Skyrim: New(er) Screenshots and Previews

SNanQ.jpg

Fucking amazing, love the scale. This has me excited!! Definitely looking forward to an RPG where I can really soak in the entire lore and world. Will search high and low for a sweet hideout.

I haven't been following Skyrim closely but have they fixed the melee combat and animation. Oblivion had some of the worst animation in third person and the close quarters combat felt flat and had no impact, the ranged stuff and magic was decent though.
I'll probably pick up the game of the year edition when they fix the game breaking bugs and throw in the DLC for free.

Yeah, the leveling sounds worlds better. And I'm a big fan of perks.

I loved Oblivion, but the skill system annoyed the fuck out of me sometimes.

I just watched the 20 minute demo again from E3, and all I can say is wow! Seriously I could watch the video for hours just for the music. I can't wait for the nights where I just explore the world of Skyrim for hours at a time.

Only if you're a min-maxer. If you know how to just enjoy yourself, the leveling in past ES games was brilliant, as it rewarded you with what you did as your growth. There's nothing wrong with min-maxing, but don't act like the game is forcing you into that play style. That's just your play style :p.

It's not as if the games were super challenging, requiring a perfect build to finish.

Oh wow haha... seriously dude go play a thief in Oblivion picking skills that "make sense" for the class, and then just play naturally. Get back to me when you have to re-roll or turn the difficulty slider way down because your build is fubar.

I'm honestly not excited at all for Skyrim after playing Dark Souls.

It's a weird thing. For someone who never played Demons and loved Oblivion getting all the major DLC putting well over 100 hours into it.....Dark Souls has now changed my perspective. ESV has been nothing but the top dog for me this year, but DS has brought my levels down to earth a bit. Still looking forward to it just not the same level now.

Obviously you don't play very theif like. I always play a thief in elder scrolls. Sneak around enemies and you can level up without even fighting. Steal a bunch of stuff from characters for fun. Pick every lock you can. I have no trouble.

PRAISE AZURA!

Imma get dat star & make all kinds of awesome enchanted shit.

Have no idea how anyone could enjoy Oblivion without that star item. Fuck those Soul shards.

Looks really, really good.

I haven't been following the game too much. I'm hoping that there isn't the Oblivion-esque level scaling in this game?

Sort of the same, but it locks in level ranges as you visit new areas. Come back to your first village as a uber god, and you will still see the same level 5 wolves trampling around.

Yea, my archer build got screwed. Basic rats were destroying me beyond level 20, when the same rats were easy pickings at level 5. Game balance and scaling can be all kinds of fucked.

There are these things called Oblivion gates... you can't really "thief" through them.

There are times you have to fight.

I also don't want to come off as a prick but I don't buy what you're saying at all. #1 there's nothing even worth stealing in Oblivion thanks to loot scaling. Most shit is worthless replicas, or force-scaled crap you pick up off the nearest dead body. Second, everyone can lockpick. Security is not even a skill you have to level to do it.

But not everyone can fight. Thieves are gimped at higher lvl's if you don't exploit the retarded leveling system for 5x multipliers. They become worthless in combat.

This is a known thing... I can't believe you're asserting otherwise.

Always built it so I picked stuff that I would use only in combat. Picking sneak, lockpicking, alchemy & shit screwed you.

Yes, it's me that's trying too hard... not some sensational preview writer that smells a fart and insists it's been crafted by divine hands.
Seems like common sense to me. You walk into a room with a Necromancer and random body parts and you assume he was doing something in there. You might even go as far as to assume he was practicing necromancy. :O

The best one was armorer. You had complete control over when and how you used that and the repair hammers were light enough to keep on you all the time. There were a couple things like that I eventually had to use to keep my re-rolled thief viable.

2:22 PM – I decide to walk back to Falkreath, slaying bandits and other annoying vermin along the way. I encounter a haughty noble couple en route to a wedding party. The man mentions that they are carrying lots of expensive gifts.
2:23 PM – I finish looting their dead bodies.

2:22 PM - Kill bandits

2:23 PM - Become bandit

Must be role-playing a schizophrenic.

Yep, I used armorer as a main skill too. I also had a nutty one that didn't fit my character, it was hand to hand. Just beat up shadowmere if I needed some strength. Cheap as all hell.

Alternately you could simply not level up. Since they got rid of attribute caps you could still increase your skills as much as you wanted getting higher damage, etc.. but enemies would never get any stronger.

The scaling system was so utterly broken it's amazing anyone could say there was nothing wrong with the vanilla game.

I've played Oblivion a lot with quite different characters without giving a thought how i level and didn't have problems. Other than fights lasting forever at higher levels (paralysis and knockbacks (backwards power attack/shield counter?) helped a lot at this point).
It is not as bad as people make it sound. Though once you start thinking about it, you must think about it and you cannot simply enjoy the game alone anymore.
That said, i welcome Skyrim's changes wholeheartedly.

when bandits are running around in daedric and ebony armor, you know you've fucked something up

When you sneak all the way to the back of a perilous cavern, open the chest and find........................

.......a wooden spoon. You know someone fucked something up. Hey awesome, more calipers! OMG PAINTBRUSHES!!!!!!!!!!!

Oblivion was proof that procedural generation and automatic scaling have a long, long way to go. I'll wait on Skyrim, but will probably buy it next summer (for $20 as usual).

Who will hold out playing this until the mod community has polished it 'enhanced' if you will?

I want to dive in however if they screw over the visuals and other aspects for the pc release I'll buy in 6-12 months time when the modders have it 'down packed'.....

The way ES games go for me is I play vanilla, then come back in a year or two and play heavily modded.

I can't believe people are holding off on the game because of potential issues.

I can see waiting until reviews and impressions are out, but people are like "NOT GETTING THIS UNTIL $20 BECAUSE OF POTENTIAL BUGS THAT MAY NOT EVEN EXIST"

The only thing that could probably make me wait on the game would be FO3 levels of pop in (PS3). I have the game paid off already, but I need to see some PS3 footage to confirm they've fixed this since Fallout.

Best route, I get the console version for vanilla then buy the GOTY edition on PC.

I wonder how many people gave it away to Martin without realizing that it's one of the best items in the game. I know I did in my first play though lol.

It's bethesda, they will exist.

I'll be there day 1 though and play through the game un-modded. Then half a year later when modders have added all the RPG stuff back in I'll play it again and probably enjoy it twice as much.

Are you seriously suggesting there wont be bugs??
This is a Bethesda game on a brand new engine I will cut off my left nut if the game doesn't crash at least 5 times in 1 play through and that's not taking into consideration glitches and game breaking bugs.
I've learned my lesson several times over with Bethesda that if you're playing on console it's better to wait for the game of the year edition when the majority of the game ruining bus are fixed.

Oblivion never crashed on me. Ever. And I played it at launch. Fallout 3 never crashed on me. Ever.

Of course there will be bugs. But until impressions are out saying "this game crashes like crazy" I'm saying don't damn the game and resign yourself to not playing this potentially amazing game at launch.

I'm not getting this until I can afford to buy another game after all the other games I've bought (and am going to buy, Uncharted 3, looking at you). I probably wouldn't pick it up day one, regardless, but I've never really been one to sit around waiting for the price to go down a lot on a game I do want to play either.

Does anyone know when actual videos can be released of Skyrim? The game is coming out in less than a month and there is only one good video of the game.

I'm sure you will also agree that Bethesda game of the year editions are a lot better and more stable than when they launch. My history with their games show they have an extremely high chance of being buggy and I'd rather play one of the multiple other games this holiday that will be way more polished.
As an aside did you play on PC consoles?

This company has a little history with jankiness and withholding content.

Same thing happened for Fallout 3. I really wish Bethesda wasn't so tight lipped.

You had to buy the ending to FO3

I understand and agree. And I played on the consoles, but eventually got Oblivion on PC for the mods.

Does anyone know if one-handed hammers exist? I want to make a Thor character.

One thing I love about the TES games is the freedom to craft the character you want. I'm going to make a Lenneth character.
