Sometimes 100%-ing a game is FUCKING BULLSHIT

More often than just 'sometimes.'

Saints Row IV was really good for this, but I never fully 100%ed the game. Same with Saints Row: The Third. All because of the asinine/too time intensive challenges.

I almost never 100% games.

Yeah a disgusting tactic also used by Ubisoft for their Assassin's Creed games.

I'm mainly referring to all the common chests and other collectibles they invent for each game.

It's just a collect-athon used to pad game hours. They are quite meaningless (small amounts of XP or resources), but they put a % in it's own category for all the OCD people that feel the need to complete it.

One of the more egregious collectibles in AC Syndicate cannot be revealed simply by purchasing a map from a shop vendor. You must locate them randomly, tho they do emit a sound. Collection of the full set allows you the truly special set of armor.

But they do allow you to buy their locations (via Helix credits) using real-life money! (oh joy!)

Agree 100% with the TC and while I thought the game was good, it was still one of my two disappointments this year. And that "real" ending...screw the Riddler trophies. YouTube baby!!

I felt the same about Mad Max, by the time I finished the game I was at 85% so I thought "fuck it, may as well go for the plat"

I only had the death race and non repeatable challenges trophies to get, but I took one look at the non repeatable challenges and thought "fuck that"

There's is no way I'm going to spend hours driving around doing stupid shit just to fill an arbitrary check list, I mean "Your clean up crew picks up 2000 scrap"? Get the fuck out of here, I was on 600 having played 40 odd hours.

OP we have youtube now.

We live in a magical time where you can play the game once and enjoy it, and then see all the drastic
completely minor
changes a story has with it's branching paths if you don't want to play it again.

Or you can just watch it on youtube if you don't want to 100% a game, because nobody actually ever wants to 100% a game for some secret ending.

OP is definitely overreacting. If you care about trophies, it's not a hard platinum, especially if you use a guide. If you don't care about trophies, just watch the ending on YT.

If you wanna see "FUCKING BULLSHIT" plats, look at 1000+ hour games like Mortal Kombat. Or near-impossible plats like Elder Scrolls Online. Or impossible plats that've had their servers shut down, rendering the online trophies unachievable.

Yup I realized this when trying to activate the
Knightfall protocol
. I just said fuck it and hit up YouTube.

Lol I was thinking about coming in here and posting I hate that too with my example if arkham knight. Imagine my pleasant surprise that's what the first post was talking about. Ak is one of the worst offenders of this. When I finished the story I just walked away.

Yeah 100% on open world games is always an awful experience guaranteed. I did for AA and Infamous - never again.

I remember losing my shit at Arkham Knight... but only because after finishing all the riddles and trophies as usual, there's weird bomb guys and destructibles to do as well. It just seemed senseless and to piss in your face.

Riddler still best handled in Arkham Asylum.

I have no time for it anymore. usually in AC games I will go 100% because it's easy, but playing Syndicate, I found myself screwing up mission objectives (needed for 100) and just moving on.

I tried to plat AC2 but I hate grinding shit like feathers so I lived and moved on.

Play games for what you want out of them and don't bother with tedious and arbitrary shit. Ignoring achievements/trophies is the first step on the path to a better gaming experience. For everything else there's youtube.

I would change the title of this thread to "100%-ing a game is always fucking bullshit", because I never think completing a game fully just to meet some number is a good decision. Collect/do the things you find fun, and move on to something else. The whole "100%" obsession seems destructive to my enjoyment of the games I play, as evidenced by this thread.

I just really hate when a long game makes you play it over and over and over and over again to get specific trophies/achievements. Especially when difficulty trophies aren't stacked. Fucking Kingdom Hearts.

I'm embarassed to admit I got halfway through the Riddler trophies before I realized what a waste of time it all was.

Plus even more tank battles GTFO

I have never and will never attempt to 100% a game. It is never worth it. Life is too short to waste hours and hours shooting pigeons. Have fun with a game and then move on to the next one.

I don't have a single Platinum, but I have the easy 100% games like Hamster's collection. I've had like 3 or 4 PS3's and even a launch PS3. I just never wanted to do everything. AC2 I came close and I did a lot in Arkham Asylum. I just don't like that style of progression at times. I see some trophies and it's super easy at first. Later down the road it comes down to wanting to put more time into the game than you kinda want to.

I went back at MW2's trophies and before 2010 and we had simple trophies at times with steady progression. Sometimes I get the main trophies done and nothing else looks interesting or they're all hidden. I'm not the kind of person to buy smaller games for trophies or achievements either.

I only got 100% riddler trophies and case files because they added audio and easter eggs to everything. The later Batman games didn't do any of that. No super cool easter egg and the easter eggs they do have are just simple glances.

I'm trying to get there, but if you aren't feeling the trophies or the 100% mark then it'll just burn you out.

I have finished quite a few games and I'd just sell them back to GameStop the next day. This gen I'll go back to a few, but even in fighting games I'm not hitting that 100% mark at all. I see people on my list do everything and I just want a new game to play or a new adventure. I'm happy with just the base game period.

Anyone who has played Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has probably ran into this roadblock to 100%. The rarest pokemon of them all.

Also honorable mention at least for me: Saints Row 1: 100% completion. Almost made me throw a controller.

I instantly thought of Arkham Knight as I'm currently getting all the riddles. It is making me hate that game, yet I persist. I remember when 60 or so riddles in Arkham Asylum was a lot. I'd kill for 60 riddles now.

I feel that way about Final Fantasy X.

Words cannot describe how much I hate the endgame activities.

Maxing out the expert grid for each character is killing me right now.

I don't think I wanna continue doing that, otherwise I'll just kill myself. I mean, how could a game so damn brilliant have such a terrible Trophy requirement...

Which is unfortunate because I really wanted a plat for FFX HD.

Nailed it so perfect I'm gonna quote it just to hammer this home.
Fucking always bullshit.

This isn't true, unless you don't play nintendo games. Finding the final areas/100% completion of Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Metroid Prime 1, Smash Bros games, and some of the 3d Zeldas were actually fun and not BS. I could name more nintendo games, especially Kirby but you get the point.

I thought it would be cool to 100% Mad Max.......Fuck that game. I mean I liked the game itself but good fucking lord there is so much to do and soooo much shit to collect

Just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider 100% just now and I have to say that I really enjoyed getting all of the collectables in the game. Each one had a backstory with some history in the world which made it seem worth it.

Games like the Arkham series and even Assassins Creed are just a chore that I can't be bothered with. I also really enjoyed all the collectables on Watch Dogs, so much so that I did it on both Xbone and PS4.

That's why you don't do it unless you're enjoying yourself.

I still have no idea why I went for that Final Fantasy XIII platinum. I must have been super bored at the time.

I don't bother with full completion unless the process of doing it is meaningful. I can't remember the last time I got 100% in an RPG or open world game. The post game content in those genres is slightly above filler in quality (at best) so I think of it as a neat extra for those who are truly engrossed in the world and don't feel ready to leave it just yet.

Mario games are pretty fun to 100 percent.

You usually get new and awesome levels for doing so.

Except for Sunshine. Freaking Blue Coins.

100%ing a game has never seemed like fun to me. I don't think I've ever done it.

I did catch all the animals in MGSV because I wanted to see them all at the nature platform.
Most of them don't show up on the nature platform ;(

Lol I knew that OP would be talking about AK, before I even clicked on the thread. It is a terrible end game grind. I was gonna do it, then I realized what i needed to do and put the controller down. Thank god for Youtube videos..

To get all achievements in Pillars of eternity you had to have Kickstarted the game. THAT one is all kinds of Bullshit.

The most recent game to annoy me on this level was Rise of the Tomb Raider. It's a very good game, but the in-game map is not multi-tiered so trying to find that one missing document that may or may not be in a cave/underground is enraging.

I have over 100 hours on my current playthrough and I'm nowhere near platinum. In comparison, I could hypothetically platinum FFXII IZJS in like 60-80 hours without feeling burned out.

There is a special circle in Hell for Final Fantasy X's endgame.

I think you kinda have to strike a balance. For instance, Mario is my favorite series and I've 100%'d pretty much all of them numerous times, but I will never, ever bother with Sunshine, and I even liked the game. The blue coins are just garbage, and even though I certainly could do it, the act of getting them isn't fun or rewarding, and neither is the end goal (just changing the picture at the end of the game? Yikes). But I did beat all the levels with all five characters in 3D World to get those last stamps because I enjoyed the game so much I didn't want it to end. I guess what I'm saying is, as long as a part of you is still enjoying the game, even if it's some sad masochistic part of you, it's not time completely wasted.

I do think it's funny that so many people are bringing up the FFXHD trophy since that was the first game I actually got a plat in. Parts of it were brutal for sure, but it was mostly just an insane amount of grinding at the end, and I had a couple weeks of free time, so I just plowed through it on Vita while doing other things. Also while drinking. Lots and lots of drinking.

The true ending isn't worth the time to be honest.

yea, watch that shit on youtube. don't collect that shit if you expect to be "well compensated"

i'd rate arkham knight 7/10 at best (did everything except the trophies), but if i'd venture into that crap i'd probably lower it by one point

My friends told me about this website where people can upload video called youtube and that's apparently a thing though.

You should enjoy playing video games, when you stop enjoying a video game and don't see yourself enjoying it again soon, then stop playing it, you're gonna burn yourself out on games because of stupid bullshit.

never did it. even the easy ones seem like an insurmountable task to me. been playing the crap out of bloodborne but what the hell.....I've never platinumed any games. you folks that do it for fun amaze me.

Platinum'd it without a guide, wasn't that hard. Some of the riddle scans are a bitch, but everything's location becomes marked on the map. It shouldn't take too long to pinpoint them.

I agree. I did everything else except the Riddler challenges, including all the DLC stories then watched the extended ending on YouTube and uninstalled the game. There was no way I was gonna do all that extra stupid stuff

Mario games are fun to 100% now since there's a decent reward behind it. Has been the case since Galaxy 2.

Not many other games give you a satisfying reward for 100%, or offer an incentive to go for it other than a Trophy/Achievement, which is like...not worth it.
