So, I moved across the country last May. During my last day in my previous home, I sold two vehicles for cash to my neighbor, who was a friend. I immediately hopped in my U-Haul, and started the journey of hauling all of my family's belongings across the country. As one would imagine, I still get a lot of spam calls from numbers that are local to my previous residence. I ignore 99% of these calls.
I received such a call yesterday morning and let it go to voicemail, not thinking much of it. Later that evening, I decided to clean out my voicemail inbox and noticed the text transcript said my last name and had the phrase "accident on June 11th 2025" in it. I decided to listen, and it was a message from an auto insurance agent wanting to speak with me regarding an accident I was supposedly involved in.
I actually had a few voicemails from this number, all saying something similar. I immediately realized that I didn't pull my plates off of my previous vehicles, and my previous neighbor obviously must have gotten into an accident, while my old tags were still being displayed. So I contacted the previous neighbor, and they graciously stated I could give the agent their number, and they would immediately set the record straight. The problem was that they swore up and down they had not been in any accident with the vehicles. I got some things in order and call the agent back.
The agent reaffirmed that their records indicated that I was involved in an accident on June 11th, 2025 (when I was 2,000 miles away). This is odd. She then informed me that the accident happened a state over from my previous address, while also driving a make and model of a vehicle I have never owned nor driven. There was obviously some mistake. I informed her of this, and asked how my name and information was obtained, and that's when the bombshell dropped. The other party involved stated that I exchanged information with them, and I provided MY NAME and MY PHONE NUMBER. Some mother fucker I know fraudulently gave my information after a wreck.
She wouldn't provide much information beyond that, so I have no idea who it was. I'm still not clear why they aren't trying to reach the driver who is attached to the license plate number, but here we are.
I do have an idea though. I think of my piece of shit, con artist, scheming motherfucking (my mother I guess) biological father (who I share a name with), and I have to imagine it's him. Only thing is, he has never owned the make and model of the car that the offender drove that day. I'm going to figure this shit out, if it's the last thing I do in this life.
