Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

Alright, alright, you people converted me on Pokemon Trainer, so I'll go ahead and call Replays a megaton as well. The 10th on the Dojo, to be exact. :D This week is 2 for 3 on great updates.

yeah, the more I think about it, the more this will make break the target more interesting. Especially with the community posting and sending vids back and forth. People will porbably be re-discovering the best character for each stage for years by besting the current records

The inclusion of replays is awesome. One of the best things about Capcom vs SNK 2 on PS2 was the replay inclusion. Every time my circle of friends have a CvS 2 night there is at least one fight that is worth saving for.

The reason I don't consider this a megaton isn't necessarily because it was a "stealth" megaton. Rather, it's because it's not the kind of update that stands on its own. Really, the idea of replays and sharing them is just a logical extension of the Hundredton (the WiFi update) and the screenshots update.

Not to mention trying to get the best times with each character as well.

thinking about it, i really hope to god you can save entire match replays onto an SD card instead of being limited to 3 minutes. it just doesn't make sense why they'd limit it, the only thing preventing longer replays is the amount of space on your wii/sd card right?

It makes sense if he's referring to 3 minutes of replay to be sent via wifi cause of the time it'd take to send a 10 min replay. Like for example you could watch your old replays, and record 3 minutes out of that replay to send.

Are there any fighting games that have this feature?

Heh - I like how one of the WiiFriends is called Nookway. Nintendo needs to get to announcing what's in store for us Animal Crossing fans for the Wii! ^_____^ <3

About the possibility of only having five target stages (which I think is going to be the case), I don't mind as long as there are individual times saved per character--which is how the 100-Man Melee, etc. were handled.
I will say I'm a bit surprised that they're going this route after once having unique target stages, but I guess with all the awesome packed into one disc everywhere else, something or other had to get trimmed down... (Not referring to space, but rather the developers' time.)

It looks like rather than a character having a unique stage, a character will have a unique item appear in that stage, which doesn't appear for others.

According to some other posts in this thread, apparently yes.

Although Jiggy does have a point. I guess if enough people consider it a megaton, then it's a megaton. For the record, though, I don't personally consider Pokemon Trainer a megaton either, although I'm willing to "officially" call it that. ;)

Yeah I'm really hoping it turns out okay.

Yeah. I forget which one though, one of the 3d ones, probably VF. I remember somebody made a conversion engine where you could upload your replays to the site, and it would convert them to video for you. I have no idea how because that seems like magic, but whatever.

This game does everything right it seems. Whenever you think to yourself "it'd be sweet if they include this or that" they actually do.
I know! Every single feature I could have possibly wanted from this game is in! So happy! :D
If they let you edit camera angles in replays.... wow. wowow

For some reason im drawing a blank what other fighters have a replay mode.

sharing replays was a megaton 3 years ago. Now its a standard feature IMO.
It makes me very happy, however, which automatically makes it a megaton as normally I don't really care that much about the updates.

In this case, I would say target practice got a whole lot worse. What's the point of playing the same stage with any character? It makes trying to get a high score pointless except with the fastest character. When target levels were specialized for each character, at first it was like you were trying to solve a puzzle with each target, and then once you figured it out you could tweak it to go faster and faster. Now it's going to be some boring stages that are going to have to accomodate EVERY character in the game.

I was mostly referring to the replays, but yeah thats true too.

I guess they'll probably have separate high scores with each character for one to try and beat, kind of like the home run contest: you didn't have just one high score, or Ganondorf would pretty much clean up and every other character would be pointless. Instead they have individual high scores and also a total score for all your characters' records combined. That's the direction I see them taking this time.

EDIT: beaten numerous times on this point, I'm too slow at posting damnit!

Well it's not really clear in the update, but I'm thinking that every character will still have their own unique 'Target Smash' maps.

Pretty much.
I mean, I suppose something like Four Kinds of Control or My Music wouldn't be a megaton if this was the Super Mario Galaxy Dojo, but the fact that these things were desired features carries them to another level...

Anyway, I'm gone for the night. A good night indeed. :D

You dare doubt the power of Sakurai? :D

I hope you are right, what more can I say. That's what I thought at first too and was like OMG HOLY SHIT but then I came here and read the responses, then went back and looked at the update, and thought "oh, oh yeah".

I hope I'm right too! :lol

how does it work if the match lasts longer than 3 minutes? Say in a 10 min match u want to save the middle 3 minutes, do you do it thru the pause menu during or somehow after?

Are we sure he doesn't mean five SETTINGS for the target stages? Each picture shows a different backdrop. If each Target Stage is just targets and platforms I don't see how that could possibly take up a lot of space if it uses all the same assets and backgrounds, just different placements.

People complaining 3 minutes worth of replay, just be thankful we have Replays!! Stop bitching!

why shouldn't people complain!!! sakurai is obviously being a cheapass or lazy or just stupid by holding us to 3 minutes.

it's not like there are any technical requirements to saving replays...you should be able to save infinitely...all they have to do is use the wii's purple pikmin powered infinite storage drive!!! bastards.

I don't post in this thread much, I am not a Smash Bros fanatic, but to call any developers associated with this game 'lazy' would be flatout incorrect. I am consistently shocked at how much content they're putting into this game, it is mind boggling.

Edit: Upon retrospect it is obvious you are being sarcastic. Anyway, my point remains against anyone who legitimately calls a developer 'lazy' when its not warranted.

Well... it says "five different maps of varying difficulty"...

I was going to be disappointed by the update (targets shmargets), but then Sakurai saved the day in the last paragraph. I like.

Exactly. Then he shows a forest map, a field map, and a desert map. Maybe each backdrop = different difficulty?

Either way I don't really care. This is all still way awesome as it is. It's going to be a BITCH to get all the trophies/awards in this game.

Look at the option down in the middle:

Christ. i cant believe you mouthbreathers are complaining!

A month ago we didnt even have online.

Now we have a feature that no fighter has, and you're not happy! What would possibly satisfy you?!

i wonder if the 3min is based on if you only have the wii's default storage availaible and no other option...hopefully replay time is based on storage availaible and not some weird hard cap..

hopefully we can control the camera during playback.

You can be happy with a product in general and complain about aspects of it. I have been hoping for a replay feature for 2-3 years, and now it shows up with a limitation that makes it little use to me. I would be retarded to not complain. I can't believe I (a "mouthbreather") have to explain that.

I look forward to the next time you feel like taking a shit on us.

People will always find something to complain about.

For example I'm going to complain about how this wasn't a double update paired with a new "Break the Targets" song.

Someone was talking about targets yesterday. I swear they're reading GAF, stuff like that has happened too many times.

Replays! I hope they can feature a video on the smash hub everyday. Should be easy enough to do. The 3 minute limit sucks though. Change it to 10 but cap it at 3 minutes if we want to share it online, if thats the problem.

These are the things I wanted out of Brawl:

Wario
Meta Knight
Raichu (not happening :()
WW Link
Olimar with Pikmin
Tom Nook
Sonic
Tetris Stage
Online
Replays
Orchestrated Music (where it makes sense)
edit: I forgot Tingle

A lot of it has come true so far. Thanks Sakurai.

It's the internet, people like complaining and asking for more. Personally I only ever play timed matches (and 3 minute ones at that), so this is absolutely perfect for me. I wonder if you can also pause the replays and take screenshots in that, a la Halo 3?
