Skyrim has sold over 20 million copies

All those sales from a broken, buggy game. Congrats

Negative press from this one will surely have an effect on their next game

Naw. I remember the shitty press for Oblivion - its reputation was even worse. For me the bugs in Bethesda games are worth it, considering the open gameplay.

Damn, that's a lot of copies. Amazing accomplishment. I really wish I could get into the Elder Scrolls games though. On paper they're everything I would want from a WRPG but actually playing them (well, Oblivion, I haven't gotten to Skyrim yet) is just, I dunno, a bit hollow.

Good for them, game is great (though the PS3 issues at launch are pretty unforgivable).

Weirdest part is that I know a lot of people who aren't huge gamers who went out of their way to play Skryim.

The game is also utterly fantastic once modded up on PC. I haven't been as lost in a game world since Morrowind.

What negative press?

The only think it gets it's (deserved) wrath from PS3 users, but that won't mean anything for the next Elder Scrolls. If Bethesda don't drop the ball in a epic way it will be another gigantic success. The series has growth in each sequel so far.

The PS3 version was a mess, which is sadly the one I bought

This proves gameplay(sort of?) over story?

Other than the wonky combat system, the game was fun because of its world and atmosphere despite it's transparent story. Oh and PC had tons of mods. :)

This still makes me excited for what else Bethesda has in store.

How do you figure?

I would say that the "story" of the game is the world itself. That's the entire reason it became so popular.

Thats crazy. Even when the news broke of it selling 10m, I was astounded that an rpg could do that well. I mean, I could see Mass Effect with those numbers, because, you know, guns and explosions. But an rpg with a medieval setting, I'd have never imagined that. Too nerdy for mainstream, I would have thought. Well obviously not, because here we are. 20m and counting. I got bored of it after around 30 or 40 hours when it got a bit samey, but up until then I really enjoyed the game and it comes into its own when you start adding mods.

Congratulations to Bethesda. Their games aren't to everyones taste, but to their fans nobody does what they do on quite the same level.

Now where's my Fallout 4 god dammit

Maybe they should spend some of that money to hire enough staff that their next game doesn't release broken as hell. PC version gave me a constant fear of random crashes that was never fixed or addressed by the time I finished.

I'd love to point that given the sheer amount of stuff available in tes game i'd call bs if they manage to EVER release a reasonably bugfree experience from the get go..
Some of you should have played tes2..
I love how gamers gets con either every Now and then on games that have such a large scale of working people involved..
If you ask a plumber to make a tube there's no problem..
Now ask a old time plumber equivalent to build the very first waterduct in the roman empire..

Gamers nowdays given how they are getting more and more aaa release can get forgetful..
The hardly in development to make stuff run reasonably well on ALL platform..
The amount of time required for translation..
The time required to select/create tunes , to register VoiceOver session..
And don't even get me started on the game itself, the scope of a huge game baffles a LOT of people..

So while i hate buggy games, let me be clear that in some huge games i always expect a certain margin of bags, that are ironed out by the devs after successive patching..

So to anyone complaining for the copies sold since the game had bugs aplenty: get real...

On a side note..
Hopefully fallout4 soon (a fall-out made by new vegas team... But not happening...), and the. Another oper tes..
The scrollocaust of tes online made me think that either the game is WAY distant from a shaping release (it sucked.. In everything) or simply tes as an experience shouldn't be MMO-ed

Shitty Vanilla/GOTY with Mods.

Still i hate that they are making systems in game less and less deep.

- no spellcrafting
- no repair
- less armor pieces
- less interesting spells
- linear level design

and so on.

With next TES is fully expect they will do just armor. Without hats, boots or bracers.

With so many skyreturns, Bethesda should have no trouble paying its skyrent.

I'm not getting a good angle on this.

Plus the alchemy system being static too, would like the Oblivion way to return and Morrowind style cities with no loading screens.

I still haven't played it, maybe they'll do a definitive version for next-gen :(
Glitchyness of PS3 version kept me away, I suppose I could pick it up used for cheap sometime, I don't want to give Bethesda any money.

Buy it on another platform.

I should edit this in case it's taken as a slam. I know the PS3 version not up to snuff, I just think this is a game people shouldn't miss. And with all Bethesda games, they're really are comprises and bugs. They have been since Arena. I can't think of any game of this scope that isn't buggy.

Release incomplete bug-ridden game, sell 20 million copies.

And then people wonder why Bethesda doesn't bother with Beta-testing.

Well, the PS3 version basically killed my console so i hope that they release a PS4 (less-deadly) prettier edition

Well deserved. Now if they could only make their next engine without micro stutter and fix their forced "vsync", they would be golden.

>80% of them on Steam sales for 7.49 :)

Still good numbers, sad that they will never have decent animations and combat systems so i will never play them longer than 2-3 hours and run away disgusted.

Wow, those 20 million were just the PS3 sales?

Amazing!

Yeah lets pretend Skyrim wasn't bugged mess on PC for months. Some bugs prevented you from completing main quest.

I thought they announced this a few months back? It's always #1 when its on sale on Steam, so it still sells a lot. Hopefully not all publishers expect 15+ mil units sold of every AAA blockbuster game now.

Hell, it reached pop culture levels with its "arrow to the knee" phrase. I was also wondering if Bethesda's next game would be Elder Scrolls VI due to Skyrim's success, it makes sense financially but I guess they see the need for Fallout 4.

This i can understand..
I HOPE that by the next tes We'll see a revamped NONCASTER combat..
And a revamp to some concepts..
Make summon stats depend both on skill tree and on the summoner magic power..
Give more scaling to spells in general..
Overhaul graphic effects, like make something different..
Root spell--> from nature school thorn from the ground blocks the opponent feet..
Root spell from necromancy --> grip of the departed that slows the. Target spend and attack speed debuff 90% decaying 20% each second still effects is gone. Secondary effect poison dealing damage over time of 0,5% (scaling with spellpower/int to a maximum of 2%) per sec for 10 sec.

Introduce more summon or tie more spell to quest or whatnot..
Hell you should tie some skill to quest chain and make learning spell in a determinate skill attain able only via quest (eg the whole summoning skill).

Lessen the power of blacksmith//enchanting combo or give it to some extent some implication for casters as well.. For example make it so that spell can be enhanced using soul to rank them up+intelligence requirements and certain rank can be just attained if you full buff+post yourself.

Introduce some sort of resource system for mele as well: say orb system, each non slash attack you deal. On unblocked hit you collect an orb, when you have 3 orb your next attack will have added effect (damage? Ignore additional percentuale of armor rating? Etc) with added graphic effects (eg ingored amor make their amor go to duller colour, etc) depending on the attack and on the weapon...

Make the combat more environment sensible..
Say give us a wall of fire that full life enemy will cross and low life enemy won't , so that if you cast them indoor you can use environment+spells to fight with brain.. Give us wall of ice that will require enemies to break down..

Give us an interactive crafting system and possibly some craft related quest line, like introduce a faction of merchant princes that will require you to raise in rank by fetching rare ingredient, enriching yourself, crafting recipes that are bound to o scure questline..
Give us the possibility to handle some sort of merchant profile with your frontmen talking orders and the possibility to send companion to fetch item for crafting and then crafting stuff for customers Who made orders..

Give us more exotic mounts too..
In a world where there are dragons, vampire, were wolf, elves, tentacola giant thing i've, dryads and whatnot, i refuse to believe that there are no SPECIAL mounts and you only have horses..

This and a LOT more can be done in tes and Hopefully sooner or later...

Great for gamers like me who absolutely love Elder Scrolls games. They have no choice but to keep making them :)

Now I'm not even gonna be surprised if they announce a Definitive Edition...

God damn, that's a lot of dough.

Well deserved. I hated it's gameplay once I logged a shit ton of hours in it, but the world beth made was phenomenal. I could just walk endlessly and get lost and enjoy every minute of it.

good, game is excellent

sure, it gets a bit repetitive after 90 hours but hey, when you get there your purchase's been thrice justified

Man, I hope they do. I was bummed when the PS4 news was a mistake due to an error in their database.

I was there in the original OT and created only one character and sunk a ton of time in to the game and continue to do so....and to this day I still haven't beaten Alduin or taken part in the "Civil War" yet.

I guess me and everybody I know are the lucky ones, which is even crazier considering how much time we pored into that game.

Not to diminish anybody's experiences or justify that broken PS3 version, but it obviously wasn't game breaking for a great many people.

Now I'm not even gonna be surprised if they announce a Definitive Edition...

If they ever do make a definitive version it should be free for PS3 owners.

Well deserved.

Now Bethesda, please stop wasting time with Fallout and get to work on TES VI. Just outsource the next mainline Fallout game entirely to Obsidian. They do a better job anyways.

I am not surprised I guess. It's certainly not unexpected.

I hope it doesn't mean further dumbing down the gameplay elements with ESVI, but there was never a chance of that not happening. C'est la vie.

I'd hope for better guilds in the next game too, both Morrowind and Oblivion guilds are superior in my opinion.
Also going from the sheer amount of real estate in the Imperial city to skyrims smaller cities(although justified lore wise) was a tad disappointing.
