Shadow Of The Eternal's Impressive Use Of Cryengine 3 - A Wii U Turning Point?

If this was running on the WiiU Dyack would outright say so.

Given the amount of trouble large developers has had with WiiU games, I find it unlikely that a bunch of silicon knights veterans could have done it in such a short amount of time.

If they had devkits it would mean that Nintendo have signed off on their Eternal Darkness -lookalike without actually giving them the license. The chances for that are pretty much nil.

That is not to say that this can't run on WiiU, only that that it probably isn't.

They did have Wii U dev kits when this was being developed as ED2 @ Silicon Knights.

Did they mention anything about consoles yet? I haven't had a chance to watch the ign video. If it's coming to the current or next-gen consoles then I'll definitely donate.

EDIT: Never mind. So PC and Wii U....I really hope they bring it to more consoles. Not sure why more donations would change anything. Will they be able to tell if people are donating to get different console versions?

I just dont get the point of overlaying the wii u controls. Really dodgy, I think it is a way to make Wii u fans donate, they are hoping to trick them into donating, if it isn't running on the wii u, that is.

Didn't it take like a few weeks for 2 or 3 people from Vigil to Port a prototype demo of Darksiders 2 to the Wii U? Why is it hard to believe that a larger team (whether incompetent or not) could do the same with a Cryengine title? The engine itself is pretty intuitive.

PC and Wii U

I don't see how it is tricking. Wii U build or not, they have said the game will be coming to the Wii U. The first pieces of footage for a lot of games are PC builds.

Right, it's not like they shared a 2nd party relationship with Nintendo on the GC. And consider the WiiU chips are more advanced versions of the GC hardware, it probably wasn't as foreign to them as it is for most other devs who probably haven't developed on a Nintendo console

No reason to doubt this could look like that on the Wii U. Yet, is a little weird for a crowd sourcing proyect to start it's life on a console. It makes more financial sense to start with PC and go from there. For example, like Slightly Mad Studios is doing with Proyect Cars.

Leaving the usual fanatical system insecurity BS aside, i think it is one of the more interesting proyects runing on Cryengine and it would be great if Dyack manages to get a carrer rivival with the game. The original Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness were at least interesting games.

Suspected as much.

Just above that is also something interesting:

What is your involvement with Nintendo?
We have been in constant communication with Nintendo, and they have been very supportive of our endeavour to bring this game to their platform.

Some people were saying that Nintendo might even try to take the project down, this counters that nicely. Good stuff.

Not impossible, but this is a bit more demanding than Darksiders 2. Framerate was decent and everything. It is much easier to just add WiiU button-art to the pc version, as it would run even if its not completely optimized.

But then again they have apparently had WiiU Devkits for some time, don't know if that is true.

I'll just reiterate that I'm not saying that the WiiU can't do this, I'm just skeptical if Silicon Knights Redux can.

Interesting. Hoping this does well for them since I might get Too Human Too. Would look delicious using CryEngine.

It's out in a couple of weeks.

No, not Sniper Elite v2... that game doesn't run on CryEngine. I'm talking about Sniper Ghost Warrior 2, the sole CryEngine 3 game announced for the Wii U up until this one. It's been cited by Nintendo fans as proof that the Wii U can run CE3 for quite some time, but the Wii U version seems to be vaporware at this point. The website doesn't even have the Wii U logo anymore, and the game was released about 2 months ago on other platforms.
One can only assume what happened there, but I'm going to put my money down on it being performance issues, like with Frostbite.

There's a difference? Man, I had no idea that there were two competing sniper games.

Demo looked really cool, even though a bit "cartoonish" which hinders the atmosphere a bit for me. I'm still very weary to give money to anything involving Dyack, so I'm conflicted...

This is what they had to about V2 which ran on their own engine, not Ghost Warrior 2 which I don't think was ever officialised.

NL: Do you find the Wii U to be more powerful than the 360 and PS3?

JK: In a word yes – it’s very capable, and we’re taking advantage of this to bring greater graphical fidelity to the Wii U version of Sniper Elite V2.

It's a shame its not running ona wii u dev kit. I think it's shady that it's got wii u controller buttons mapped, but then i suppose when we see stuff like watch dogs it's tricking people that the ps3/360/ps4/next xbox versions will look like that, when they wont

Just a shame really

is silicon knights officially dead or did they rename the studio? is dyack the head of the new studio? i lost track of the dyack story.

Looks good.
Also, Dyack has gained a ton of weight. What happened, man?

he was a large man before, then did the low carb diet only to end up big again shortly after.

Precursor is a new studio, the CEO is Paul Caporicci with Dyack acting as the Chief Creative. Dyack has left Silicon Knights, so presumably the company closed doors. But I don't think we've got any information yet to the legal status of Silicon Knights.

It may be running on a PC, but I don't see what's so impossible (or special) about if it were running on Wii U. Dollars to doughnuts Retro's project will look better.

Agreed, actually I really don't like the look of the game, the lighting in particular looks really dated. Looks very prebaked, but it's probably the shaders and art direction too. For example, there is far too much blue in the lighting, where's it coming from?

Nothing about the Wii U's technical prowess, but there are a lot of PS3/Xbox360 games that look far far better. What I'm hoping for is, that the demo was showcasing unity3D, and they havn't ported to CryEngine yet... Or that they ramp up their development team, hire some better artists and art directors, and kick it up. It's a small team, so we can't expect AAA, but a cohesive moody game world with solid lighting should be attainable with the technology they have.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

This happens literally all the time. Especially at trade shows and events, the games are runnin on high end PCs with controller adapters. It's rare you're actually playin on real hardware unless its at launch or just before

Bit gutting really, I suppose it's like that with all software. I just wish they were playing it at a resolution we could expect from the wii u, with effects that the wii u can do
