*Shock and AWE* Sony Says Move is NOT Wii on PS3

I will agree that WSR, specifically swordplay, is a lot of fun and the M+ adds some precision to the experience.

However, for people in this thread to simply state that Move is just an iteration on M+ is laughable. It does not matter what opinions are stated, opinions are not fact. The fact is that Move is a massive jump above any other motion control system on the market. Period. It is more precise than both M+ and Natal and has less lag than both.

As always, tech is only a part of it and it will all come down to the games. Also, people seem to forget that Sony was working on this tech runup for well over 8 years, starts and stops. I remember discussing this with Marks back in 2001 during an advisory group meeting I was hosting.

No point in arguing as there is nothing to argue; fanboyism has no place in the discussion. Again, let's see the games.

if it has less lag ive not seen it...

:lol
Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to Move and I think it looks very promising but maybe you should follow your own damn advice here buddy. This is hilarious. You state opinions aren't facts and you do just that in the next sentence. Like you so wisely suggested, how about we wait for the freaking games, not tech demos, before deciding who's the almighty king of motion controls friend?

I don't know about "massive", but from what we've seen, it's better. The only thing that I'm concerned about possibly moving backwards on is the pointer control, which is by far the best part of the Wii's "motion control". Move's is apparently extrapolated in a roundabout way. I won't be convinced that's good enough until I get to try it for myself.

part of the problem in my opinion is that the move does not have any central "gimmick" like the other motion control technologies we've seen so far. nor does it have a killer app.

wiimote- play games by moving your hands about! check out wii sports!
wii motion+ - sames as above, but now with true 1:1 motion control! check out wii sports resort!
balance board - it can detect your weight and body movement! play some wii fit and lose weight fat boy!
natal - finally it's controller free gaming! check out this lifelike little boy you can interact with!

sixaxis eyetoy move - it's like the wiimote with wiimotion+ but err it's more accurate somehow although that isn't really apparent. it also has eyetoy too i guess. here's a table tennis minigame, a swordfighting minigame and a shooter you can control with a cursor. enjoy!

I agree !

Again, this is one of the key "failings" of Sony.

(1) The name "Playstation Move" downplayed Sony's new natural interface system. It can do MUCH more than motion tracking, but the name suggests that it is merely a Wii+ clone.

(2) It has no central theme. Wii is synonymous with motion sensing today, it looks like Natal will be associated with "Biometric Us/You're the Controller" (recognizing and tracking our bodies with uncanny accuracy). PS Move looks very generic or Wii-like now, and the only thing we have is "It only does everything", which is again very general. It is difficult for users to see where Sony wants to go, or if this is yet another "one-off" effort like SIXAXIS and PSEye.

e.g., Phil Harrison was able to establish user generated content as a direction/central theme with LBP and Home. It got a lot of people focused and excited.

So, some examples for Move's high level direction could be:

e.g. 1, King of user generated content (Another step in Game 3.0) -- exploiting Move's precision, expressiveness and broad input capabilities (camera, audio, keyboard, accurate and expressive hand input). This will mean Sony needs to complement Move with very accessible Internet services for publishing and sharing content.

e.g. 2, Expanding console gaming horizon ("It only does everything") -- by pulling all game genra to consoles (e.g., PC real-time strategy games, precision-based mouse and keyboard applications like easy web browsing, Natal style body tracking, ...). Need real example(s) in each category like say... announcing Warcraft and WebKit on PS3 ?

e.g. 3, Leader in virtual reality era -- pulling in 3DTV, but this may alienate most users who are not keen to upgrade their TV. Also, Natal may be closer to the holodeck / Minority Report idea since no controller is needed.

e.g. 4. Intelligent system: Games need to understand users more. This will require Sony to go beyond AI recognition (it knows whether the gamer is wearing glasses, wears a beard, gender, estimated age, etc.). It needs to use these inferred info for some practical features (e.g., match making players).

Just some random examples. I have no idea where Sony wants to shoot.
