SCEA: PS3 Supply May Be "Tight" In Coming Months

The first time I saw this thread, I figured it couldn't be real. Then when I went to look at Amazon and Newegg today, they were both sold out.

If they are not back in stock within the next few days, I'm just going to pass on the PS3 until Last Guardian.

As I posted in the other thread, I ended up going with craigslist since someone was selling a brand new slim (it was 100%), no stores around me have any PS3's (fat or slim) atm..

Another factor could be that Sony is getting ready to retool thier Fab. chains for a 45 nanometer RSX.
The process shrinks for RSX always seems to be a bout 8 to 10 months behind the process shrinks for Cell.
So we could see A reduced RSX at the end of summer.

Any chance it might include PS2 BC?

Slim to none. aka NO chance in hell.

Full PS2 "Software" emulation seems to be impossible on the PS3. Given the exotic nature of the PS2 architecture and it's crazy fast bandwidth, your going to need some PS2 hardware inside. Namely the GPU. The PS3 just dosen't have the horse power to do brute force software PS2 emulation and Sony's not going to start sticking PS2 gpu's on the PS3 boards. This has more to do with the weird way the PS2 did things, then the power of the PS3. It would be way easier to emulate the Dream cast or Xbox1 on the PS3 then to get PS2 emulation up and running.

At this point, you can just hope that the PS4 will be powerful enough to emulate the PS2

Anecdotal evidence: my friend is looking to pick up a PS3 and a copy of MAG, but can't find a PS3 anywhere in our fairly small town.

You can still order from Amazon. They keep getting more in stock and they sell out, but if you order you'll be fine.

How about God Of War 3 which comes out in the next few days (16th March)? Not interested in that?

Wow even Newegg has run out, which is where I got mine a month ago when Amazon said 1-2months to ship :lol

Took Newegg 3 days.

/places tinfoil hat

Maybe they limited supply to match with what they were saying about supply being tight.

THINK ABOUT IT.

Why is that? Bad management on Sony's behalf? Or are they revamping the Ps3 again?
I never understood these shortages warnings.

Maybe everyone in his thread defending the tight supply works for SCEA?

Maybe EviLore does?

It isn't his job to search around for a consumer product that is normally widely distributed just so he can have the priveledge of shelling out $300 dollars.

Maybe that is our jobs with stuff like cars, where you might search far and wide for specific makes, colors, models, etc. But a PS3?

That said, God of War 3 will be pretty cool. I would just order online if I didn't have a PS3, but I can see where the reaction comes from.

To be fair, they have told this exact same story before and it was a lie that time. Boy who cried wolf and all that rot.

I really have to restate this is fucking awful timing for a shortage. Can't win for losing sometimes.

My ps3 died a few days ago and I had a hell of a time finding a replacement. Went to 6 stores before finding one at a Shopko, which is like a low rent Target here in Madison. I figured nobody would go there to buy a PS3, which was right since they had 2 in stock. Freakout averted.

I played both of the PS2 games, but finished neither. They start out strong but the combat tends to wear thin for me after a few hours. Fun, but not something I would buy at launch for full price.

The main reason I'm thinking about a PS3 now is that several of my coworkers are going to be buying FFXIII on launch day, and I'll want to be playing it at the same time so I can take part in the water cooler talk. If I can't be assured of receiving the PS3 by launch day, I would rather just buy the marginally inferior 360 version of the game.

Last Sunday I was at FutureShop and BestBuy, they had tons of PS3's around in Windsor, ON. May be those of you who can't find a PS3 should cross the border and buy them here :D

Like I said, you can still order it off Amazon, they'll ship it when it comes back in stock, and it has been periodically in and out of stock so you'll likely get it within a week or so. You can also try retail shops. I know Frys, GameStop/EB has them in currently.

Maybe Jack Tretton should be offering $1,200 again for any system found in stores.

Still at it eh! Keep on fighting dude, sooner or latter maybe someone will pay attention to you.

I haven't seen any in a few weeks except the small 2 or 3 per week GS and GC may be getting. I did also see some 349 dollar 260GB SLIM's. I haven't seen a 120 in a while. Hopefully they can get their supply in order in the next week or two in time for GoW3.

Word of advice for people with one local. Don't call, but go to Sears and ask. I've directed several people there and mostly all of them managed to find a 120GB unit. Took them a while as they still do the shipping dock thing.

Yes, I already have it ordered from Amazon, but if they don't get a new shipment by Tuesday or Wednesday, I'm canceling it and going the 360 route.

The ball is in your court, Sony.

The import shop where I ordered my Slim had trouble to secure one of the 120gigger for me. They told me their US/NA wholesale channel was dried up. I was lucky though, they managed to pull back stock from a befriended store, that they supplier earlier.

Sold out everywhere in San Antonio. Unbelievable, since when was it ever hard to find a Playstation 3?

Ugh. So close to FF13's release too. This is painful.

:lol

I couldn't find a PS3 in the Seattle/Tacoma area until I went to the Fort Lewis PX and found a stack of 40ish of em, both the 120 and 250 gigs.

Yup, the only place in San Antonio is a store that sells exclusively to the military.

Shit. Guess I'll have to order online.
