Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County.

It hit all the right (or wrong) notes. My irrational fear for aliens, combined with "realistic" home video footage and the fact that you don't actually get to see the aliens but know they're there. Just the fact that the aliens are basically taunting the family before going in. Horrendous. Still don't want to rewatch that till today.

The big friendly giant

Basically the whole movie is terrifying as a kid.

I mean, just look at the first 10 minutes of the movie!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb-FtNPmhsI

  • The opening visuals and music. Could they be any creepier?
  • The opening scene where the giant is walking down the streets and the orphan catches it while watching through the window
  • The giant taking the orphan
  • The visuals when the giant goes to his world
  • The super giants that the giant has to be careful for

This movie was such a mindfuck for me. For yeaaaaaars I didn't dare to look out my window at night, for yeaars I only wanted to enter my room at night when the curtains were already closed. For years I dreamed of giants trying to catch me.

Despite it being a kids comedy, Hocus Pocus freaked me out when I was about 6 or 7.

Also developed a morbid fear of fire after seeing it ravage a building in a BBC One show called The Demon Headmaster. Anyone else remember that?

Yeah, I was a real wuss when I was younger. :P

The nuke dream from T2. Made me fearful of the end of the world, and nuclear war in general. (Was my first R rated movie.... when I was 11)

Aliens 2 in general, but the chest buster scene in particular.

The Ring. (wasnt really a kid anymore....) I went into this movie with no foreknowledge of what it was... looking back I quite like it, but man at the time.

(2/3 are James Cameron movies. Damn you Jim.)

Haven't seen this posted yet.

This scene fucked me up for a very long time. I only found out when I was in my twenties that the movie was supposed to be a comedy. My uncles let me watch it at age 4 thinking it would be a silly horror comedy like fucking Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4cyauCH_gg

Fucking show was scary and the theme song still puts chills up my spine.

I loved unsolved and unexplained stories, especially ghosts and UFOs. I read tons of books as a kid, but for some reason actually SEEING it on screen was really scary. My family always sat down and watched UM with each other and I would sit there and literally PRAY that it would just be a few unsolved crimes and there would be no supernatural stories that night.

I can't find an image of the exact scene.

Freaking ET.. when he is all white and laying in the ditch. Freaked me out for years. My whole family knows that this still bugs me so they often set up the DVD to play that scene when I come over still today.

Jerks.

Can you guys help me identify the scene? I saw this movie on TV when I was very young and only saw bits of it. I was too scared to watch the rest of it so I have no idea where it's from, or if it's even a movie.

Warning Vague Memories Ahead

I think astronauts or something find like a floating box or whatever in space with a naked woman inside. They bring her back and put her in a hospital or something. She suddenly wakes up and kisses a guy. The guy immediately turns into a skeleton.

I saw this is in very early 90s on TV. Maybe 1991 or something like that.

Lifeforce?

any time the graboids appeared in tremors. this movie scared the shit out of me. the idea that at any moment you could be pulled under the ground and eaten by a giant worm was terrifying. it also played on that childhood hot lava game where the floor was lava and any other furniture was safe.

best scene

it's now one of my favorite movies. best b movie ever.

also, war of the worlds 2005 (not really childhood, i was 15 when it came out, but still scary)
this scene in particular
that damn sound they make

More specifically

That and The Skeksis scared the ever loving crap out of me when I was 8 watching it in the movie theater.
DarkCrystalSkeksis2.jpg

Yeah. The scene where the strip that Skeksis of his robes was in particular fucking distrubing

unicron5.jpg

This scene scared me shitless as a child when this first came out to video (wasn't able to see it in the theaters). The colors, the red hue in a few angles left a massive impression on me and I was not able to see this scene again for years, not to mention Unicron.

Unbelievably I still have the occasional nightmare to this day.

Scarier still is the japanese version, as they added screams of terror to the inhabitants.

internet high-five.

Arachnophobia is the correct answer, even if you haven't seen the movie.

That movie single-handedly destroyed all muscle memory of toilet training, it was that frightening.

I cannot remember being scared by any movie when I was little. I was a wimp, so I was probably scared a lot, but I guess it's been repressed or something. But I didn't watch too many scary movies anyway - The Gremlins was as scary as it came.

I got scared when a little older, though, by this:

The Langoliers.

Terrible movie, but the whole concept behind it was amazing and terrifying.

There are three that come to mind.

The first is that scene in Ghostbusters when the woman opens her refrigerator, and sees that crazy twilight realm with some weird dog-worm shadow thing reigning over it all on his floating throne. Shit freaked me out, single-handily increased my child's superstition tenfold, and destroyed my tiny little comprehension of reality.

The second was the nurse station scene from Exorcist III.
Pretty self-explanatory. I was up past my bedtime in the dark all alone, watching this movie that I wasn't supposed to see. I think I almost died from fright. Something about the unmoving camera and the pedestrian, hallway perspective was really shocking.

The third one I can remember is a movie I had when I was very young. It was called Cinderella and Friends, and I still have the VHS but sadly can't find any clips of it on Youtube.
It was a bunch of animated short stories, it had Cinderella, a story about the Trojan Horse, one about Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel & Gretel, and others.

Most of the stories had at least one scene that I found deeply terrifying. There was some seriously fucked up stuff in those from what I remember. I used to scream, cry and bury my head under the pillows whenever my mother put this on, and she used to make me watch it anyways because it was a gift from someone.

Probably shouldn't have been allowed to watch this when I was 10, Killer Bob gave me quite a few nightmares. But it did start my appreciation for David Lynch I guess...

When I was about 7yrs old I watched Wes Craven's 'Shocker' and the bodyswap chase scene through the park scared me and stuck with me for a long time.

Not long after that I saw John Carpenter's 'The Thing' and that was full of scary stuff, but the scene that stuck with me was the tentacle dogs as that was the first time we really saw The Thing.

Return to Oz, a very fucked up sequel to the Wizard of Oz
Yeah. This was the only movie that would make me cry when I was little. When the witch shows up for the first time in it, I just couldn't hold back my tears.

Man I loved to watch Tremors as a kid. But there was one scene that always used to really unnerve me; when they pick the hat off the ground.

Probably that Ernest Halloween special that I can't remember the name. In particular the part when the kid is laying on his bed and turns around and sees a fucking troll laying beside him.

NSFW gif

I don't know why but the shower scene from 13 ghost was fucken scary for me, i didn't want to shower for a couple of days. if i would watch it again today it would probably be a really lame movie though.
btw dem tits

I saw the scenes of Fire in the Sky as a kid, but never knew what it was. Nor did I want to.

Thanks a lot, GAF. >_>

There was another movie that I saw as a kid that was horrifying, but I can't remember anything about it other than people burning up from the inside, eyes and mouth lighting up first... I only saw a minute of it, but it was nasty.
