I don't really remember Geno's role in Mario RPG (It's been many years) but his character design is dorky at best.

He was a powerful character who gained cult status because he is made of wood and people found that dirty enough to giggle at.WastingPenguins said:I don't really remember Geno's role in Mario RPG (It's been many years) but his character design is dorky at best.

Haunted One said:No fighting moves has never stopped HAL from including a character. They'd invent new stuff and a moveset for Olimar, simple as that.
Man, I hope so.Milabrega said:There really should be no doubt that Olimar and/or Pikmin's will make an appearance in Brawl. They made Pokemon Trainer work, I'd argue Olimar would be a similar or even simpler task to create as a playable character.
Meta-Knight said:Captain Olimar can't fight. He relies on Pikmin in his games to fight. How would he fight in Smash exactly? By using pikmin? That would be a mess.
I could see him as an assist character or something, but not as a fighter.
Was about to point out they created a move set for Fox as well. And Ice Climbers. And Zelda.WastingPenguins said:If they can invent a moveset for Captain Falcon, they can invent one for Olimar

WastingPenguins said:If they can invent a moveset for Captain Falcon, they can invent one for Olimar. My main complaint is that the character Olimar is supposed to be about an inch tall in his games, but no one else seems to give a shit about that so whatever. :lol
Dr.Hadji said:Kirby is 8 inches. But I'm sure we all know that by now.
its a quick fix to explain why he is big now. "Thank God for the such-and-such device"SuperAngelo64 said:I didn't think that was canon. I thought that was just made up by NA translators. I could be wrong though.
My problem with Olimar though is that his whole character is based around himself being small. Kirby, even if he was that small.. that's not his defining feature. Olimar is cool because he's this little micro guy. It would be like taking Tom Thumb and making him the size of a normal person, he just wouldn't be special anymore.

Olimar should be accompanied by a bunch of Pikmin, which could stand on each other to make him tall, or swarm his enemies , or carry people off the stage, etc. Instead of being tall, Olimar et al. could be really wide because it's him and a train of Pikmin that take different shapes depending on the move.SuperAngelo64 said:I didn't think that was canon. Sakurai said 2-3 including Snake.PunjabiPlaya said:I've been wondering, how many 3rd party characters do you guys think they'll have in the game?
Honestly, other than Snake, I see there being at MOST only 2-3 others. And one will probably be Sonic.
However, I would honestly start crying it there's a Square character.... who is either Sora or Chrono...... but preferably Sora.
Megaman may be a perfect match, and it would be great if he's in, but who ever thought that Snake would ever be in Smash?Linkzg said:Megaman has to be one of them, it is the most perfect match for Smash compared to other characters. Most Megaman games have been on Nintendo consoles and all the new games are coming on DS.
Staccat0 said:Any character that gets into the game from a thrid party would have to be absolutely ICONIC
I doubt there would be more than 5 maybe just the obvious ones...
Sonic (Mario Vs. Sonic finally!!1!!)
Mega Man (Mega Man Vs. Samus finally!!1!!)
Pac Man (Pac Man Vs. Donkey Kong finally!!1!!)
MAYBE a Castelvania guy like Simon Belmont
No one respect Pac Man's legacy enough! He could summon fruit to eat as a move and turn everyone blue with his Final Smash, before eating them all...
Very few others deserve the nod IMO. It should be a NINTENDO based world... If its only Snake thats too bad.
Jiggy37 said:I think Square-Enix will put in Rena just for me.
...Nah. Actually, she's about as likely as, oh, let's say. In seriousness, I expect Mega Man (classic) and Sonic to be the other two third-party characters. Sonic for sure, Mega Man more iffy because a different third-party might have been approached rather than Capcom. But I certainly expect three total guest stars, so to speak. People like things in threes.Geno
Not sure if that was a joke, but she's a game character. >_>Scribble said:It's a pity Sakurai said no anime characters kana, kana
I don't think that Geno would count as a "third party character", since he is technically a Mario character. So that wouldn't necessarily stop Sonic, Megaman, Crono, Sonic, or Bubsy from being a third party character
Prove it.Firestorm said:Actually, any character that gets into the game from a third party basically needs the copyright holder to be friends with Sakurai and be like "hey man, put my dude in your game"
Thought you meant Rena from an anime =XJiggy37 said:Not sure if that was a joke, but she's a game character. >_>
As for Geno, Square-Enix was credited for his little casino game guest appearance in Mario & Luigi, which is another reason to compare him to another relatively obscure S-E character like Rena.
WastingPenguins said:So... just a thought. If we have a GAF Wi-Fi Brawl Tournament, how are we going to decide on the settings/stages for the matches? Half the community will blow up if you tell them we're not using items, and half will blow up if you tell them we are. What will we do?! :lol

Star Ocean 2, which was on PS1, and Star Ocean Blue Sphere, which was on GBC. And nah, it's kind of a cult game, and her "fanbase" is, like... me. And only me. And this guy, I guess. I thought I was the only one who controlled her in battle straight through to the bonus dungeon.Scribble said:Thought you meant Rena from an anime =X
Which game is Rena from, anyway? Is her fanbase as big as Geno's?
Raging Spaniard said:The game is intended to be played with items I think. I say take the maxim tomato/hearts out, leave the rest in. Some players tactic is skillful use and retrieval of items, and its just as worthy as somebody who doesn't use them, thus making the game more exciting

I don't want to get into an items debate again. Pretty tired already. I honestly don't find items fun even in free for alls unless I'm doing some gimmicky thing like Pokeball Battle or Bunny Hooded Screw Attack thing. I just find them boring. In a competitive setting I feel they have no place at all. Randomly appearing in the match to reward the player who is currently in the dominant position isn't appealing. It was tried and didn't work out. West coast dropped it, adopted the east coast's "no items" rule, and that was that.
Also, I really need to emphasize that everyone needs to try out Bunny Hood + Screw Attack at least once

We've asked our group of arrangement supervisors to listen to an elite selection of Nintendo music and asked them to arrange several of their favorite songs...which means there will be quite a number of songs.
You might be on to something. :lolFirestorm said:Actually, any character that gets into the game from a third party basically needs the copyright holder to be friends with Sakurai and be like "hey man, put my dude in your game"

Raging Spaniard said:Cool OK no debate, but I think we can agree that just because the competitive circle uses a set of rules that caters a way of playing, doesn't mean we necessarily need to abide to that.
I guess there will be a better time and place to discuss this, we also need to swap f codes and all that jazz.
Firestorm said:Oh yeah definitely nobody needs to play by competitive rules. I just expressed my interest in making a competitive tournament like I did for Pokemon. I'm hoping GAFfers would give it a go just like I'd give an FFA tourney a go. For a competitive tournament, I'd use competitive rules =P They won't be perfect since Brawl would be new and we probably wouldn't be able to decide who's broken on what stages or anything, but stages like WarioWare banned will probably be apparent.
Because in all honesty WarioWare stage, as cool a concept as it is, looks like the new Flat Zone =[

Not that I wouldn't want Crono, though. And his music--and no less than ten other themes from CT. I'd say that would make for an auto-classic, but then SSBB's already an auto-classic, so hey...
