I don't think anyone has claimed that Samsung's mobile hardware design has been its strong suit.Samsung is really stagnating with this design. I mean it's just a bigger screen! One more row of widgets?! How innovative.

I think he is making a sarcastic joke by saying the same things people said about the iphone 5.I don't think anyone has claimed that Samsung's mobile hardware design has been its strong suit.

Pause for your latest Galaxy S IV news break ahead of the March 14th unveiling: Samsung's Mobile US Twitter account has posted this picture showing what appears to be a smartphone (shocker!) -- that matches our existing Galaxy S III 1:1 minus the earpiece and with a slightly shifted logo FWIW -- shrouded in shadow. We'll understand if you've been overtaken by awe and need a moment, Jeremy certainly seemed impressed.
I'm not putting up any money but I agree.$10 bucks says this isnt the final look.

People are getting played by Samsung. This is their thing.
So uh, it might be the final design:

I wish my iPhone screen was that size
yes, they're exactly the type of company that would spend time just to mess with people. Didn't they purposely spread fake info last year before the S3? I wouldn't be surprised if this was real and I also wouldn't be surprised if it were a fakeout. Actually I'd be a bit surprised if it was real.It is?

yess and they "leaked" beforehand too.Pyro's referring to the fact that Samsung had about 2 or 3 different types of dummy shells on the test units out in the public last year for the SIII.
I've yet to see any actual photographs of prototypes, only renders.yess and they "leaked" beforehand too.
Also now apparently they have 4-5 different prototypes in the wild.
lol I remember that. The verge was SO sure about the teardrop thing.I've yet to see any actual photographs of prototypes, only renders.
Anyways, every company seems to do this (except for Motorola). HTC had that weird design fakeout prior to the full One leak. Apple had that teardrop tapered rumor that had three months of life before the 4S murdered it in its sleep.

Anyway yeah it just makes no sense to show the final design when we're days away. It'll be interesting.

It's the hype cycle. The overwhelming crowd will say "DISAPPOINTING, NO INNOVATION." regardless of the company.Yeah. It kind of looks like a placeholder/generic render to me. I'm gonna take this with a grain of salt, but I fear being disappointed Thursday.
if it is real though and that's actually it, then they 100% are showing it now just to temper expectations on the hardware design lol.Occam's Razor man
yess and they "leaked" beforehand too.
there were multiple s3 leaksThe actual Galaxy S III design did leak, though. Several times.
These are all pretty clearly the final design, just put in a case that squares off the edges (you can see the seam where the actual phone meets the case).
there were multiple s3 leaks
the thing is, that leak features everything that was rumoured by sammobile themselves EXCEPT the hardware design. So that's a little suspect. They said it will be shaped like the S2.There were, I'm just saying - it's totally possible one of the leaks of the S IV is legit. And I suspect the most recent ones are, especially given that teaser image.
it is a little funny though. THE NEXT BIG THING! It's the same as the old thing but the specs are better! kid opening a box and a magical glow is coming out. And it's the same. lol.I think overall, we all make too many judgments based on how the phone looks rather than how it feels in hand or use.
I mean, honestly, 99% of us is not going to use a HTC One, iPhone 5, Lumia 920 and a S4. If anything, we'll play around with the savagely abused units at our local Best Buy or carrier store for a little bit.

But seriously though, if the PHOLED rumours are true and it really is 25% more efficient and the battery really is a good one, then who cares if it is shaped/looks the same.
I hope they fucking slow their role on certain things. Turn the focus to better batteries, less bezzle/smaller dimensions in general, better camera sensors not just more megapixels. Things like that. Refine what we already have rather than trying to think of new shit (re: bigger shit).I have to think that upgrade fatigue is going to set in the next few years as the feature set really plateaus.
Unless there's some massive innovation in battery life...but that won't happen.
We're already sort of there (high DPI screens, lightness, premium feel). Cameras are going to plateau because there's only so much space for a sensor. I imagine Apple is going to try something new there - maybe the "ultrapixel" sampling down that the HTC One uses. Except they'll do a better job of executing on it.I hope they fucking slow their role on certain things. That Pureview Nokia camera is a complete nonstarter. You can't place a hump that size in any flagship phone. Full-frames like the Sony RX-1 even just won't fit in a smartphone chassis.
But, yeah, battery life is something that the whole electronics industry has been stuck on for at least twenty years. There's a ton of money being thrown at the problem, but we haven't come up with anything that is denser and safe than Lithium Ion at this point.
Time to piss.

Physical and capacitive button fail.
That nonsense is old hat. Onscreen buttons are the future.
but rather than coming up with endlessly bigger screens they can try to get more efficient ones for instance. Like the S4 is rumoured to have, though we'll have to see about that. We're already sort of there (high DPI screens, lightness, premium feel). Samsung could learn a thing or two about design from HTC. The One looks amazing, and that's what everyone seems to be saying about it as well.
I can't tell if this is a passive aggressive Lumia 920 comment or not?if only someone gets bold and makes a phone a bit thicker and includes a better camera sensor and bigger battery.
and i don't mean 'thick', i mean sub 10mm but thicker than now!
So far both HTC and Sony have shown some beautiful phones this year. Hopefully Samsung does something to improve the look of their phones.

I actually wish Apple had kept the 5 at 4/4S thickness. Nobody complained about the "heft" of those phones. The 5 would've been lighter by default because it didn't use glass for the entire back panel. That would've driven the conversation towards packing in more battery life. I hope. I'm probably wrong, though.
What we really need is: Motorola's willingness to pack in the battery life with a wider frame and HTC's design chops.
'people' said that about the One X too.Samsung could learn a thing or two about design from HTC. The One looks amazing, and that's what everyone seems to be saying about it as well.
I'm 100% for this. The obsession with absolute thinness must end if it means we can have truly better things inside.if only someone gets bold and makes a phone a bit thicker and includes a better camera sensor and bigger battery.
