Screw it! I finally bought a Wii U

Can you upgrade the amount of storage your Wii U has? There only seems to be 8GB and 32GB versions, doesn't sound very much if you buy digital.

You can hook up almost any USB device you want. There are only some that are supported by Nintendo, but I've read of people even using some USB sticks. The recommended are usually USB HDD drives with external power supply.

Is it worth buying the $200 refurb vs the $330 MK8 Bundle?

Seems like between the motion controller, mk8 and the download code game you get more for the latter package? Motion Controller ($30) + 2 games($120 total) = $150

I bought Mario Kart 8 and I'm hesitating between Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101.

Both are games I'd rather have on physical format but they're the only ones I'm interested in / don't already have.

I played the W101 demo and it didn't convince me, but demos aren't necessarily repressentative of the final game's quality.
I never played Pikmin but I've rarely been disappointed by a Nintendo game.

Decisions, decisions. What should I get ?

The W101 demo isn't representative. It's chaotic action. It's quite fun if you like that kind of thing.

On the other hand, Pikmin 3 is (to me) clearly the superior game. Wonderful story mode, and addictive mission mode. It's also easily the best in the series. I have both on disc, and wouldn't want to switch to digital. Also, if you don't like W101, you could still sell it if you own the disc. Or you could try to sell the code, and use the money to get a retail copy of either game.

Both games are really good btw, i just liked P3 more.

You can get a free game if you buy MK8 separately as well (at least in Europe, so i guess that's worldwide). So you could still get a refurb, buy Mario Kart and a controller for less money and get the free game. Your call.

I'm actually facing the same dilemna. I wanted to pick W101 initially, but I'm now looking at Pikmin 3. I will probably take both eventually, but it seems that W101's price is dropping quicker (though there is the risk that it will run out of stock ~ in that case, prices may skyrocket).

Ah, decisions...

Edit: I was responding to Tribes of Trusty's last post. Man, people reply quickly on this thread.

Pikmin isn't likely to get cheaper anytime soon, so there's that. It's also a rather light install while W101 takes a lot of space. And the box art of W101 is glorious, so imho take Pikmin in digital for free and buy W101 physically.

You can buy MK8 alone and get the deal still, so that would put you at $250. Then add a motion + controller and you're at $280-290 for the same content.

So, ask yourself if you want to save approximately $30-40 to go refurbished instead of new. Both are great deals.

You can use external Hard Drives on Wii U.

Only with external storage via USB.

Yes..you can use external hard disk to increase the storage..

Thanks all. At this point I've basically made the decision that I will buy a Wii U, just don't have the cash at the moment, so have to wait a while.

For all the good exclusives people have noted already but I can tell you that even though I have the other consoles as well, I waited for a couple third party games to come out on the U and boy was it worth the wait.

- Assassin's Creed Black Flag
- Mass Effect 3
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut (EXCELLENT!)

I'm a fairly new member here, I'm glad I found a bunch of people who also love Nintendo as much as I do. I was told I would find that kinda community here, and amazingly enough, people were right.

looks like a lot more ppl are saying screw it. its not like wii u is a reject console. its just that i dont like any games for xboxone or ps4 until bloodborne and scalebound.

Kinda like how I felt about the Wii U up to about this point, beforehand there was just nothing there that made me really want one. Now there is.

you should still check out some of the titles already released. Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Mario 3D World, Wonderful 101 are all top notch

Just a reminder (at least to PAL Gaffers). Brain Training is free on eShop (at least Wii U) until early July or something so go pick it up while it's hot!
That just installed automatically and was a nice surprise when I launched the quick start menu on gamepad.
I'm 70 yeras old :(

I went into my local GAME earlier and asked the manager how the system has been doing recently over here (in the UK), and he told me the Mario Kart bundle is mostly sold out.

There was also a lot of interest from people when they came in the store, which surprised me.

hot damn, this thread is moving at a much more rapid pace now!

good on all yall who just got a Wii U. such a gem of a console, if I do say so

Super Mario 3D World is what sold me on a Wii U and it's still my favorite game on the system. It's also, without a doubt, my favorite game this gen thus far.

I guess I should post here since I bought a Wii U last week and I am totally happy with it. I am one of those same guys that went into threads anti-Gamepad, too.

I bought the Mario Kart 8 Wii bundle along with Wind Waker HD and Wonderful 101. The free game that I will choose after July 1st a toss between Mario and Pikmin. I'll most likely go with Mario since Pikmin never interested me.

Have you ever played a Pikmin game?

Pikmin never appealed to me until I actually played it.

you have so many Wii games to go back and play!

As a guy who enjoys most Nintendo first party games, and is open to pretty much anything, do you have a top 5-10 suggestions of Wii games to get?

My 25+ game PS3/PS4/Vita backlog is screaming obscenities as I type this. Suck it games!

The Wonderful 101 is the poster child of this sentiment. The demo does have a mode that lets you experiment with the controls and combat system but you really do have to sink time into the full game to really understand how truly amazing it is. The gameplay is very deep and has extremely satisfying combat feedback; by that I mean beating the shit out of bad guys feels better in this game than in any other game I've played. It's also quite a lengthy game with a very fun, self-aware story and one of the best soundtracks in any videogame to date.

I didn't care for the demo either and I was about to return the game early on, but I kept with it and found out that I wasn't having fun simply because it hadn't clicked yet. It does require some patience, but when it did click I started to like it more and more and Kamiya's vision really started to make sense and shine. If I had returned the game, it would have been the single worst fucking mistake I've ever made as a gamer.

Absolutely get No More Heroes 1/2, NMH is one of my favourite games ever. That said, I just started NMH1 up last night, it hasn't aged very well!

Wario Land Shake It is fun and has a great look, as does Super Paper Mario. Zack and Wiki is a great puzzle game. Metroid Prime Trilogy is worth getting as well.

If you plan on homebrewing it, Quake GX is a really nice way to play an FPS classic.

I'd recommend

Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
Operation Rainfall Trilogy ( Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil REmake (especially if you haven't played the GC version)
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Madworld
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Wii Sports Resort

Wow I never knew this existed. Cool!

I will shamefully admit, i have not owned a nintendo console since SNES. Yet, I'm mulling over if i want a wii u or not. I just can't decide if i want to jump in right now or wait a little longer for a price drop and just a few more games.

I was in your situation befor jumping on the WiiU, not properly played a Ninty console since SNES. I say, unless you detest Nintendo games take the leap. I hardly touch my PS3/4/xbone consoles since I bought it. You have to research the Wii library too, its filled with awesome(if you can stomach the SD.)

If you jump in now you could pick up a Mario Kart bundle and grab the free game (even if you don't like MK you can sell it and get a little money back).

However if you're unsure there is a possibility that over the summer Nintendo could announce a new bundle and/or price cut for the holidays (possibly just in time for Smash Bros).

So ordered a Wii U yesterday. I checked out club nintendo and I need to spend 160 coins by the end of the month. I'm looking at Kirby/Mario Party 2. I remember MP2 being one of the best but I'm a little hesitant as it says Wii/Wii U and I remember Wii games not being able to use the gamepad. Would that affect this? Would I be able to play this on the gamepad at my bed without a tv? Thanks.

I posted this in a few other threads, but I got a Wii U Wednesday.

Got the Mario Kart 8 bundle and bought Super Mario 3D World with it. Picked Wonderful 101 as my MK8 bonus game, but due to regional stuff, I'll have to wait until August for W101. Ah, well, I got two awesome games to play as is.

Need to get used to how SM3DW controls. You have a dash button in a 3D game? That's kind of odd. Cat Peach is cute, but I gotta admit, seeing Peach get her hands on a Fire Flower after so many games is nice. Go Fire Peach!

I too got a wii u early this week. It's a mario kart bundle. Also got donkey kong tropical freeze and a wii u pro controller. As my free game i was going to get wind waker. But after 4 days they still didn't sent me the code so i bought wind waker. If they someday send me the code i think i'll choose pikmin 3.

So far i'm enjoying my new purchase.

boomerang peach is the best peach

Man, for the first time since the Gamecube I'm seriously considering buying a Nintendo console that isn't a handheld. I love my 3DS and I'm not as burnt out from first party exclusives as other people are because quite frankly, I haven't played that many during the last decade or so (at least on a home console). I mean, I can't even remember the last time I played a Mario game. It will also allow me to catch up on some of the Wii exclusives that I missed out on. Time to do some research.

My finger is on the trigger...

Yes, they updated the Wii mode to mirror the TV on the gamepad. You can't use the gamepad controls, but you can use the Wii Remote as a controller. The gamepad camera will even act as a Wii Sensor for pointer games.

Registering the game on Club Nintendo should have prompted you to select which game you wanted and the code should have been presented to you immediately.

obviously you should decide for yourself

but if you missed the entire wii generation this should be a no brainer imo

you would have, quite literally, hundreds of different games to choose from

Thanks. I will pass on it then and pick up kirby instead.

Is there an expiration time for the free game you get? I just got pikmin 3 but have to wait a week or two for my Wii U to show up.
