Silent Hill HD Collection: New Screens/Video

or maybe they finally found
the actress that played Heather and are now also including original VA for SH3

on 2nd thought,
no. They definitely need more time for downgrading lol

Maybe they decided to swap James for a bald space marine and have Slipknot record a new theme song for SH2. Kids love that shit.

Looking at the pics, SH3 needs improvement. SH2 looks nice though.

Yes, but it seems to require more fog. The scene in the meat cooler looks nice, but there's too little fog.

As for SH3, I remember seeing footage of the light from Heather's flashlight being visible on her back. Hopefully that gets fixed if it hasn't already.

I think I'll just pick up some component cables and play these on my PS2. I can further simulate the full HD collection experience by doing horrible imitations of the trophy notification ping at random intervals.

Wishful thinking.

Clean textures like the one on that street don't fit SH too well.

Delay? Maybe they found Heather Morris at the last minute and got her to sign on

A 2003 game having better character models than a 2012 game would be just flat out shameful for Konami.

"Would"?

D:

Oh God, please tell me that this is simply a failed attempt at creating character in CC or some fan mod. I refuse to believe that a Bethesda character designer saw this and said: "yeah, it's good; we can put this in the game!".

The truth is, the game still has better character models (and facial animations) than some of nowadays games, even some AAA titles.

But Silent Hill 3 still has better character models than like 90% of games that come out today.

What the shit is that abortion in the second pic? Please tell me it's a borked, ugly mod and not something a developer actually put in a major game (looks like it's Oblivion or Skyrim?)

That character looks nothing like that.

EDIT:

Chars_UrielSeptimVII3.jpg

Still looks like shit, albeit to a lesser degree. Wow, a 9 year old PS2 game actually has better character models than current gen games. Team Silent must've used some sort of black magic to wring that out of the PS2.

The only black magic they used were the ones named "talent" and "effort" ;)

Of course it isn't fair to compare characters from a game that have four (living and fully human) characters to a one that has hundreds (or at least few dozens) characters.

Erm..Not trying to take credit away from Konami in the slightest but Bethesda has always been a generation or two behind when it comes to face technology.

More time to clean up the textures.

They're running a street sweeper through the whole town. Gotta make sure all that unpleasant grime and debris is nowhere to be seen.

Maybe they'll make a nice well lit cement walkway on the path into town so it's not so scary.

I know it's the weekend, but it's interesting to note that neither Best Buy nor Gamestop have changed the release dates. Furthermore, the official Konami Silent Hill site still mentions March 6th as the release date, and no info about the release date change has been given on the Facebook page.

Be happy to take requests for a 3 minute portion of SH3, preferably something from the 1st-hour of gameplay.

Heather - Douglas conversation when they meet up for the first time would be fine.
I think everyone are curious how new voices sound and match facial animation.

yeah the beginning for SH3 would work. Especially Heather talking with her dad on the phone. The voicework, writing, and facial animations were fantastic in the original game. If they botch that I know the rest of the game probably won't work. Not that I'm buying it but I want to see if they at least made an effort.

Just watched the 3min SH2 video.

Were the load times between doors/rooms that long originally? I re-played SH2 not that long ago, and I definitely don't remember watching footprints ever time I opened a door.

I don't know about the PS2 version (I have it, but I've never played it), but in the PC version there were footsteps when opening doors from what I can remember.

Yeah, it seems about the same to me...which is a disappointment. I was really hoping they would reduce or eliminate the loading between doors.

That plus the fact that they're using hard shadows like the PC version make for a pretty bad port. I suspect the fog is also lacking just like the PC port.

Yeah the loading times are horrendous. The PS2 version only takes "long" when entering whole levels, e.g. the entrance to the apartments, but entering rooms or parts of whole levels were relatively quick.

Check the first page. PC version *has* fog.

Urgh. Not only do I think I'll wait and see what full reviews and GAF reactions are like, I'm also going to have to wait and see if there's a downloadable version of these that has better load times.

but the PC has a 'toned down' fog, unlike the console version. I don't think it's a problem anyway.

There were footsteps, but loadings were much shorter; I don't remember ever seeing footsteps making it to the top left corner of the screen.

BTW. while we're talking about PC - PS2 differences, it always bothered me: was the in-game cut-scene with James meeting Eddie in prison cafeteria also that bright in the PS2 version, or was it just fucked up in PC release? In the CGI cut-scene (the "killing a person ain't no big deal" one) the whole scene is dark and James' flashlight is the only source of light; the in-game cut-scene, where the dialouge is continued, is bright, as if all lights in the room were turned on.

The same goes with the scene where James finds Angela lying on the floor. The CGI scene has this dark bluish tint while the in-game cut-scene has normal lighting.

Was the lighting messed up in PC version or did the team just changed their mind when it comes to lighting but didn't feel the need to update CGI scenes?

I don't mean to sound dramatic, but they should just fucking cancel this game. This collection could have been an amazing restoration of two of the best horror games ever made, but instead it has been botched in so many areas that it borders on travesty.

Who is this going to sell to? HD Collections typically target hardcore fans of the series, but we've all made it very clear that we won't support this abomination.

I've tried to keep a level head for a while about this collection, but I've hit my breaking point.

PC version does have fog, I never suggested otherwise.

The fog present, however, is much less dense than it is on PS2. Both the XBOX and PC versions suffer from this. There are fewer fog particles and their animations are less complex. It is most obvious when you exit the cemetery. Swing the camera around and look out into the background on both versions and you'll see the massive difference.

Sadly the majority of the Silent Hill fanbase laps up anything with the Silent Hill name on it. Everything has been garbage post SH3 but that hasn't stopped them from buying every release although I must admit it took 4 awful games before I decided to stop buying SH games.. The fact that anybody can honestly try and defend SH4 is insane. I was appalled as what was by how much fan fiction they try and pass off as canon, Mary being a patient at Brookhaven for example, but their inability to look at the series in any objective fashion completely turned off the fanbase.

Konami is not doing a good job with this, is it really that hard to makes the games HD with no missing effects and textures? I wish the games would just be added to the PS2 classics section on PSN/SEN if it means we get the exact same experience and not botched up.

I would almost bet you anything that they left the loading screen/time in there purely for aesthetic reasons. Can you imagine the outrage that would have occurred if the footsteps were gone because it loaded too fast?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think I'm going to hold off on this collection until it becomes lower priced. The way in which they've approached it, such as with the voices, has been incredibly unappealing.

Really, Typographenia? You really think they on purpose let the loading times be longer than the PS2 version? You know, it is possible to have the loading screen *and* not have it be noticeable/significant loading time. Just look at the PS2 version. The scenario is not like either you *don't have the loading screen* or you have long loading times. There is a golden mean.

That video doesn't look too bad, and the load times don't seem any different than those found on the PS2. I feel that they should have chosen more ambient tracks for the title screen, or just used silence. It just seems too loud and contrasts a bit with the eerie layout of the selection screen.

I'd love to see some of Silent Hill 3. Preferably a mix of cutscene and gameplay similar to that SH2 clip. Hopefully, they fixed the light orb on Heather's back.

Also, has there been any word as to why this got delayed again?

Sorry for the bump but is the game coming out next week?

Also, what OT title do you guys want?
