, he screamed "Whatever I did, I'm sorry!"

2) I punched the back of a car with two of my gang members nearby. One of them immediately opened fire on the car while the other dragged the driver from the vehicle and beat him to death.

Damn.. sold.

Yea i got the OXM issue yesterday and the game is a ****ing blast.

Simply beating people is so much fun because of how great the physics are, kick them in the leg and watch as it goes limp and they fall haha :D

Chromehounds has changed everything. I don't know what's up and what's down anymore.

So I hit a cop today accidently and he rushed me. In the end it was him on the ground, and I swear a DONUT. He dropped his precious.

I love you, Saints Row.

Thank you OXM magazine subscription, you have finally actually came in use, and werent delivered 3 weeks after the magazine hit stands.

Before I break it down, do you honestly think Saint's Row is a factor? I mean seriously. Only Allard could be that delusional about something related to Xbox360.

One last thing - Saint's Row as a factor? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAA.

Hehe, just having fun. I should have been banned for that posting in that thread but meh.

The positive impressions are one thing, but how it sells is another (and is what I primarily argued).

The game sounds so damn impressive. I liked the hostage mission and instigating armed robbery of a store. If this game lives up to the previews and demo with a little advertising this could be the system seller MS has been waiting for. From the sound of it this game has a very good chance of knocking off GTA as the gansta game.

The next, and almost certainly our favorite right now, was an "insurance fraud" mission, where we were able to earn a decent amount of money by deliberately throwing our guy under moving vehicles and making sure that there were pedestrians in the area to witness it.

:lol :lol

Great impressions...it really seems like, yeah, Volition used GTA as an inspiration. That's a definite. However, they've taken aspects that weren't even thought of in that series and have included them in Saint's Row. So even if it's a "rip-off" by normal standards, the fact is that they've added all this entirely new really cool stuff, AS WELL as being next-gen, I've gotta applaud them for that.

A month ago I was proclaiming this game to be absolutely atrocious and now I can't wait for it to come out. Amazing.

I don't know how some people liking this game has to do with what I feel about the quality, or how much it sells. I still think it looks awful. But I haven't played it yet, so that's all I say.

I agree. I thought this game would be horrible and I had no hype about it. Until I saw the demo video then I actually played it. It is the real deal fo sho.

I feel the same way.
However if the demo is good, I might purchase it.
