Sonic Adventure confirmed for the Xbox Live Arcade

So, its a port of a port? Really?

I've heard SA for the Dreamcast wasn't even completed in order to be available at launch.
I think that was the Japanese SA. It had way more bugs and glitches than the NA release. I think JP got the fixed International version later on, which was really just the NA version.

Things to remember from the last time we talked about the game, no anti-analysing of any kind, sub 60fps drops around the place, port of the PC version which is missing a few visual fancy effects, it's not even in HD! lolzzzzz

Maybe, just maybe they improved the game from the crappy partnernet test, but who knows this is sega...

If sega could lock it to 60 and make it widescreen id be happy enough :(

Wow. Very disappointing.

Liked the game when it came out, but no enhancements after eleven years?

Sega needs to take some notes from Capcom or something. Sigh.

So will a.) the bugs be fixed, b.) the controls actually work okay, c.) the camera not be shit, and d.) the cutscenes be removed?

Or is all that part of the charm of the original Sonic Adventure that we couldn't dare touch?

Sega seems to be porting everything for a quick buck these days...
That's because while Sega isn't especially known for making good games now, their legacy titles are still highly sought after - you can play the first Sonic on at least a dozen different platforms. Their go-to plan whenever they need extra revenue is cheap ports, since they don't require any real investment or creativity.

Yet even their Genesis library has been stretched pretty thin, so it's natural that they'd move onto Dreamcast games next. Though I'd prefer well thought out and designed sequels.

Off hand i can think of..

Genesis
Gameboy advance
Xbox 360
Ps3
Wii
Psp
DS
cell phones
gamecube
ps2
xbox

heh

Sega's idea of porting more Dreamcast games to XBLA was to get Backbone(probably) to build a one size fits all emulator for Sega PC games.

In a world where we have fantastic ports of Ikaruga, Virtual On and Rez (HD) already on XBLA it's a real shame if Sega take us down a path that just re-sells me things I already bought, exactly as I remember them.

A little effort can go a long way Sega.

In addition to Saturn like Nincompoop said, you forgot PC (and legally too, both in Sonic Mega Collection+ and PlaySega), iPod and iPod Touch.

Might have to buy this day 1, never got a chance to play the dreamcast version or gamecube one, shitty or not I can finally play it :lol

I thought this was already announced (and renamed to Sonic The Hedgehog 4)...
Well, everyone with a brain knows that Sonic Adventure is really Sonic 4, but that's another discussion for another time and another place!

What do you mean? The Krome guys said Dreamcast games are coming to Game Room during X10.

I don't think they said that Dreamcast games were coming, but rather that their project started as a way to easily emulate Dreamcast games, and eventually it turned into what it is now.

Though, Game Room would be the best method for shitty ports like this to be released, considering Microsoft forces everything to conform to a set price.

Still that shitty no wide screen nothing upped in terms of resolution messy Backbone looking port? Yeah, screw that.

Its a port of the PC version which can quite easily have widecsreen and a better draw distance hacked in (ffs, I figured out how to manage the latter with a couple of minutes fiddling in config files), this port is missing both (and a HD rendering resolution and msaa as well it would seem). Avoid like the plague, the PC version which this is based off of will run at 60fps even on Intel integrated graphics and can be had for a couple of quid, get that if you must.

That would be Sonic 2006, but yeah sounds like it would work for Sonic Adventure too.

Will they ever take some time to make their games or are they going to rush them forever?

They seem to have the worst attention to detail I've ever seen. Stuff like this, the frame rate problems/NO ONLINE FOR PC with the new racing game, Sonic 2006, the Sega Saturn in general...

Wait, wait, wait... there's no online mode in Sonic and Sega All Star Racing for the PC?

That has to be a fucking joke. No one can be that stupid. I refuse to believe that.

Apparently they wanted there to be online multiplayer for the PC version but Sega refused to give the developers budget for it.

Can I export my Chao to a little garden on... Uh... Zune?

It's based on the PC version judging by the water in the leaked shots, the GC version has added water effects, the PC version's were unchanged seemingly from the DC version.

The PC Chao Garden replaced the transporter with merely a naming and releasing machine (saw it in a video on YouTube), wow.

Woooah, do you have a link for this? Checked google and "Games room XBLA Dreamcast" apparently isn't specific enough, but thats pretty awesome if true :D

Heard it myself in this Giant Bomb interview from X10. Again though, mostly stated that the idea was for a Dreamcast emulator at first, not that there's actually going to be any Dreamcast games launching in Game Room.

Because why do it right, when you can do it cheap and fast?
And if you complain, they claim it as a gift to gamers that you were "lucky" to get in the first place.

I've been all for them porting some of their Sega PC titles to Live and PSN, but that doesn't mean they should put out efforts this lazy and be rewarded for it.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Wait, didn't the debug PS3/PSN have this up also?

So, uh, aside from complaints about sloppy porting, is Sonic Adventure DX actually worth purchasing? I only remember disappointingly low reviews for the Gamecube version, but I never got to play Sonic Adventure 1 and wouldn't mind giving it a try if it was cheap enough.

I think there was a disc recall/exchange just two weeks or so after release, actually, even before the International Edition. I played that first version once, some very weird things happened in it. Quitting out of the pinball games in an unexpected way, for example, would repaint the Casinopolis lobby in the pinball game's textures.

SADX is better in some ways, but its worse in others. They did some weird things to some of the textures, for one thing. Even if you wanted to play SADX, I'd recommend picking up the PC version over getting this, unless the extra content pack turns out to be something special, and not just the extra modes and content hacked out for lazy DLC.

The sad thing is that sega will probably get enough impulse sales in the first few days to cover the cheap porting cost, no way they can be spending much on this.

I personally would have preferred the non DX dreamcast version ported over, sonic might be a little lower poly and some textures not as sharp but it looks a ton better then sonic the rubber looking figure.

The thing about Sonic Adventure DX is that it adds new features and better graphics, but forgets to fix any of the dumb problems the original had, and were made much more noticeable with the upgrade of everything else.

At this point there's no reason to bother with it unless you have some nostalgia built up for it. The game has aged very badly, and the Sonic levels are the only ones really worth playing, and of course they don't make up a majority of the game.

I'd say maybe try the trial version when it finally comes out, but if it costs any more than 800 space bucks, don't bother.

Actually, considering the nature of the port, just skip it.
