So the PlayStation Vita.....

A great tragedy. This system is going to be relegated to being a PS4 screen. Maybe TGS is where they'll put some oomph under the Vita... doubt it.

And when they were introducing Assassin's Creed, didn't they accidentally say "Vita" somewhere in the conversation, or was I just putting words into my own head in desperation.

Sorry to say, but they simply don't care about it. Last year everyone was saying that E3 will show off great Vita games and...they didn't. Really glad I returned mine when I did.

Playing UMVC3 on the go was pretty nice though. :p

It's pretty obvious even Sony doesn't care about the Vita anymore. There was some pre-E3 hype about some great games being announced, they used all the right PR language in the conference itself, then we saw the games and all understood that the Vita has no future.

I wonder if its worth picking up just for the streaming capabilities for the PS4. Even more so if a price-drop comes in this year.

I don't own a vita and will probably pick up a PS4, so the streaming stuff appeals to me. What do you guys think?

In the UK, a preowned Vita right now plus a new PS4 at launch will cost like 5% more than an Xbox One. Maybe once everyone picks one up as an accessory, some real games will come out...

The showing of the Vita was quite appalling considering the build up. Nothing at all came.

Besides, their forecast speaks volumes to me. I suppose I'll jump in once there's more exclusive niche support like Falcom.

You'd imagine there will be more Vita games on show from 3rd parties. Atlus, Namco, Capcom etc. I'm sure the picture won't be so bleak once E3 has finished. But from the Sony conference, it did just feel like they'd repositioned the handheld as a PS4 accessory, rather than its own platform.

They didn't even give its use as a PS4 accessory more than a cursory mention, which surprised me. Figured it'd at least be part of an onstage demo or two.

the library has enough only titles eventually to get me in, as long as it can deliver a few games from japan... i'll be happy. but, honestly, in the west its dead. its entire focus seems to be a PS4 extension.

There's a disturbing lack of software investment by Sony. It feels like the indies are the only ones supporting the thing and making it an interesting prospect at this point.

I actually looked into how cheap I could get a Vita after this press conference (like on Craigslist of something).

If I can get one for cheap (like under $200 cheap) I'd love to have one since there are some games I'd love to play on it, but the lack of support they showed was pretty sad.
At this point I almost want it the same way I want a Virtual Boy; it's just kind of a novelty more than anything (except the Vita actually has good games that don't give you a headache!).

I'm all over The PS4 but buy a vita for remote play. No chance!! If that's the best Sony has to offer then just pull it now.

I have pre-ordered a ps4 but won't be buying a Vita just so I can stream games.

The Vita is dead. Sony doesn't care so why would 3rd parties.

Sorry but gotta laugh @ the poor saps who expect something to happen at every new games conference.

How many chances do you wanna give Sony?

It's even dead in Japan, sure it's selling better than last year but 13k/w is still bad...

Gamescom it is then

Sony is just trying to recoup losses at this point. in order to do that they need to not dump more money into it, hence the lack of in house games. Also the longer they keep it alive the more it dampens the blow when it inevitably gets discontinued. doom and gloom etc

For the price of Vita, better go for WiiU, the real streaming experience.

Definitely disappointed for the lack of "megaton" announcements regarding Vita. Who knows, TGS maybe? Hahaha..

I still love mine, still play it regularly. Dead Nation is a saving grace. Can't wait to have that mobile.

The lack of Vita news was pretty disheartening. That Shahid guy should seriously shut the hell up. He's not helping the situation by overhyping underwhelming announcements.

It's OT but why do I keep seeing people saying RIP in peace. You know The IP means that right?
It's a running gag on GAF.

I thought they said 85 new games for it. I'll give it one more holiday season, if it doesn't pick up sales and dev support then it will probably turn into a zombie system. Sony won't officially kill it off and there will be a continuing trickle of support for it, but for all other purposes it will be dead.

Guys, watch, they're going to announce Final Fantasy Type O for the Vita and then everyone's going to regret getting rid of theirs.

I am actually rather angry right now towards Shahid and his claim of awesome games coming for Vita.

And towards myself for falling into his sales-speak.

Goddamn I am so disappointed right now as a Vita owner... ugh.

It'll be a healthy environment for small indies.
It'll have RemotePlay.
It'll have Gaikai.
It'll have 3 or 4 1st Party titles a year.
It'll have some of the usuall annual franchises like FIFA.

But I still can't believe that that Sahid guy teased us that much and then nothing...
It would've been perfectly fine if there would've been two big exclusive Vita titles. Maybe one by BEND and one by a 3rd party.
But there was literally nothing except for more ports and remakes.

Yeah, I was hopeful that there'd at least be a price drop, for the handheld and memory cards. There probably will be eventually, but I have no idea what Sony is waiting for exactly.

Oh boy.... This is a sad day for vita owners.

Sony is giving monopoly of the handheld market right back to Nintendo.

It's a bit shocking.
