Oh yeah, I forgot all the Nintendo Wii lickers in here.

Wii doesnt even appeal me for a 2nd console. For 150 more dollars I can get a 360 to go along with my PS3...killer combination? You bet

But it is not my problem, as of right now, nothing on the Wii sides looks nice. Mario Galazy? Wow, Mario again? How excited I am! (sarcasm). Super Smash Bros? Thats sounds like a new interesting game (yeah right). I just hope that they are not thinking about making another Mario Party

But hey, that hawaiian guy said it (Reggie is his name?), the wii is ALLLL ABOUT FUUUUUUN!

I don't see the Wii ever becoming anyone's favorite console

Favorite console this gen? Well, why not? It could be. If it gets someone's favorite games this gen, it'd probably be their favorite console. If it does take a lead in Japan and this cause publishers to make lots more games for it than for the PS3, I don't see why it's so implausible that that could lead to someone liking it more than the competing consoles, which would have less support.

Not saying this will happen... obviously. I have no idea how the console war will go this gen. But it's not out of the realm of possibility. If it turns out to be just another Nintendo console, then yeah, no chance it'll be my favorite. I'm just saying it's too soon to make definitive statements.

Nintendo has done a great job. It will be a perfect secondary console.

Now... anyone who thinks this will make a good primary console either only plays Nintendo games or is crazy... this will be a Nintendo-only club console again like the Gamecube except the difference is Nintendo is doing almost everything right this time.

It'll make for a good complementary console.

Yeah, but the main Resident Evil game is coming to PS3/360, so YOU phail :p

CVX likes a certain non-numbered Resident Evil game more than a number of the games in the series. Hint:

You make a good point. But I meant in the context of every system ever released. I can see the core gamer liking Sony's systems more, or the non-gamer being more interested in the DS. Still, I do withdraw my earlier comment: the potential is there. :)

Yeah, that's what I meant by secondary.

For western games, 360/Wii will be awesome.

For japanese games, PS3/wii will be awesome.

For people with money, you should get all 3 consoles!

For nintendo only losers, Wii will be awesome? (same goes for anyone NOT buying the Wii, the loser remark that is).

And for anyone that can't afford a PS3 or 360, buy a PS2.

No interest in Wii until MP3 and Mario Galaxy. I think I would have some fun with Raving Rabbids or maybe Wii Sports, but the entry price for the hardware for 4 players is too high only for those games.

Two words for you. Twilight Princess.

Infact, two words for any hater in this thread.

I dislike the Wii immensely. In fact, I've already decided I'll never buy one. This generation, PS3 and Xbox 360 are where it's at. I have a really nice television and sound system, and I'm sure as hell not going to put up with shameful graphics and lackluster sound. Can you imagine what Wii games will look like three years from now? Holy Jesus, it's not going to be pretty.

Shame on Nintendo for not giving the Wii at least a Radeon 9800 level GPU.

I now own five games for the Wii. By comparison I only have one PS3 game and only had two for 360 up to this point. That said, it still feels like a secondary console to me even though it by far has gotten the most playtime within the first 24 hours of me actually owning a system. The launch is great, but I can still feel the thing's secondary-ness.

Btw, I have a feeling this thread is for people like bepbo who bought the Wii and ended up not liking it. Just a guess though.

:lol

Because I was pretty excited about the system until after I played it? Unlike you and your conspiracy theories, I've loved Nintendo systems and Nintendo franchises my whole life. The GC was AWESOME it just died too early :\

I bought Wii hoping for amazing control that would add to the enjoyment of stale genre, for graphics around the quality of Xbox, and for a GUI with all kinds of neat Wii-specific unique features...well and for Zelda, which I was hoping would be awesome. Only Zelda came through in the end (minus the dithering).

I want to love the console, but so far all it does is keep showing me that it's inferior to last-gen machines in controls, visuals, GUIs, and games. Sorry, but it's sorta disappointing to spend $250 and then realize it doesn't stand up to the $100 consoles of last-gen at this point in any aspect.

And FYI, FFIII was my #1 most awaited DS game as I love the FF franchise...until I played it at E3 and it shattered my dreams. So yeah, I was worried the retail one would be a mess, but at the same time I hoped they had cleaned it up from E3, which they did...but only a partial cleanup.
what conspiracy theories? you been talking bad about the console for awhile now even before you got it. all the bitching about bad IQ, controls sucking (apparently), VC games prices (when that's totally optional), the classic controller being in your opinion the worst controller ever, regreting buying the console when you knew exactly what to expect etc.. etc... give me the impression you didnt want to like it and buy it just as an excuse to bitch at message boards. if that's not the case then Im sorry for misunderstanding you but that's the impression you give when you make post like those.

...

Wii Sports, Zelda, Super Monkey Ball, Red Steel, Madden

I'm playing them all fairly evenly too, with a bit of favor towards Red Steel.

I just don't think we can gauge a console's ultimate, final success by the launch... even when the launch is a good one. Dreamcast had a great launch, but we had no idea some of the stuff that was down the road for it. DS had an atrocious launch.

I guess I just see an inherent "secondaryness" because it's still all in the games for me. If the system gets more of the games I like (which will probably mostly be a byproduct of... a combination of developer creativity and popular market success bringing about more games), I'll like the system more.

I'd never want it to be the only console I own, because there are just going to be so many things/games doable on the PS3/360 that this one can't... but the reverse is true, too. That's why I used the term complementary instead of secondary.

I've been playing lots of Trauma Center. It's an amazing game.

Though, yeah, more Zelda than anything else, natch.

NEW AND EXCITING!

Well, I for one, just don't care about it. I will buy it, for my niece to enjoy, and to play Nintendo games, but as a next-gen console, it didn't get me hyped at all.

Guy above posting MGS pic.... it was revolutionary for it's time, so your point didn't go through.

I can't really stand it.

If you want my completely un-biased opinion, it's sort of mediocre and at first glance the controller is really a cheap parlor trick. I've played both Zelda, Excite Truck and Wii Sports. Zelda was fun at first, but playing the entire game like that would be a feat in and of itself. Excite Truck had so much sensitivity it was like steering an ice cube going 90MPH on a frozen lake. Wii Sports was great until I found out that every game has one or two little issues with the controller, which is sort of lame.

Biased, I actually hate the Wii beyond all recognition. It delayed what was once my most hyped game of all time, is over-priced, underclocked, and on top of it all, the universal love for it has made me the victim of numerous rampaging Nintendo fans.

I did give the Wii ALOT of chances though. I spent the whole day at my friends' playing Wii Sports and I played about a half hour of Zelda. I really wanted it to be good to justify the price, but there's nothing on the Wii nor in the Wii that screams 250 dollars.

In all equality, I actually hate Next-Gen completely. The 360 has too few games I want to warrant a purchase, and both the Wii and PS3 have retarded motion-sensing that I've already gotten my fill of.

I'm not doubting the Wii at all. I think it will sell well...for a couple of years. After that, the PS3 and 360 will probably start distancing themselves. I'm telling you, just think of what PS3 and 360 games will look like a couple of years from now. Developers are gonna milk those systems to the point where games like Gears of War and MGS4 won't even be that impressive anymore. Now think of what Wii titles will look like. At some point, graphics are gonna matter. The more HDTV's that are sold, the more irrelevant the Wii will become. People will start craving HD content.

But...just so I'm not so doom and gloom, I imagine the Wii will easily surpass the GameCube in terms of units sold.

I buy games/systems that seem fun. When I get home and try them I complain about all the things wrong with them IMO and praise all the things I like about them. Go look at all the issues I've brought up concerning faults with the PS3. Once I got the PS3 I found a ton of issues and bitched about them. But OTOH I've praised Resistance and Blu-ray because they both rock. I go both ways and unfortunately with the Wii after a 1/2 week of playing, I haven't found all that much positive to say about the system besides that Zelda is an AAA level game and that Monkey Ball's mini-games are great. When the Wii gives me a good time outside of Zelda I'll sing it praise just like I did with the DS when Kirby and then Ouendan came out, but until then if I find problems...well then I'll bitch about them.

The Wii is how casual gaming should be done. Wii sports is excellent. Nintendogs is lame.

Nintendogs is everything wrong with the DS and games like that prevent me from complimenting the DS even though I love games like Castlevania and Super Mario Bros.

...and since etherled and cvxfreak are in this thread, let's not go further than this and agree to disagree.

And it's everything else than cheap in my opinion. I can't justify spending that much money on such crappy hardware. I think it's way overpriced. No Wii for me.

Hey, I don't like Nintendogs or Brain Age any more than you do. I just accept that they're for a demographic other than me and ignore them entirely, as they should be.

Just want to state again;

Anyone who picks the Wii as their only or primary console must only like Nintendo games.

This is so going to be the same as the Gamecube/N64, just with much better hardware/software decisions by Nintendo. It's still going to be a "you buy it for Nintendo games only" console.
We heard you the first time. We still don't care. :lol

Perhaps. I definitely can see the Wii becoming something I like more than the other systems just by virtue of the other two being similar in many respects that I have to choose one over the other in some cases (like the rumble issue with PS3 or the 360's possible disc limitation).

That said, just like the Wii, anyone who only owns a 360 or only owns a PS3 is kidding themselves if they think they have everything they need.

The controller was pretty well what I expected as was the implementation on the game side. Some real promise here and there and then all kinds of software aided takeover instead of actual 1:1 recognition. I still think the controller design is there to replace all the perephrials associated with unique arcade type experiences like marachas, drumsticks, lightguns, and the like more so than to set a new play standard for the regular types of games most people here play.

The games out for the system right now are simply average to poor. I'm waiting for purpose built games that really use the capabilities of the machine and not tech demo type software. Zelda hardly counts as a Wii game.

In short, I like the idea, the implementation is what I expected it would be, and I want to see more games that push and refine the concept of the machine. Same as the DS, it took a good year before it realized its potential.

I doubt Wii will be my only console, I'll probably pick up the PS3 at some point. But it's not unlikely that the Wii will be my favorite console, not unlike how I preferred my GC to my PS2, even though the PS2 obviously has a much more diverse and well-supported library. It all comes down to preferences.

I don't understand this logic. You're getting the inferior version. Nothing is detracted from playing it on the Wii. It's just improvements all around.

Infact, just running around in Zelda on the Wii is the most relaxed gaming experience ever. I was laid back on my couch running with one hand and waggling the other when in combat. Only thing that feels un-natural or requires an exagerated motion is the spin slash.

that's fine I honestly dont mind that...

More often than not it'll be 360 and Wii, at least for mainstream gamers. GTA and RE are both on the same system.

only MGS and Final Fantasy stand in the 360's way, and over here, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey will compete with Sony. FIGHT!

I've always had the Nintendo console as my primary console, and playstation secondary. I don't see how that is such a crazy thing. I don't just like Nintendo games either, theres lots of stuff I enjoy, but I just don't buy any of the filler stuff that a lot of people do. I buy the top games every few months and if need be, buy something thats real cheap here and there. I can't understand paying $50 every week or month for a game that lasts me a week of enjoyment like a lot of people do.

Wii experiences so far:

Wii Sports - games are fun for a few minutes but get old really quickly and dont have much depth. I can see where some games would be really fun if made into complete simulations like on other consoles but this just doesnt really do it for me alone.

Madden - I dont know wtf this game is. Defense is -impossible- to play and the controls are vastly more complex than on traditional controllers which totally defeats the purpose of Wii. Not to mention, the graphics make my eyes want to bleed compared with even regular Xbox.

Red Steel - This game is awful. Its impossibly sensitive with the wiimote and having to shake the controllers to reload or pick up items just throws me off entirely. The graphics are awful too.

Zelda - I havent played it but i've watched my friend. It looks fun if youre into Zelda but im just not.

Interface - The Miis are alright but theyre just too cute to be really cool. I hate to say it but the whole system just has too much of a family friendly feel to it and not enough cool factor.

So far i dont really like the Wii. It just doesnt feel nextgen to me, and at $250 + $60 for additional controllers im just not convinced.

edit for constructive criticism: I would probably buy one if controllers were like $30 and the system was $150 or $200. Its about on the same scale as having Guitar Hero for PS2 at this point, but much more expensive. I wouldnt use it for anything other than a party system to have girls play when they come over.
